Qlso if you become to friendly with a wild animal it can cause it to become dependent on humans or just to trustworthy of them which could lead to its death. Admire wild animals from afar and if a wild animal does approach you, let it get its sniff on and then let it be on its way

Crazy thing is the boot the baby seal put in his mouth could of been his hand and instead of his hand the baby seal bit his boot and couldn't bite hard enough to do anything to it and gave up lol but if that was his hand or something it could've gone different tbh, it's like playing Russian roulette

I never realised how we as humans have this instinct of wanting to pet literally everything, like the urge to pet that seal was real

we like to be pet to, we feel good when moms keep their hands on our heads while we are laying on their laps

This isn't limited to humans, however what constitutes a "pet" can differ from animal to animal depending on what part of their bodies they use to touch things (hence why quadrupeds so often like nuzzling things.) We seem to do it the most because we're excellent judges of what is and isn't a threat to us, whereas other animals will often remain too wary of "strangers" to get that petter's instinct. The one exception to this is infants. Most mammals seem to instinctively view infants as something harmless that should be protected. Even predatory animals that actively eat the infants of other species have shown signs of this. I once read an article discussing a leopard who attempted to protect and nurture an infant baboon after killing its parents. The leopard had recently lost her own cub, so it's believed her mother's instincts overrode her predator's instincts.

I would pet it if I could, but I wouldn't. Petting a baby animal can leave an imprint on it, making it not as skittish around humans as it should. The seal may develop a sort of liking towards the cameraman and may become depressed when he leaves, leaving a baby seal who is very sad. It would be morally (I think is the word) wrong despite the big ol' eyes and the totally petable face in which I would squeeeeeze. However, zoo animals are a completely different thing.

@@GamerMinilla I mean I wouldn’t put it past a hungry Great White to go after an elephant seal. Especially since even with it’s blubber, it wouldn’t be capable of surviving the first bite. Those jaws can turn the femurs in our legs into splinters with a single full force bite, so a sneak attack would probably kill the elephant seal outright, or leave it badly wounded and bleeding heavily.
