Naaaah, those are the bloody French. What we disagree on is that people pretending to be Italian (you know, knowing the culture, and stuff) go there saying "pasta fazool" or "gabagool" stating that's true Italian. Well, it's not. On the other hand, if you say "I'm American from Italian origin" -which most of the times is referred to like 4 generations back- then we can understand why do you speak in that funny way, and just close an eye. Being said that, it's not "pasta fagioli", it's "pasta E fagioli", and the -gio- part, is pronounced as -Joh- in "John", although there are, of course, regional variations. Oh, and it's not "muzzarella", it's "mozzarella", with an o. Cheers.

Gabagool = Capocollo which in Italian literally means head(capo*) neck(collo). And it’s not prosciutto, the prosciutto is made from the leg of the pig while the capocollo, also known as “coppa” or “lonza” in Italy, is obtained by processing the upper portion of the pig's neck and part of the shoulder; hence the name "capocollo". Anyway, he also managed to mispronounce mozzarella, he literally said “mUzzarella” pronounced as in the word "moon", instead of “mOzzarella” pronounced as in the word “Monday” or “money”. 😂 Well at the very least he pronounced “pasta e fagioli”(pasta and beans) correctly. Edit: I’m Italian, literally from Italy, From Rimini if I had to be precise, so yeah, perhaps I know what I’m talking about. I had to make this clarification as there are people down here whose comments claim that “I haven’t been around enough legit Italians”, lol. *: If I have to be 100% precise, the word "capo" in Italian means several things in addition to the aforementioned meaning of "head", such as "boss" or more precisely "chief" therefore from an hierarchical standpoint it indicates the first element of composition as in the words "capoufficio, caporeddatore, capostazione" which are respectively "office manager, editor-in-chief, station manager", or for example in a sentence you can say "ho messo questo ufficiale a capo di questo reggimento" - "I put this officer in charge of this regiment". The “New Year’s Eve” translated in Italian is “Capodanno”(Capo d’anno/ End of the year) Furthermore in geography, it can also mean a protrusion of land on the sea, often of a certain altimetric relief like for Capo di Buona Speranza/Cape of Good Hope, or you can even use it in phrases such as “fino a capo al mondo” - "to the end of the world".

Then there's prosciutto, which is neither proshutoe nor projutto, it's pronounced proSHootto in standard Italian and proshoot/presoot in Neapolitan*. Gabagool is Brooklyn lingo for capocollo (Italian) or capocuollo/capicuollo (Neapolitan*) *Neapolitan as in the big language family from southern Italy, which is made of the Neapolitan language itself and its many dialects such as barese, foggiano, salernitano, avellinese, cosentino etc.

As an Italian American, it wasn't pronunciation, it was NYC speed. The people who would say "proscuit" and "fagiol" instead of "prosciutto" and "fagioli" often spoke fluent Italian. You just cut off the last syllable. Same with changing the vowels to match English pronunciation to flow smoother and faster with the English language. When you speak Italian, you say it the Italian way. When you speak English, you blend it with the English language. "Fagiol" becomes "fagool" becomes "fazool". A Spanish speaker who's fluent in Spanish wouldn't say "Mehico" with extra phlegm on the "h", when saying that word in an English sentence. They'd just say "Meksiko" for "Mexico".
