Everything about this is me in 1998 at my senior prom. Yes, we actually went to the hairstylist and requested a version of this style, except the bobby pins had rhinestones. When I was in sixth grade, I had this frosty purple roll on eyeshadow from Claire’s that I wore to school every day for like a month. And girl I put it allllll the way on, from my lids to my eyebrows, and I rolled her on THICK. Like six layers thick. In the dim lighting of my peace-sign string lights and lava lamp, surrounded by all my inflatable pillows and 39 spice girl posters, (all of which were ripped out of Tiger Beat), it looked frosty and lilac and perfect. I basically thought it looked exactly like Jamie’s eyeshadow in this video. And I don’t know if maybe my lighting was off or if it oxidized, but one day my P.E. teacher pulled me aside and she asked me if my mom was ok with me wearing my eyeshadow like that, and if she saw me before I left the house. I immediately went to the restroom, and in the cold, harsh, unforgiving fluorescent light of the middle school girls bathroom, I looked in horror at this BRIGHT NEON HORRIFIC purple eyeshadow smeared and caked all the way up to my eyebrows like a friggen circus clown and took my fingers and furiously started trying to rub and blend it in. I don’t know how I went that long with nobody telling me, or without looking in any mirrors besides my bedroom, But I’m grateful she did. Thanks Ms Worley. I owe you one.

Jennifer Love Hewitt wrote for one of those. It actually meant a lot to those of us from my small town, because she wrote about Nicole; a girl we (from my home town) grew up with who got diagnosed with cancer. She was a huge fan of Party of Five and got to spend a day with the cast through the Make a Wish Foundation. She became friends with Jennifer Love Hewitt and they kept in touch up until Nicole left us. The cancer won. She was 14. Didn't even get to finish grade nine. There was a memorial page in that years yearbook dedicated to her, sharing her Party of Five pics beaming away. I think she would have been really touched to know Jennifer also paid tribute to her in a Chicken Soup book.

TheClairei I *LIVED* for butterfly clips! Where you got like 10 for $2- & you had to have pairs of *all* of them... Some even survive to this day- I died a little inside when I accidentally crushed one a couple of months ago. I had the diamantés with the Velcro on the other side, which I wore to graduation (in 2001)... & I brawled with my mother about how many I wanted on... it was fun taking them out at the end of the night.

Those perfectly carved out n twisted 1 inch sections up to the crown like white girl corn rows was my best hair ever (the bomb!!) before the frenchbraid messy bun everythings of the early 2000s stole the show! Back in the day when scrunchies were necessity as much as that waisty-windbreaker... bc you just never knew bout the weather or when you'd be overtaken with the sudden urge to switch it up with an ugly ass, folded over, limp noodle of a bun. Bonus style when you feel like you've had enough temporarily! Ooooo! Or the massive tweakers nest hair barrettes with spirals and sheer lacy crap and like 13 other things going on.. Samantha P we went for photoshopped back then too. It was bad photoshop though. Our face was smoothed to one color and it didn’t match our neck. I caked so much foundation on, I was trying to fill my forehead up to the level of my zits and mole 😂 and I wore enough liner and mascara that I had to apply it only once a week. Marilyn Manson could have been mistaken as my sister 🤭
