Funny how you've mentioned the Leica suggestion of having a "digital" film winder, 36 shots, and have to offload the 'roll' before taking more shots. I recently bought a Flashback camera that was advertised as "digital re-disposable camera" ...and i only have 27 shots at a time and have to offload it to my phone before loading up a new 'film'. A gimmick for sure but it's a nice concept. Maybe Leica will adopt that someday.

Love the shameless Northrup shout out! 🤭 I don't know what Leica is trying to achieve with that abomination. You either embrace digital photography or you just go back to film... let's not try to create a compromise. I owned a Q (typ 116) w/a fixed f1.7 28mm lens and honestly, I didn't miss the extra 4mm... It did take some amazing photos, however, it's a dated camera and w/out an EVF (which I have grown accustomed to) so I had to trade it off. I do shoot with a Sony a7c II w/a 28-60mm (VA) teeny tiny lens for travel and I have been very happy with it, but I recently picked up the G f4 12-24mm and I was AMAZED with the landscape shots I got with it shooting at 12mm.

The original Leica MD was produced in 1966-64 and the MDa in 1966-76. Both had no Rangefinder and were used mainly as a Repro-Cameras of for special scientific applications (on microscopes for instance). Later on it was replaced by SLR's. In our Biochemistry-Lab we had a Leica R4 with a Macro-Elmarit 2.8/60mm for Reprofotos. Being a Leica-shooter, the idea behind the digital MD was never very clear for me.

Can’t wait for the 28-70 review! Honestly, I wonder how it stacks up against the EF 24-70s with focus speed and image quality! I’d bet it’s better than we think. If it had a USM, I would switch from the mark 1 in a heartbeat.

20 years ago Epson released the R-D1 - a digital rangefinder camera you had to manually wind after every shot. Ironically it's even using Leica's M-mount, as it's based on the Voigtänder Bess-R camera body. Nobody bought it, as digital cameras back then were mainly appreciated for streamlining the process of taking a photo, which sadly makes this camera extremely rare and expensive nowadays. And yet again, I'm asking myself why 20 years later after being the unbeaten royals of high end analog-like digital cameras Leica manages to miss the mark on going all the way. the previous M10-D even had a functionless winder-like thumb grip on it, I mean wtf? ...not that I could afford any Leica any time soon, but I wish there was one I could strive for.

I still haven't gone mirrorless, probably won't for a long time. But if I do I'll probably use all my current EF glass and something just like that RF 28-70mm f/2.8 IS STM lens as probably my one and only native lens. It just hits in such a neat spot. Also, not sure if this was too late for this fix, but Pentax is coming out with the new K1 Mark III DSLR for us dinosaurs who prefer them.

M11-D is a great camera, just like the M11-P. amazing sensor, tri resolution and just stops you from checking your pics after every shot and gives you a super clean design
