Just fitted the stage two pipes on my 2004 xkr after having the stage 1 pipes fitted some months ago. Did the same as you in the end, angle grinded the clamps off.

John, you're a patient type. I dread exhaust work! I've found short of using a sawzall, a little heat can be your friend when removing pipes/fittings, albeit with some caution.

I enjoy a good challenge but common sense should have caused me to see the date on the silencer and reach straight for the angle grinder😁

Nice video John, I've taken a different initial approach on my 04 XKR by removing the huge centre muffler only and replacing it with an X pipe I got off ebay. The sound has improved lots even with this one 'small' change. I'm sure if I also removed the 4 back boxes she'd be a screamer with only the Cats acting as mufflers! I bet she'd sound amazing in fact - so amazing it may even fail an MOT check LOL. 🤣🤣
@ToTheGarage3 жыл бұрын
Nice work! I may want to swap my centre box later, (But will keep some silencing there) as it will complete the array of pretty stainless under the car. Stainless 200 cell cats would be on my wish list but that would take some serious saving up for!

I have to say John that you have more patience that me. Only took me about 10 minutes to get bored with the clamps. I then resorted to the disc grinder and chopped everything aft of the X-box into short lengths. Dead easy to remove then! Anybody want to try welding this lot back together? BTW did you order your silver gloves from Metropolis? Joking aside, another superb video. Just wish you had done it before I did mine.

👍 I think they are more of a cream colour🤔 Ironically they are Undyed leather, which is correctly called 'Chrome leather'. Oh the irony😁 Without the scissor lift I know that the over axle pipe would be being chopped up. With the Lift, there is a 50/50 chance that I may have enough patience to extract it whole.

For what it’s worth, the area of a compressed circle is indeed less, becoming zero at the limit of complete compression.

John, Interestingly about 7 years ago I did what you are doing and failed, Why, well the pipes over the axle, they would not clear the free area. Sent them back to ??? and they said they were spot on in dia and shape, any way they sent them back but by then as the car was OK with the new sections they have been in storage. You may have peeked my interest to try again.

The new over axle is in two pieces so should🤞 be easier to fit.

Im not eaking it out I promise! In real time. I have already fitted stage 1 (temporarily) and wanted to do sound level checks for those interested in stage 1, before I take it off and complete the job. However Howling winds over the last two days mean that the DB sound level is higher with the engine turned off than my original standard system recordings😮 Anyway . Im not in a desperate rush as we are still in lock down.

OK I comment as I watch, a claw hammer is for woodwork, get a mans Ball Peen hammer
@ToTheGarage3 жыл бұрын
😁 I wondered who would pull me up on that🤣. I actually like the claw hammer in my car toolbox as its often useful as a disassembly crowbar. I actively selected it from my drawer, thinking (incorrectly) that I would be able to use it to lever the clamps open😔 I use a dead blow more often than anything else followed by the claw (it pulled out the whole of Olive the T2's interior (much faster than a screwdriver👍) Then the Ball peen. I have a Panel beating hammer but am not very good, or very keen, on doing bodywork. The Lump and the Sledge are exciting but exhausting. If only they were lighter😉
