Thank you for explaining pink tax, as someone who struggles with affording nice makeup I didn't know this was another thing happening in the beauty industry
@ebonyalexis322 жыл бұрын
While makeup is expensive, it is a luxury. Pink tax more of applies to more basic needs, such as cleansers, clothes, shoes, etc being sold at prices generally higher than the male equivalent &/or at lower quality for the same price. This is why I started buying gender neutral deodorant and men's shaving cream. If you look hard enough, this permeates beyond the beauty industry
@candace34932 жыл бұрын
Tbh the use of makeul as a luxury is debatable at best. For some, its essential depending on where/how they work. The pink tax has been around since women could buy products, or at the very least, since people could buy products for women. Up until scarily recently in the civil rights movement, women couldn't open their own back accounts. So while it may be amplified by inflation, the pink tax is as old as capitalism itself.

As someone with a chronic illness I'm super interested in checking out the podcast! If you guys ever have extra guests on the podcast I'd love to hear from a woman about her experiences since it can be so hard to get help and be taken seriously in terms of women's health. Women's health conditions are often under-researched, not taken seriously, women are not listened to, and not given proper medical treatment. For me personally it took over 5 years to have my chronic illness diagnosed and the whole time I had doctors suggesting that the severe pain I had was all in my head. Would love to have more light shed on this problem if you're open to it
@katiexwright2 жыл бұрын
i had surgery for a severely herniated disc last fall and it took me 3-4 months to get the proper medical attention for it. it only got worse and worse because i was just being treated for “back pain” even with me explaining in detail the sciatica / severe neuropathy i was experiencing for those few months. ironic nod to this video, my *german* surgeon was phenomenal (just 2 hours of surgery and i was walking normal afterwards. i still needed some opioids for the first few days, but i was able to use the stairs to do my own laundry, take showers longer than 2 minutes, and get in/out of the car without sobbing - almost right after surgery) my apologies for trauma dumping but you brought up a really !!!! good !!!! point !!!! how often womens medical concerns are overlooked. i also had a 20lb dermoid cyst on my left ovary/fallopian tube (which they also removed) a decade ago when i was 19. it’s insane how our pain (even as humans, gender aside) is just swept under the rug. my whole life pain was dismissed because i was overweight, but even when i lost 140lbs it didn’t change a thing when it came to doctors and how they approach treatment. heartbreaking 😤
