This is such a ridiculously high quality review. The purchasing page on Amazon doesn't actually show the flame pattern, but now I'm convinced this can work. Sick of my landlord's terrible electric stovetop. Thanks, my man. You've unlocked a future of porkchops with a decent sear for me.

This Iwatani stove is among the best butane stove burners you can buy. The model is 35FW, has a unique magnetic locking system, a heat panel that keeps the butane canister warm so it can keep pressure to use up all the remaining fuel, saving you money in the long-term. It is very easy to clean. The video also shows how to fix a common issue with the igniter - if it doesn't spark, just take a very sharp blade and clean off any dark spots and dirt off the white ceramic portion of the igniter, being very careful not to damage it. You'll love this burner. 15,000 BTU at the maximum setting. Thanks very much for watching! Press the LIKE button if this video was useful, and subscribe to our vanlife channel for more reviews and travel videos. In regards to safety of Butane Stoves in General, you can take a look at this South Australian Government website: www.sa.gov.au/topics/energy-and-environment/using-electricity-and-gas-safely/portable-gas-cooker-safety You'll see other brands listed as dangerous and non-compliant, but the Iwatani brand is not on the list. For those of you who already own a stove made prior to 2015, it may not conform to (Australian) safety standards. You may want to then dispose of it as it may not be safe.

i own a cheaper one, like 60 euros. it has those same features so iwatani has that on all models. You model has much better wind protections and the brass burger plus cartridge removal dial position, making it the very best of the best.

Fixing the ignition system: think of the 'igniter' as the spark plug on a gasoline engine. That white piece is probably ceramic, being used as an electrical insulator. If it gets covered in grease and/or carbon it will break down electrically, and the igniter will not spark............just the same as a car spark plug. So.... always keep that clean, and it will work, so long as the piezo unit works. If you can see marks on the insulator consistent with electrical tracking.... the insulator is ruined and needs replacement. In an emergency you could grind or scrape the tracking marks off the insulator, with a reasonable chance of making it work......but replace it asap (the insulator and whatever comes with it, if it is a a pre-assembled complete unit)

Thank you for the kind words! You'll definitely enjoy the Iwatani butane stove. If you use it for travelling a lot, you might find over time that the brass burner might move ever so slightly and cause your stove to not ignite anymore. A quick and super easy fix is to align the tiny notch on the brass burner with the metal tip of the white ceramic igniter. I share a very short video on how to fix this issue here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2atq5yBqMqGabM

We use the 35FW every day in our Sprinter van while we've been traveling across Canada. It's absolutely recommended! We use it to boil water for coffee and tea, and the high BTU makes it very hot in no time. We can also set it on very very low to keep tortillas warm in a cast iron pan and they don't burn. Great for slow cooking quesadillas! You won't be disappointed!👍

Question here: I was looking to purchase this exact model for indoor use in my home kitchen because I have recently gotten into cooking a lot more Chinese food at home and even bought a new wok but I only have an electric stove and I'm just simply not getting the stir frying results that I'm looking for. The wok I bought recommended using a gas burner of 14000 btu for the best results. So my question is, would this be safe to use it at home in my kitchen?
@sprinterdiscovery
@sprinterdiscovery 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely! Make sure you have some fresh air ventilation as always when cooking with gas. This high-BTU burner is perfect for wok cooking. To be safe, make sure the flame does not spill over on top of the gas canister housing (will only happen with very large flat-bottomed pans). I think you'll really enjoy this burner. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Amazing review. What’s is your experience with searing and or cooking steaks with cast iron or carbon steel pans. Is this powerful enough to heat those pans?
@sprinterdiscovery
@sprinterdiscovery 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie - Thanks! We have used our Iwatani outside when camping using both our carbon steel and our heavy cast iron skillet for cooking boneless pork chops and beef steaks.. We cooked them outside of the van due to the amount of smoke produced. The heavy cast iron gets very hot on the high setting and the steaks sear very well. We actually have to reduce the heat else the steak will burn. For the carbon steel pan, it is much thinner, so it heats up super fast and we definitely have to reduce the heat on that one. The Iwatani 35FW is 15,000 BTU - it produces almost as much heat as our KitchenAid natural gas stove at home. I hope that helps! It definitely is a great stove ! Here are some pans we use and recommend: This is the cast iron pan we use from Lodge: amzn.to/3ubhCvC And this is the carbon steel pan we recently purchased and we highly recommend - it is pre-seasoned and eggs literally slide around in this pan! It is the Browne Thermalloy Carbon Steel pan - amzn.to/3e8CPky

I'm thinking of getting the Iwatani ZA-3HP 12,000BTU model. It's about half the price of the one that you are reviewing. Do you think that would be a good purchase? I'm not sure why you'd want to spend double on 3,000 extra BTUs, unless I'm missing something....
@sprinterdiscovery
@sprinterdiscovery 3 жыл бұрын
For indoor usage, go for the ZA-3HP. It also has the heat panel system same as the Iwatani 35FW. The ZA-3HP doesn't have the wind breaker riser, and it's only 3,0000 BTU less. We bought the 35FW for the highest BTU output for high heat wok cooking when we're not cooking inside the van, and also for the windbreaker riser to reduce the effect that the wind has on the flame. Might as well save money if you can. These stoves are very well made and you won't regret you're decision either way. Good luck! Take care!

@@mr.d.572 We've tried two different brands of butane so far from the local T&T Asian Grocery store here in Vancouver. Both were made in Korea, and they must comply with certain standards for the type of cartridge. The nice thing about the ZA-3HP and 35FW is the magnetic locking feature. It just does not come loose from the canister. I think if there is any safety concern, it would be at that point... If it leaks due to a loose connection or not. I think we still need to be careful though with any kind of gas. We have a fire extinguisher right next to the table in our van. Personally I'd use any canister made in Korea, so long as there are no dents or other visible signs of damage. We always carry 8 canisters in one drawer in the van everywhere we go. Almost 4 years of doing so and so far so good.

Thanks for watching mate! I personally have not used titanium cookware with the burner. Based on this article, I wouldn't turn the 35FW burner on full high heat on a non-stick coated pan/pot (titanium included). www.goodhousekeeping.com/cooking-tools/cookware-reviews/a17426/nonstick-cookware-safety-facts/ I use a few carbon steel pans and a wok at home which can handle the high heat from a gas/butane stove. If seasoned correctly and over time, it becomes non-stick naturally due to the carbon polymers forming a nice bond between the steel and your food, making it non-stick. Again, thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the review! Take care!

You're welcome to hang out today, we'll have a cup of coffee and chat all day long if you like! We've moved over to carbon steel cookware and high quality 18/10 stainless. We season our carbon steel wok and pans so they are literally non-stick when frying eggs when we use some canola oil as a lubricant. If you use coated copper cookware you'll be safe. Uncoated copper cookware can cause the copper molecules to leach from the pan into your food. Unfortunately I don't have any links for pans for you.

@@sprinterdiscovery Thanks very much, I am guessing my Revere ware copper is coated but will check it out. I am not a big cook, just want a way to heat up simple food etc;) I sent your link to a few people, I don't think using any kind of gas is the place to save money, lol. Better safe than sorry.

@@PsychopathInYourLife I have revere ware, works fine on these butane stoves. if you cranked the heat on high with an empty pan, bad things might happen but I think that's true for any stove.

Iwatani is the Rolls Royce of butane burners. It's easy to find a cheap Chinese or Korean model that will work well enough, but the quality of the Iwatani stoves is noticeably better. My Korean burner is still going strong after 25 years, but I aspire to order one of these some day :)

Is there such an item, as a gas canister case/ container for storing canisters in.
@sprinterdiscovery
@sprinterdiscovery 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can get an ammunition box and store 12 of the butane canisters in there. That should work. We store ours in our Sprinter van within a Husky tool cabinet drawer. We've been doing this for 4 years now and it's been very safe. Hope that helps!

Hello! Thanks for watching! Yes, we've used this unit safely in our Sprinter van, even with a container of fuel in the cartridge of the 35FW while we've driven over rough roads and highways. No problems at all and very confident in the safety of the stove. We mounted it on top of our countertop while we drive. We also carry up to 8 extra butane cartridges with us inside our van in a steel cabinet - we use a Husky 52" tool cabinet to store all our kitchen stuff. You won't be disappointed 😁

Can you hook up one of the big gas tanks? Like the ones you use for gas grill.
@sprinterdiscovery
@sprinterdiscovery 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Vahan - The Iwatani 35FW is only a single fuel burner which uses butane. If you are looking for a dual fuel burner with high-heat that can use butane and propane (the larger propane fuel tanks), you could go with this Gas One: amzn.to/3gEFWSN It has a n adapter hose to fit a 1 pound propane bottle. Then if you want to use the much larger propane tanks with it, you can buy the 1 pound to 20 pound hose adapter listed here: amzn.to/2PnmS06 Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and have a great day!

We haven't removed it after we finish cooking. The cartridge stays connected to the magnet very well, even when we travel on rough forest service roads. For safety, you may want to though.

How many hours does one can of butone last with the burner on high?
@sprinterdiscovery
@sprinterdiscovery 3 жыл бұрын
On high it will last about 55 minutes. You can take a look at Iwatani website iwatani.com/35-fw where they mention the amount of time it will last. When we travel and cook with it in our van, one cartridge lasts us about 4 days of cooking our meals and boiling water. I'd say we only usually use 25-50% power. Buy them in 4-packs if you can - they don't go bad. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

@@sprinterdiscovery I've never used butane cans before. Are they safe to store in your cabinets in your kitchen? My power just went out for 21 hours from a small 20 minute wind storm, so I'm looking to use this for emergencies like that.
@sprinterdiscovery
@sprinterdiscovery 3 жыл бұрын
@@tomjoad6993 Hi Tom - very safe - just keep them away from high heat. I always travel with a set of up to 8 canisters stored in my Sprinter van's cabinets under my countertop. I secure them with a towel so they don't keep banging into each other. We've been in hot weather, on bumpy roads, freezing cold temps, and there have not been any issues. Having a stove like this is great for your situation - like during power outages - and can be used if you go camping too, or even daily usage. Best of luck when you get it - and hope your power comes back on soon!

The cartridges get hot over long cooking periods in fact very hot because the shielding is rubbish!!!!

No it doesn't. You simply have an oversized pan sitting on the burner. The flame will then fan out over the shield. use a proper sized pan (no larger than the burner grates, and it is absolutely fine.
