“How did they get above where they fell,” it was cut from the anime, and it was still subtle in the manga, but the trash compactor death room swung around like it was an elevator, so it must have moved up while it was crushing them.

It sort of reminds me of weird pupils in some animals, like the beaded slit pupils of geckos or the oblong pupils of goats and horses. Knowing how much attention to detail this series has for the anatomy and biology of monsters, I wouldn't be surprised if this had some actual cool reasoning behind it. Honestly, I think that's on of the whole foundations for the character writing of the characters. If you're familar with the FLCL Punnet square for characters to be Mature adults, childish adults, mature kids, childish kids, I think dunmeshi has the same thing going on but with weirdness. Laois is a weird seeming weirdo, Marcille is a normal seeming weirdo, Senshi is a weird seeming normal, and Chilchuck is a Normal Normal, and i think you can extend this to the full cast to some extant. Chilchuck fills the vital role of just being a guy. He has his quirks, but he's basically exactly what you'd expect of, like, a middle aged guy who's a career adventurer.
@gristen9 ай бұрын
@@Ezekiel_Alliumi really love when characters are just some guy lol. theres such an over abundance of big strong flashy heroic characters in the fantasy/adventure genre, that its such a breath of fresh air to me when a main role is filled by a middle-aged jaded average normal man who could be knocked down by a strong gust of wind 😂

Farlin, Marcille, Senshi, Thistle, Kabru, a huge amount of the caste have incredibly fantasy backstories, insecurities and traumas, and Chilchuck still feels right at home and meaningful alongside them as like, a guy, and his role as a guy is even vital to the dynamic. @ScrubbinOpti9 ай бұрын
I think my favorite part of this episode was all the little details of the eyes. The simple transition of Chilchuck's eyes using a pillar to hide their movement makes it feel like he's taking a lot more time to run through his thoughts. Then Laios has his eyes darting around at the end of the episode, trying to piece together what everyone has said to him and find the correct response. Also unrelated, but I love seeing Leed slowly move from annoyance to genuine interest in Chilchuck's story the more he explains it. It's just really adorable.
@TheLeafcuter8 ай бұрын
So, I haven't read the manga or watched the anime in japanese, but that "three people are in danger here" line from Chilchuck came across to me as him discounting himself there - essentially saying that right now his friends' lives are so important to him that his usual self-perserving attitude dissappeared. He's so frantic and scared of the thought that they could die, and then not even be revived because of how deep in the dungeon they are.

Noticing that Wargs are with the orcs, and then also in the stomach of the red dragon- implying the dogs attacked/barked and got the attention of the orcs to evacuate. Blown away by the eye thing with Falin, as well as her grasping her neck! Insane detail. Kui put a lot of attention on Falin's eyes being open and closed, so it's interesting to me that there's symbolism with them being half open too. Aughhghghh this manga/show is so good. I was honestly a bit disappointed that the transformation body horror sequence was in silhouette, esp that more detail would really add to the horror, but watching your thoughts on it I realize how much it actually works really well. idk if the elf being a magician as opposed to a mage is an important distinction character wise, but on the off chance that it is, I would have prefered the english dub call them the Mad Magician. The alliteration is sweet, and we all know that the word mad is supposed to mean insanity in this context, so it works just as well as lunatic magician. Though maybe they went with mad mage for syllable count, either way, lunatic magician feels like a nothing burger of a name in english and its a mouthful to boot, so if i had to pick i definitely prefer mad mage.

Do we know for sure that the mage is a “he”? I’m asking because since Japanese doesn’t have any pronouns or gendered nouns, it might be possible that the mage were a woman or maybe a gender neutral entity. Or I might’ve just missed the part where he was confirmed to be a “he”🤔

We do. I can't point to exactly where it's confirmed and I (and some translators) were very confused about it at first when reading it initially, but yeah he's a he. Elves just look very androgynous.
