Jackson Browne performs "Take It Easy" with #TheEagles and #LindaRonstadt.
“Take It Easy” is a song written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey. It was most famously recorded by the Eagles (with Frey singing lead vocals).
“Take It Easy” was The Eagles' first single, released on May 1, 1972. It peaked at #12 on the July 22, 1972 Billboard Hot 100 chart, spending 11 weeks on the chart that summer. It also was the opening track on the band’s debut album Eagles and it has become one of their signature songs, included on all of their live and compilation albums. It is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Jackson Browne later recorded the song as the lead track on his second album, For Everyman (1973).

LYRICS:
Well I'm runnin’ down the road tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy
Standin’ on the corner in Winslow, Arizona
With such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I’ve got to know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
But we will never be here again
Open up, I'm climbin' in
To take it easy
Well, I'm running down the road tryin’ to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover
She's just a little hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me

This was really great to see. Not only is this the original lineup of the Eagles (Randy Meisner, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon), but that's Don Felder, guitarist extraordinaire in the back. Then Leadon does the lead guitar part -- pretty well, too -- instead of Felder. (Leadon played lead on the original song by the Eagles.) Add to all that Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne, and it was really great to see. What a show!

I wish everyone could have lived through this period ("it's a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me"). Things were so different then, 1967-1972, relaxed, great music, and haven't been like that since. If you didn't live it, I'm so sorry for you.

I teach high school geometry and was subbing for the history teacher. The lesson for the day was the history and significance of 80’s rock and the influence of MTV. I graduated high school in 1981 and saw some the greatest rock bands ever live. I never saw the Eagles, Jackson Browne or Linda Rondstat. This was epic and was surprised that in a class of about 20 students 1/2 of them appreciated the bands that were featured in the documentary. I asked how they became familiar with 70-80’s rock and they said from their parents vintage vinyl. Long live rock and roll 🎸

At the 1971 Disneyland Grad Night.... We found a small empty outdoor arena to rest. There was a long long wait at the Matterhorn ride. Suddenly others sat down. Linda Rhonstadt with her silky tshirt as a dress appeared a few yards in front started singing. Future members of the Eagles were her backup players. Smokey Robinson also performed. I didn't know who they were then... And I think I'll remember this night for a long long time.

Most of the songs Frey sang were really duets, taking advantage of Henley's talented vocal accompaniment.Their music was so good, I had grown to accept Frey's mediocre vocals, especially when you know you're about to hear some of the finest hamonizing ever. It's sinful, that with the World-Class vocalists on this stage, that Frey was the one singing lead. With his writing talents, and quest to be famous; I believe he would have loved for the band to have been, "Glenn Frey's Eagles". But, Henley also enjoyed the fame, and wasn't about to let Fry takeover as the only bigshot. Frey's performance here, was a bit embarrassing when he tried to get a too cute on his part, in front of the legendary voices on the stage. How much more memorable would this performance have been, if they had split up the Verses among All of the legends on this stage?

It was Glenn Frey & J.D. Souther who lived in the apartment above Jackson Brown when they were playing music as a duo called “Longbranch Pennywhistle” Don Henley & Glen Frey weren’t roommates until after that. When Jackson Browne was writing this song, he got stuck with writers block half way through it, so he asked Glenn Frey to help him finish it. So it was Jackson Browne AND Glenn Frey who wrote “Take it easy.” 🎶🎸😎💕👍

No one knew who they were, and they come out with these impeccable, flawless live tight harmonies that the genre hadn't heard since CSNY. Many people love their music, but I'm not sure how many people truly appreciate the talent, and skill, and hard work behind the perfection of their live performances. And how great for Linda, and Jackson who were both an important part of the foundation on which the band formed, and flourished. Bookmark this one, baby!

Amazing group of musicians. Yet just a small sample of what our generation gave music. Just amazing!!!! AndvLinda is really responsible for the Eagle's. She was a comllete package. Looks, talent everything!!! You couldn't afford to buy a ticket to see this much talent together if it were today. 😂❤ bittersweet for this old rocker!!

One of the many things that I love about Jackson Browne is that he is a musicians' musician.he just loves playing music and he collaborates so easily and without ego with so many great musicians. He is always a joy to watch and listen to. I can truly say he's my favorite artist of all time because his pure love of the music always shines through.

Agreed. Not flashy/showy- always a bit shy on stage. Schmidt could sing high with power but not with the sweetness - or astounding range - of Meisner. And their bass parts took a huge step backwards. Randy’s bass playing was fleshed out, dynamic and extremely advanced - yet a perfect fit for the Eagles’ fairly uncomplicated chord structures. TBB came in to the Eagles as fundamentally a root-five player who improved by having to play Randy’s parts.

How much do you think the Beatles' Get Back ("Jojo left his home in Tucson Arizona") inspired this? Get Back was released the year before Jackson showed Glenn his version of this song that trailed off at "Well I'm standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona."

Knew a German guy ages ago who told me there had never been one single night in which he didn't listen to JB's music before sleep. That I did too. That I did too! JB is not only a poet, not to mention a singer-writer, but a prophet whose depiction of the existential vacuum in the modern world is rarely surpassed by many contemporaries in the industry.

After reading Don Felder’s book, and a few others, I can’t get a warm and fuzzy feeling about Frey, not withstanding his vocal/writing contributions. He was an egotistical bully, directly responsible for Randy’s less than amicable departure. The Eagles became the Don and Glenn show with a few other supporting musicians.

Jackson Brown Wrote the Song Take it Easy .. “Take It Easy” was mostly written by Jackson Browne, a non-Eagle,. Browne, a boyish and mournful young songwriter, started the song with an account of his woman problems. Out of the seven on his mind, he said, only one was a friend. The rest wanted to own him, or stone him
