@@_DeadlyNightshade_ There's a world of difference between doing as your parents say, and providing 84hrs a week of slave labor. I've seen the other side, parents pushing their kids to aim too high so they can have a comfy life in retirement, and then similarly not knowing how to cope when the kids struggle to achieve the goals pushed on them. Idk which is better.

From the moment the father said he was pretty much forcing all his kids to work UNPAID for him, with "living at home" as a reward, I understood why everyone was so pissed and angry, I would be too. That's slavery, sir. Very sad episode tbh.

That´s the problem when a family restaurant like this is only the dream of one member of the family. The kids all have dreams on there own and want to do other things which is natural because it wasn´t there idea or choice really to work there. I actually worked in a restaurant like that for a few weeks and it was really awfull. Things like that can really destroy familys.

@@dallysinghson5569 I would love you to explain your comment - Lebanon the least middle Eastern of the countries. If by this you are referring to Lebanon's religious, cultural and political diversity then I agree Lebanon is different to its Middle Eastern neighbours, Israel being the obvious exception. However, this family is from a specific 'community' - the names tell us which one - and they see having a large family as a form of protection against old age. Hence the father is able to justify enslaving his children to a life they would not choose for themselves. And Ismail Abaza - being critical does not mean 'hating on'! By the way Dally, I have studied my own history and yes some of my ancestors were despicable. The difference is, I am not. For me, what this father is doing to his children in our more enlightened times is pretty despicable

That's the saddest episode I've seen so far. Father wants family restaurant, but no-one shares that dream. While children are forced to make father's dream work, they cannot pursue the dreams of their own. Stress and depression have turned siblings against each other, while father has gone into denial to cope with the fact that this is all his fault. Burger Kitchen's drama was messed up, but this one takes the cake, because for some reason I feel for every single member of this family. There's no betrayal, just bunch of shattered dreams.

Yeah like how God makes humanity feel like its their fault for their sins, when it was not them who ate the forbidden fruit but Adam and Eve, why do we have to inherit their sin, when we didn't eat the fruit? Why would you make this sin be inherited when that is unfair to the kids, because they are being punished for something that they didn't choose to inherit or have, it was just passed to them by their parents, and they have to suffer because of their parents' mistakes

For those wondering: This restaurant closed in January 2014. Sam says that appearing on the show did not really help but also blamed the rising competition in the area. Business had a surge for a short period of time like 2-3weeks after the episode was aired but after that it went back to being slow. Trip advisors reviews are mainly positive. Yelp reviews are mixed but mostly negative abt food and customer service.

Sam's Mediterranean Kabob Room closed in January 2014 with owner Sam telling the press that appearing on the show didn't work out. After the show they didn't do much better than before, they had a brief surge in business for around two weeks but did not gain long term business from appearing on the show. Sam also blamed the rise of competition from other restaurants in the area and a number of new Mediterranean restaurants planned to open close to their location. Yelp reviews after the show filmed were mixed but mostly average or poor with criticisms of both the food and the service.

I'm fckn telling you that what they call oriental convergence, is the remain of a tradition, having stiffed into an image. Closed after year and half... well, you get what you pay for, daddy Sam. If you pay your family the bare minimum (in form of housing and living costs), dont be suprised they put minimal effort to the work. And if there was only 1 restaurant on the planet, and all the staff was working at minimum effort, it will be closed very soon. Many of restaurants owners do this s**t here (minimal wages in high-priced crowded tourist centre) and then wonder why it dont work at all. Its very hard job, both kitchen and serving, many people have no idea about the staffs work.

Its selfish of the father to force his children to follow his dreams instead of encouraging and supporting them to follow their own.

Only ep that's made me cry so far. That man had 7 kids just so he could have them as free employees... It makes sense why they were fighting so much. I could tell they all loved each other but damn what a complicated situation

99% of kitchen nightmares resturant issue fixes. Update decor, use fresh ingredients, have systems in place, simple menu, and listen to customer feedback. It's the magic equation nobody can figure out without Ramsay's help.

I always felt so bad for these kids tbh. like working with your family can be fine, living with your family can be fine, but if you work and live with your family 24/7 there’s no break. You can’t breathe. And they weren’t even being paid for it either. All of that together I’d be fighting with my family too, and unmotivated to work or really help either.

It make perfect sense that this restaurant is failing. The employees are working 7 days a week without being paid. I wouldn't put any effort in either.

I feel like the dad was scared that once they go off to college or become independent that the kids would forget about him and he would be alone so he uses the restaurant to keep them all together so they don’t leave

This family deserved that makeover, the most grateful family I’ve ever seen of Gordon’s helps. Couldn’t stop crying, love this episode. Sad to hear it’s closed but I hope they had better memories when they left

I have never heard a family argue so much. They were just talking over each other and nobody was listening. It was great to see the kids finally stand up to their father so they could all move on. Well done Gordon
