I actually really appreciate the part about letting the people next to you know they can talk to you if they want. I travel once a year (on bus, though) and ever since I started doing it on my own and not with my parents, I always got curious about the now open empty seat that either of my parents would normally occupy. The problem is... no one takes that seat... ever. Every bus trip I remember taking was just me alone doing nothing, and the only two times it didn't happen, the first it was a girl who had no intention of making any kind of conversation (which is absolutely fine, of course. Just dissapointing... and slighty uncomfortable), and the second was the completely opposite. It was an old lady that would never run out of conversation topics, and she was incredibly nice too, so that one was good

One of my favorite short stories as a kid was "The Roads Must Roll" by Robert A. Heinlein, which explores the idea of replacing roads with moving walkways. There are a few problems with getting the walkways to work in a realistic sense (wind resistance at 65mph for one), but the story mostly revolves around a labor movement if I recall it correctly. Good read though.

One time on a flight back to my hometown for christmas with family, i was seated next to a sweet old man. He said he liked my hair (it was bright blue) and asked where i was headed, i mentioned the name of my hometown but not specifics. The airport i was headed to was an hour from my house and so i figured he'd ask where that was. Turns out he happened to be heading to the same town! I asked where in town since it was a relatively small one, and he lived about a block from my address though i never mentioned it. That was pretty cool. He seemed to catch on that i was young and it was my first flight so whenever an announcement came on, he'd make sure I heard it, and if the flight attendant asked a question i couldnt hear he'd tell me. I wonder what his name was, he was very kind.

So I’m gonna share my personal flight story. So I’m currently in the Philippines and I came from Canada. Keep in mind I’m just this short 14 year old. The flight from my city to the next was at six in the morning but we had to be there by three. My parents are telling me to go take a nap and they’ll wake me up but I’m like “ITS FINE IM OLD I’LL JUST PULL OFF AN ALL NIGHTER” so we’re in the plane by now and it was a good 1 and a half hours (you gotta take multiple stops if you didn’t know) and I was just thinking “WHY DIDNT I TAKE A NAP IM GONNA DIE!” So I decide to take a nap in the plane, BUT THIS UNHOLY LITTLE KID A FEW SEATS IN THE FRONT BEGGED HER MOM FOR ICED TEA THE ENTIRE FLIGHT!! I was trying to fall asleep but you hear a “I want iced teaaaa!!” and the kid kept it up for the entire flight. I was about ready to turn my Laptop into a makeshift bomb. Then I had a 14 hour flight, which sucked. I kept taking naps and I thought “ayyy I’m gonna wake up and it will be 30 minutes to landing” but I wake up to it saying “7 and a half hours left to go” so I’m just there having a low battery phone, a half broken laptop (I brought it with me to get it fixed) and I was sleepy. So I kept taking 30 minute naps which did nothing! The last flight was fine though, I slept the entire flight. Anyway, I doubt anyone will see this, but if anyone does see this and read the whole thing, thank you! Have a great day!

I know that animation of the plane just going straight-up to take-off at 2:59 was meant to be a visual joke, but there have been actual attempts to make jetliners that could more or less just take-off straight-up vertically like that. One example was the Hawker Siddeley HS.141, a concept/study from the 1970’s that would have used lift jets mounted in a row on either side of the fuselage (body) to take-off and land vertically. However, the concept never took off (yes the pun is intentional 👀) due to several factors, such as complexities in the control system, noise, fuel consumption etc., and the whole thing was cancelled without ever even entering the prototype stage.

I couldn’t ever fall asleep while sitting so i sat in the middle and i got the choice of sleeping with my head on my moms lap and my legs in my sisters lap or vice versa. They say they sleep fine when i do that but now that i think of it they probably sacrificed their comfort to let me fall asleep and get some rest. Oh and also if theres a choice with 4 people my dad will sit in the same aisle as us but most of the time hes in another aisle.

When i was little, i saw my moms passport photo and i thought she used to be a criminal or still was, so i acted really wierd around her until one day she asked what was going on and all i said was "i know you are a criminal!"
