IXION Chapter 3 Part 2. A population sector is badly needed to house all the non-workers, so I continue building up that sector, while also working on discovering the resource nodes around the "northern" part of the Theta Crucis system. I also do the events in the Collapsed Food Production District, but leave the Science Ship there without clicking "Leave", to keep the storm from moving.
IXION is finally here, and I am more than a little bit in love with this game. Describing the game genre is a bit difficult, since it combines so much from so many games - but one quick summary would be that this is a Sci-Fi Space game similar to Frostpunk, but with a lot of aspects leaning on logistics, grid city builder games, factory and production games, and so much more. The storyline is simply awe-inspiring, and the soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a game.
I hope you will enjoy the series as we explore the story of the Tiqqun, as I try to guide it through space with presumably the last remnants of humanity, in the hopes of finding a colonisable exo-planet that we can colonise.

About the Game

IXION combines city building, survival elements and exploration, into a thrilling space opera as you explore the stars. Propelled onwards through a perilous journey, you are the Administrator of the Tiqqun space station, charged with finding a new home for humanity.
Keeping the station sound and flying will require a deft hand and strategic thinking, as you are constantly pulled between maintaining hull integrity, bringing in new resources and managing power consumption.
What choices will you make when confronted with impending disaster? What will you discover out there in the dark?

I like the pause method easier to follow the changes a bit at a time rather than a lot in 1 go

I like watching your layouts, your designs, and seeing your logic to everything. I also like seeing your probe method. I also like seeing the tooltip in the building menu. I often pause as you swirl around in that menu to see the tooltip. If you're just waiting for things to manufacture, to be built, researched, or resource to be collected from space, and you're not actively doing something, I don't mind a pause/jump cut. As I mentioned on a previous video, I was sad to see you had a domotic quarter built, and we didn't get to see you click it and build it. This was because it was the first of that item you built. If you build 3 more of those off camera, and point out them out after, I think that would be fine. There's a slang term, "you don't want to know how the sausage is made" which means most people don't want the gory details. In this instance, I do want to know/see how the sausage is made, but I don't need to see it being made once I know the how of it. If that makes sense. On another note, I would not leave your cargo ships idle. I know you're worried about clogging docks, but you have plenty of room for stockpiles. Even if stuff goes to the wrong dock and has to be moved to another sector. It should be quicker for movement inside Tiqqun than your ships flying around, so you should save time by keeping them all active all the time. There's thousands of cryopods and water, so you can maybe leave those in space until you're about ready to jump, but the other stuff should be gathered immediately. And, if you don't keep cargo ships active, your mining ships should all be active as long as there's something to mine. On a positive note, you have tons of resources! And you're doing the best of anyone I've watched so far. :) Great job! :D

Thank you so much for this very nice feedback! And also thank you for your call out to me on Reddit. 😄 The reason I leave my cargo ships idle is this though: Yes, I have space for stockpiles. But once something is on board and in a stockpile, unless I have space to build another stockpile to move it, I might find myself in a very bad position where I can't reorganise sectors, because I have nowhere to put things. So I leave things in space until I need it, and manage my fleet until I have all my sectors laid out the way I want them. Still working on that project. 😄

That makes sense about the cargo ships. :) I'm just used to games where your little workers are always working. ;) As mentioned in another comment, you're doing fantastic in this game! It would be nice to see the resources inside the storm and the POI's in there. And if it is possible to get to them either with the Tiqqun or any of the vessels.

There's an amazing functionality built in the game when you want to jump forward, BUT at the same time it allows your viewers to see what's happening. It's the three little arrows in the bottom right corner ya know :D

One thing that I think some players may want to consider is revealing and then colonizing the planet in this bit of the sector before the storm moves. That way it works along generating its maximum science over time (like 120 I think?) while you are hanging out in the other half of the sector. Then once the storm has moved on you can send a ship back and get all that science that is waiting for you. One more small optimization: I think there is one remaining tech for your science ships you don't have to generate extra event-related science. With so much science available on the map, it might be good to get that while you are storm-locking your science ships. Great video as always.

Problem is - the moment you're done delivering the supplies and colonists to the planet, that triggers the storm movement... It is, however, one of the suggested paths in my guide to survive the storm, as that is what JD Plays did. So I suggest both my own route (leaving the colony planet for last), and his route (doing the colony planet as the fifth POI). Also, I decided that all the addtional tech upgrades I had to invest in for those extra 5% was not worth it. On a science event that gives 100 base, that would be 5 extra science (115 vs 110 which I get now), so I would have to have to do a LOT of high quality science missions to get that to get back in surplus.

@@Caledorn Great points. I watched the ch.3 guide yesterday evening, too, and it was fantastic as per usual! If you're sticking around in the system to collect resources anyways, I suppose the colony waiting makes no difference in the end! Looking forward to the playthrough's continuation!

Fantastic job you're doing on this series with lots of really useful tips along the way . As for the questoin you posed only skip when absolutly necessary as i feel it's about the journey and not how fast you reach the final destination who knows if we will even get there but what i can say Administrator is that I'm not loosing trust in your leadership. For now 😁

Yeah 😂 I will eventually research those though, as I plan on having just 2 drone bays on the Tiqqun. One in Sector 1 and one in Sector 4, to cover all sectors that way.

Use the pause method so that we can see what is going on. Please. Hmm... just noticed that you need to defrost 2000 crypods, which will push your ship population over the safe limit. Hope that you find somewhere to dump some colonists.

Sorry for late response here. Too much work 😂 I think I'm all good with the population sector! And will keep repatriating my colonists 😄 I just need to be careful to not go above 5k population, as I am not sure if the 5k pop bug is fixed - and if it is, I'm not sure if it applies retroactively to old saves..

If you could get your food sector to have food + recycle specialization 2, it synergizes pretty good. Need to line most walls with mushroom walls, wasn't that hard to reach

Get train and the hospital. Extra stability and you can stop building the small clinic. As for the drone bay. I dont think its very useful. I had no problems whatsoever getting stuff to 5 districts.

I don't mind seeing any aspect of the game its interesting seeing you reason on where to build and why, maybe the mining can be cut out, how did you decript the messages? Did they give the cypher somewhere in the discord?

It's Caesar Cypher +23. Someone tipped me about it being Caesar Cypher (which I should have caught myself...), and then it was just a matter of typing it into a Cypher converter and testing numbers to find the correct offset.

@@tempy2440 I agree with what your saying and was more so thinking of skipping the bits (time permitting, because editing is no fun) where it is simply waiting around for resources, probes, moving populations, or waiting for the construction/technology that is already queued. The design/planning process and story is prime content. Honestly, it's a let's play so if nothing is skipped, I'm fine with that too and still watching.
