IXION Chapter 5 Part 3. In this final episode of the series, I go through both endings, settling Remus first, and then Romulus. I also, in some confusion about not being able to use the PA I picked up from the Protagoras, test what happens if the Piranesi is allowed to go to Remus. Hope you enjoyed the series!
IXION is finally here, and I am more than a little bit in love with this game. Describing the game genre is a bit difficult, since it combines so much from so many games - but one quick summary would be that this is a Sci-Fi Space game similar to Frostpunk, but with a lot of aspects leaning on logistics, grid city builder games, factory and production games, and so much more. The storyline is simply awe-inspiring, and the soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a game.
I hope you will enjoy the series as we explore the story of the Tiqqun, as I try to guide it through space with presumably the last remnants of humanity, in the hopes of finding a colonisable exo-planet that we can colonise.

----------
IXION combines city building, survival elements and exploration, into a thrilling space opera as you explore the stars. Propelled onwards through a perilous journey, you are the Administrator of the Tiqqun space station, charged with finding a new home for humanity.
Keeping the station sound and flying will require a deft hand and strategic thinking, as you are constantly pulled between maintaining hull integrity, bringing in new resources and managing power consumption.
What choices will you make when confronted with impending disaster? What will you discover out there in the dark?

While the background story has been relatively well fleshed out, that ending sequence has me believe some content was cut for time; they already had one release delay, and probably could not afford a second one. We'll have to see if additional content / DLC / whatever is forthcoming, and what it reveals. 🤞

Thank you for the play-though. It was a fun watch. One thing I noticed, that the Dog was in both endings. That was a nice touch of the art team to put it in if you chose to keep the dog.

Ending 1: Agreed. So, so many questions. Ending 2: Still so many questions. But at least Humanity survived. Ending 3: We saw Remus after it's destruction. But would the Piranesi have come after you at Romulus... questions questions. Thanks. For the playthrough, for the advice, for the measured commentary.

When you chose to colonize Romulus, the end is when Piranesi destroy it, so they have to destroy 2 planets. Way more time to avoid that situation.

He knew they were going to blow up the moon and did it anyway. I don't play colony survival games myself. I enjoy watching others play them for the story mostly. I like the way you play them. However, the story in this game has quite a few logical flaws and plot holes. Options that could make it much more interesting have been overlooked. Perhaps they will "patch" this perceived flaw. I look forward to another game series from you. 😊

I very much enjoyed your meticulous playthrough and look forward to the next game. I would actually like to see an Against the Storm playthrough where you really build up the whole tech tree, but I wonder if that game's elements of randomness would not mesh well with your careful planning? Let's find out! Haha. As far as story elements go in this game, I like them a fair bit. I think there is an idea there with parallel dimensions and time travel that is partly realized and partly hand-waved away. I also loved the many (many many) references to various sci fi properties. You mentioned Star Wars and Star Trek, but you also get 2001 ("Aministrator..." when you go to shut off Edden), the Alien franchise, Zygote (as you mentioned), The Matrix (Piranesi is an AI with squiddies keeping humans in white liquid for 'reasons'), and Sphere. Probably even more. It's a rich narrative behind the world of your little ship.

Also Asimov's Foundation. If Vanir Dolos is a Hari Seldon like character whose predictions say that the Lunaclysm is inevitable whether or not the Tiqqun causes it, the ending makes a lot more sense.

Thank you for the series. Was very enjoyable. By the way, Romulus and Remus are a myth about twins from Roman history. That's where they likely got the names rather than Star Trek. :)

I really enjoyed the series. I have to say the second ending was a bit confusing (not your fault but the games) And the third ending also is disappointing. There should be an option to actually battle with the Piranesi. That would be extremely satisfying but maybe it is being saved for a DLC/expansion. I would like to see an option in the game where we could choose to remain fully human and colonise somewhere ... again maybe that will come with an expansion. I certainly would like to see another play through from you and of course please keep this game in mind when they do release DLC and expansions. Not sure what other games I would enjoy watching as much as this one. The story line was very engaging which took it from a city builder to something exceptional.

A rather disappointing end. It seems that the "ending quests" were just variations on "fetchit buildit" with only binary outcomes. There was not a sense of tough ending choices and outcomes based on earlier choices in the game. This appears to be a rushed ending. For example a) if the administrator built up lots of resources and some particular research in the Tiqqun, they could build a super weapon to destroy the Piranesi b) if there was not enough research and resources, the administrator had to sacrifice some people to destroy the Piranesi in a suicide run. c) if there was enough particular research (say Naomi Protocol), they could trigger the PA to do battle with the Piranesi AI. d) if there was not enough resources, the administrator is forced to bond with the Ashtangites e) If there were a super economy and research, the administrator could repair the Vohle drive and escape the Piranesi forever. f) Or a political ending - with the right kind of research, the admistrator negotiates with the Romulans for their aid to destroy the Piranesi etc etc Make the earlier choices and end game choices on the Tiqqun have consequences. Success and failure to be non binary outcomes. The current ending is just way too linear and uncreative.

As a selfish human, I like the third ending the best. None of the “we are one with the planet” for me. One of the scariest sci-fi short story for me is Green Patches by Asimov, and Remus reminds me of that planet. However, as a follow-up to this game, the second ending probably has the most potential, exploring how the two different philosophies compete with each other.

I've just finished this, both romulus and remus plus a fail to see what happens. You've got to remember the story is scripted and uses trigger points to progress. If you don't set off a trigger you can happily sit forever gathering resources until you're ready. I think the endings are a little weak, in neither case do you have to transport crew to the planet in question, in fact many game mechanics are frankly laughable but it is what it is.
@dimercamparini

Just some things to wrap it up: 1) I liked a lot more the romulus ending...at least we managed to keep our individualism and humanity...instead of being transformed in communist plants with no defenses and not wanting to do space travel anymore...so being stuck on a single planet at the mercy of any minor problem that might happen... 2) dunno if ppl notices but the "waste" that the genome converter produces are actual ppl that die and cant pass the process to become "plants"... (and the plant-guys are supposed to be the good guys) :(( 3) you saw in the beginning the actual advantages of algae vs. crop...and combined that with the fact that after chap3 I dont think there is basically any use for wastes to produce more resources...the advantages of algae are FAR surpassing the crops in a very efficient station going into chap4-5...at some point you can basically ignore ICE, and also H for the most part (2 resource related factors out of the game entirely)... (also in my station I kept 3 algae farms and not just 2...for various reasons, for example a better policy for food for more happiness for ppl...and still profiting from their advantages over crop) Anyway...good series and was a pleasure to watch...good job! :)

In my playthrough, I went full on into waste production so it was making all my resources and all my food (mushroom walls are great food producers with the sector specialisations). I never mined any ice (insect farms, then mushroom walls) nor any hydrogen (just did solar).
@dimercamparini
@dimercamparini Жыл бұрын
@@MisuVir That would be a nice route to try...I did mostly the opposite (disregarding mushrooms for food and in general giving very few importance to wastes). I used it only in the beginning to get a few more chips from the waste recyclers...and that was basically it...

@Caledorn 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I believe you can 😊 At least you could - they may have patched things out. How you usually did it was by completing the colonisation of Romulus before the Piranesi reaches Remus. I think there are some dialogue options you need to do too. As in you may have to complete some conversation with the Elders on Remus, and then tell them you do not want to become part of their collective.
