Joel, I fully agree with you. Diesel (preferably the v8) is the right choice. Such a shame that the road tax on diesel vehicles is crazy expensive here in the Netherlands. Road tax for a 2019 v8 diesel RR is around 3900 (euro) per year!

Really enjoyed your honesty Joel, great video to watch. Couple of points to add; On a motorway run I’ll regularly get 26/27mpg. Not the 4,4’s mid 30’s but still reasonable. And the diesel has the known faults of DPF issues and fuel running past the pistons and filling the sump up. Plus the 5L is LEZ/ULEZ compliant. Secondly, a testament to its drive train. It pulled my old L200 which had a 2,5T trailer of brick rubble attached to it out of a grass field. On those Michelin PS4 tyres. That’s impressive. I can’t think of many cars that can offer that level of versatility.

Great video! I recently considered buying an L405; they look better than ever and present astounding value for money. However, the lack of proper buttons and switches in favour of unnecessary screens really put me off. You know what I’ve gone for and I’m hoping it’ll have just the right amount of tech, without any of the novelty stuff!

Controversial choice taking the 4.4TDV8 over the 5SC, but I like it! (I have the 4.4 TDV8!)
@kcd21206 күн бұрын
I much prefer this version over the new one. To me, the new one is ‘too smooth’. Love the rear on the L405, the proper door handles and actual knobs and dials inside. The newest RRs have everything on screen now, it’s almost as spartan as a Tesla.
@itsjoel6 күн бұрын
Agree the latest iteration of the l460 without the buttons is a bit silly.
@nimedave6 күн бұрын
The new one is like a bar of soap. However, the price hike to 200k is simply to compete with the G class and used Cul. It is not matched by any material improvement. This 200k car will be 10-15k one day sadly.

I’m glad that you mentioned the lag in acceleration of the petrol v8 sc engines because i thought it was just my car.
@aquariumdvd4 күн бұрын
@@sholagan You can change this by taking it out of AUTO and putting it in to DYNAMIC, which has completely different accelerator mapping. It's much more responsive and linear in DYNAMIC mode.

The real power comes in when you drive about 30km/h in deep sand pulling an off road caravan. With the 4.2 supercharged I have the torque is all over the spectrum.

Except the 4.4 TDV8 has the same amount of torque as this 5.2 SC (700nm) and more than your 4.2 SC (569nm) :)

Great video. I love my L405 SV Autobiography Dynamic. The ONE thing I can't stand though is the ride quality on less than perfect roads. It's atrocious. In the SVA Dynamic (short wheelbase) models like mine and the one in this review, they've stiffened the damping so much (for better handling) that on broken roads and pavement, it feels like you're riding in an oxcart with no springs. It's unbelievably bad. I was surprised that they would allow a Range Rover (renowned for its magic carpet ride) to have such a stiff suspension over bad roads. The long wheelbase SVA (non-dynamic) doesn't seem to suffer the same insufferable shock damping. I would pay anything to adjust the suspension setup, but I believe damping is computer controlled. Otherwise, these are magnificent cars that rival Bentleys in interior luxury.

Enjoyed this as it mirrored a lot of my own thoughts and experiences of these cars. I prefer the pre-facelift which uses proper buttons still and our fleet cars had the deployable steps. They were a pain in the backside though because you could smack them on a high kerb, and without fail one or both would fail to retract at some point. One of ours was stolen in London and turned up a year later in Mombasa. The 322 is the sweet spot for me though.

You beat me to it, couldn't let the "wing mirrors" error go though.
@paulellwood67683 күн бұрын
They're door mirrors, not wing mirrors. Wing mirrors used to be fitted to the front wings (think 1970's and earlier cars), they were pretty much completely superceded by the arrival of door mounted mirrors in the late 70s and 80s. Lots of people make this mistake thinking that they're called wing mirrors because they stick out like tiny wings.

I have a 2012 RR L322 HSE Lux (U.S.). The Lux gives air con seats and some nicer trim. Bought it about 5 years ago with 40k miles. Now has 115k and its been very solid. Only items I've had to replace were the front air shocks, blower motor fan (long weekend job) and the water pump. Otherwise its been solid. We just picked up a BEAUTIFUL certified 2020 RR SV Autobiography Dynamic in a stunning optional blue with the same black/brown interior as in this video. It only has 22k miles. We added another year of warranty from Land Rover (2 yrs now). Price was reasonable with the condition - about $80k. Couldn't be happier with the new truck. My wife will use the 2020 as her daily and I'l stay with the 2012 (love the center stack). Here in the US diesel really isn't an option. Fuel is cheap (compared to Europe) and its just the "cost of doing business". My modified Rx-7 got about 8-12 mpg and my RV was lucky if it got 6 so 20 is HUGE :). As for the engine, I always want the most powerful one in the range if possible. I'd rather have it and not need it most times then need (want?) it and not have it. Not really a fan of the newest iteration. Too spartan for me. I like knobs and switches. In a year or two, when its time for my next car, I'm considering finding a RR Sport SVR. We've had a few Land Rovers - older Discos - and while some have been unreliable, its hard to give up the brand. From experience with Land Rovers, finding one near the end of the model run tends to be the way to go. I'd NEVER buy a model in the first couple of years of production. Land Rover always seems to take a few years to work out the kinks. 75+ vehicles later, I'm running out of things that interest me other than older cars (60's American Muscle or 80s Japanese sports cars). I can't see the supercars being worth the pain of ownership. German cars are boring and the styling leaves a LOT to be desired for me. Not into the newer American or Japanese cars/trucks. Just returned my 2021 F150 and while it was useful for its purpose, I'm not a "truck guy". So I guess I'm stuck with JLR :)

It’s cool and all I just still prefer my 09 4.2 SC Euro spec I imported into the states from Canada. The simplicity and classic lines just always sell the L322 to me. Along with the fact it’s become a classic instead of being a disposable tech heavy lux mall crawler. If anything I think I’d just get the latest gen full size once it drops in value. I feel they are going to age better. My 2 cents.
