@@jcgabriel1569 This video is awesome; how much I love the supercharged engine sound! From this onboard, I can only imagine the effort that the drivers had to make to race with these cars. Nothing was easy, and everything seemed tiring, moving the gearbox, turning the steering wheel, braking, trying to get the car to stay on the road and all these operations while competing with the other opponents.

@@Italiansupercarvideo One better thing from the video is the fact that they said it is being tested in preparation for a race at Goodwood! I can't wait to see and hear that booming straight-8, even if only on the KZbin livestream! The car in the clip, would you believe, is a new car built from a cache of parts found in Italy. That makes it the second Alfetta to have officially escaped the Alfa Romeo factory. One had been swapped with the 8C 2900 Le Mans Berlinetta back in the 1980s. In the last few minutes of the clip, we can actually see a slight glimpse of the true power of the Alfetta, Good thing is, the driver, Willie Green, had a good experience in driving an Alfetta fast, having raced the other car in the 1990s!

Yeah, especially if we consider that the P3 is the fastest GP car that still used non-independent suspension all around. It can go to speeds above 170mph...
@Loulovesspeed Жыл бұрын
@@jcgabriel1569 - Sorry mate, but the top speed of the P3 was 144 mph, still very fast for its time, but nowhere near 170!
@jcgabriel1569 Жыл бұрын
@@Loulovesspeed Sorry, but Louis Chiron was timed doing 169mph driving one down the Monte Silvano straight at the Coppa Acerbo in 1934. And he's driving a 2.9 litre car. At the same race, an 8C Monza was timed doing 140mph. Nuvolari (driving a Maserati 8CM), and Antonio Brivio (driving a Bugatti Type 59) both clocked 150 mph. And, as an added note, there was an intermittent crosswind blowing across the straight, making driving at top speed difficult, and ultimately, may have played a major role in Guy Moll's fatal accident in another P3 at the last stages of the race. So, chances are, even with those numbers, the drivers are actually not fully committing to the fullest because of the crosswind. The only way for a P3 to top out at 144mph would be to use a lower gear and final drive ratio, and, if it's a 2.9 or a 3.2 litre version, possibly even use smaller diameter rear tires.

@@Italiansupercarvideo back in the 1960s-1980s, apparently there were more faster drivers in these cars. At a historic race at Rouen in 1966, Bill Summers caused a stir as he flogged his P3 down the straights faster than the then-F2 cars, basically he's blasting down the straights at 160-170mph, all the more impressive as he's running a hastily-prepared spare engine as he broke the original one... In the 1970s-1980s, David Black and Rodney Felton would also routinely harass and beat the ERAs with their P3s, and there's also Bill Summers again, this time using an ex-Nuvolari Maserati 6C-34. There's actually a video here in KZbin somewhere of a historic race at Silverstone in the 1990s. The cameraman is mostly concentrating on ERAs fighting for second place, but the lead car, Rodney Felton's P3, is never challenged, the only telltale sign that he's there is the _very angry_ sound of the P3 as it passes the camera!

@@jcgabriel1569 All very interesting what you say. The P3 must have been a crazy car, way ahead of its era in terms of performance, so much so that a strong pilot was capable of incredible results.
@jcgabriel15692 жыл бұрын
@@Italiansupercarvideo Thing is, in today's historic racing with cars like these, things were in favour of the smaller Voiturettes like the Maserati 6CM and 4CLs, and especially the ERAs. The ERAs, for example, had been racing continuously ever since, and as a result, benefited a lot from performance tweaks done over the years, fitting a bigger 2 litre engine (compared to the 1.5 litres they used in Voiturette class, but still period correct) also allowed even more power. Add the fact that most tracks now were more technical and with shorter straights, which favours the agile old Voiturettes more than the older GP cars. So, all those times that the old GP cars like the P3 and the Maserati 8CMs managing to fight the more agile 6CMs and ERAs were quite something. That's why the Monaco Historique win of Matt Grist in 2014 in his P3 is a big thing for me. Monaco, as you know, is very twisty. Matt Grist is only second fastest in qualifying, with ERAs on pole, third and fourth on the grid. But on race day, he excelled himself, not only going faster than his qualifying time, but also going faster than the pole time! He did pass the lead ERA and lead the race to the end.

Doppio compressore Roots, arrivò a supera i 270Km/h. Non oso immaginare cosa fosse vedere un'auto del genere guidata da Nuvolari. Alfa Romeo era avanti anni luce e quei piloti erano veri eroi.

It would be quite problematic to get this colour right, since the car had its original, faded and worn out paint. Unless you can make a new paintwork look very old and well used. I think the best thing to do is just try to research the history of Italy's Rosso Corsa, and use the colour code that corresponds to the colour used in the time of this car (1932-35)

Why Alfa Romeo Stop Competing In Big Event?
@Italiansupercarvideo5 жыл бұрын
Let's remember that the Alfa Romeo won the first Formula 1 championship. In those years the Italian brand was too superior to all the others, so far that it retired because there was no competition. Then as we also know the other manufacturers over time became competitive, the Afa-Romeo decided to use its resources and energy in the prototype championships with great victories and then in more recent times with the superturismo and DTM. Unfortunately, there has been a long period of more than 20 years in recent times when Alfa-Romeo has not actively participated in the races. Alfa-Romeo returning now (unfortunately not in the DTM) and we will see what they can do. With Ferrari in the FCA group, I don't know how many resources are available for racing....
@jcgabriel15695 жыл бұрын
And to top it all off, yes they did win the first two F1 World Driver's Championship (1950 with Giuseppe "Nino" Farina and 1951 with none other than Juan Manuel Fangio). But what's even more incredible in that is the car they used, the Alfa Romeo 158 (upgraded and named 159) "Alfetta" is already a 13 year-old car!!!
@Italiansupercarvideo5 жыл бұрын
@@jcgabriel1569 Exactly. If you do a research, among the admirers and lovers of racing cars, the Alfetta 159 and the Maserati 250F are both considered two F1 milestones for their incredible performance, driveability (obviously for the time) and reliability. What a wonderful time that was! 👍
@jcgabriel15695 жыл бұрын
After they won the first two World Championships in 1950 and 1951, Alfa Romeo stopped competing because they didn't really have any more money to spend to develop and make a new car, the car they used to win those two WCs, the 158 and 159 "Alfetta", were basically, from 1938!!! And if they would attempt to continue using the car, they would definitely be beaten by new designs such as Ferrari's 375. So obviously, they decided that the best thing for their company's honour would be to stop at the top of the game, rather than cotinue and get beaten up.
