As a french archer, I enjoy Uukha A LOT since 2012. I am so happy you review them ! If you are impressed by those EX1, give a try to XX (super sweet) or VX1000 or even VX+ if you can, super super fast, but physically demanding. They will probably blow your mind.

I have the Uukha Irbis which is essentially the vx1000 but designed for shorter risers (19"). They are slightly cheaper coming only in 5# increments instead of 2#. the x-curve profile is amazing for speed and I love the unique feel for the draw. the last inch adds very little weight which makes it feel a bit like a let-off.

@@mrnice752 my limbs finally came in, cv-9h ilf limbs, 55# @ 30". shooting 580 grain arrows just over 200 fps. Sid told me not to go under 500 grains. I tried with a lighter arrow (530 grain) but the limbs are louder. I'd rather have the energy be pushed into the arrow rather than stressing the limbs. the feel of the borders is indeed similar to the irbis, but the performance is at least another level or 2 above. I'm surprised at borders recommended brace height of 6.5", seems rather low to me, but it works amazingly well with very little tweaking. It does NOT like to be lowered in draw weight however. Using the Gillo GT riser, reducing the weight will increase the limb noise to uncomfortable levels.

This is a great situation for me, a legend reviewing the bow I chose, I appreciate your time. I bought my first modern recurve this spring. Uuhka limbs on a Gillo GT. I haven't found the limbs unnecessarily tight in the dovetail on the gt. Having only ever shot vintage equipment before this I had no comparison aside from the 40 to 50 year old bows i've been collecting. I continue to feel I made a good choice. Thank you for your impressions and your expert, objective, perspectives.

I'd like to see you do more with the Gillo riser and the Uukha limbs. Just bought my first set of Uukha limbs, (sx50) after my SF Carbon composite limbs went bang, and even an aged novice like me, could notice a MUCH smoother draw or lack of stacking. Felt weaker than my composites, but are in fact much faster as my site marks needed raising considerably. A lot is learnt from your films, thank you.

Well, you're clearly doing somehting right - every item on the Amazon links you posted is already sold out 👍 As ever a fascinating presentation: I'm figgering my next big leap (from a 26lb trainer bow, thinkin' about a forged riser), while you're counting percentage points of efficiency improvements for limbs at a 40(+)lb draw weight I doubt I'll ever attain. Aaaaaand yet - every time I watch, I learn new things, and each new thing shines a light on the next step I should take. Today's learning (in light of my newbie/uncoached/novice purchasing ponderings) was about the limb adjustment options that can be built into a riser. For me - this is simply the best archery channel on KZbin. With every upload you're adding substance to a very practical reference library with serious built-in longevity.

getting a pair of these is on my list of things to do in 2021. mind you the more expensive uukhas like the irbis or vx1000 have what they call x-curve profiles which are similar in look to the hex6 or maybe even hex7's can't say how they compare in performance, but they're definitely faster than conventional limbs and have the signature "let off" feel but not as pronounced (tried a mates covert hunter and a part of me died that day...)

Great review and explanation of testing method. I like to look at lower cost alternatives because of budget. I shoot barebow and ILF recurve for hunting so I also look at grains per pound with my arrow setup. I bought a set of Samick Discovery R3 Carbon/Carbon long limbs for my hunting setup on a 17" riser for a 62" bow @ #45. I am shooting 9.2 grains per pound arrows and getting 215 fps. Maybe not apples to apples but it looks like you are around 8 grains per pound arrow weight. It would be interesting to see a true comparison between the Samick Discovery R3 limbs at an even lower price point ($200) to the mid/higher priced limbs. Interesting that the Samick limbs give the same vibration feedback as the Uukha limbs, no high end vibration but a noticeable low end shock. Thanks for all of your efforts in putting this information out there.

I own these limbs and I had to sand the bolt grove to get it to slide on my Gillo G1 riser so it being loose is probably from when the owner fit them to his riser. Properly set up they are great and definitely a superior product especially at their price point. I love them and quite frankly am not aware of any limbs that are superior at any cost. Also as a simple observation your groups were much tighter with the Uukas. Might just be you were getting warmed up but to my eye much tighter grouping.

Both companies measure at the same draw length. WIN&WIN measures draw weight using 26.25" to the pivot point, with the tiller bolts halfway out, according to messages with their support team and the WIAWIS manual. That is the same as how UUKHA measures draw weight and length. The tolerance is 0.5lbs for WIAWIS limbs and 1.0lbs for UUKHA, so for identically marked limbs there could be a 1.5lbs difference between the two brands if one pair was a the high end of what gets past quality control and the other was at the low end.

My EX1 EVO2 limbs are also a loose fit on my Win&Win riser until the bow is strung. It seems to be more an issue with limb bolt diameter , distance from the dovetail to limb bolt, and even the size of the detente pin. They fit perfectly of an older SF riser.

One other thing, the EX-1's don't have the super recurve, thats in the top of the range version, and they do give that let off feeling.... Great limbs though, and Uukha do recommend that they are run on at least the medium limb bolt setting, but again thats on their own riser.

I have the same limbs, I changed them from W&W Inno Es Power (which I bought from Amedeo Tonelli on eBay, It is signed too). I like them very much. Thanks alot for the review Jake. This kills some of the myths out on forum right off the bat. Win&Win ,MK archery (Korean) insist on measuring their marked limb weight at 26 1/4” AMO draw. That's why same set of marked 40 lbs marked limbs turned out so differently. I guess Uukha is messured at 28" draw AMO just as Hoyt limbs are. So going from WNS,WIN&WIN you need to buy 2 lbs heavier marked limbs to avoid bottoming out of tillberbolt setting.

@@ivanrossi6481 Look at we know WIN&WIN are messured at 26" draw. And according to Uukha page they are measured at 28" draw for medium bow and limbs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHiadIqde9Rphqc He shoots stiff grouping on bareshafts. Same setup as win&win. That's because of lower draw weight. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHiadIqde9Rphqc He adjust the tillerbolts to increase the draw weight 1 turn and now the bareshafts land closer/close to the fletched. So limbs are 1-2# weaker. That relates to the AMO draw weight diffrences between WIN&WIN and Uuhka wich are 2" inch appart.

Hi Jake, another great video, thanks. Its very interesting (and useful) to see your meticulous approach applied to limb comparison. If you enjoyed the smoothness and speed/efficiency of the bigger recurve, i would definitely recommend you check out Border Archery limbs! If you aren't already familiar, they make some incredible kit. I have no connection to them, but would say they lead the way in terms of innovation and performance in recurve design. Smoothness, stability, and speed/efficiency are all on a different level to anything else i have seen or tried from the big manufacturers. It would be great to see you comparing them to other top end limbs if you get the chance.

As far as I know, the tiller must be set to 0 on these limbs. This is a feature of Uukha brand. The two limbs have featured weight to compensate the tiller. Maybe I'm wrong but the low frequencies/wobbling you felt may come from that.

Yeah marketing on these made it confusing... according to their website it says "Ex1Evo² limbs are made of Monolith C Evo², with 25% carbon fiber content." they make it sound as if they use 25% carbon fiber and the rest is their Evo2 Monolith Carbon... then on most online archery shops such as Lancaster the limbs are marketed as "an all-carbon limb that's more dense than typical laminated limbs." I have owned a pair of these for quite a while and just recently found out they have glass fiber mixed into their formula on these limbs in them as well.

The VX+ use Uukha's HM (High Modulus) carbon - stiffer than their Evo2 carbon. 42 MSI vs 33 MSI (Million pounds per Square Inch). The Vx1000 limbs are 100% Evo2 carbon which is what the Ex1 limbs are made from. Hx10's are 50% & Ux100's are 85% Evo2. The other difference is that the VX+ & VX1000 use their Xcurve profile and the others are the progressive curve profile.

@@mathiashammar1 That's it isn't it, what's that other 75%? Is it less layers of carbon weave with more resin or are the carbon weave layers made up of less carbon fibres and more of some other fibre in the weave. Or has it got to do with the tow ratings for the weaves? Considering there's 4 common tow ratings and Uuhka have four different specs that might be an indicator.

I've been shooting super recurve limbs for a long long time now and I have to say you can be shocked at the speed difference you can see from limb to limb. Getting 210 FPS with a 415 grain arrow at 49 lbs otf. Same arrow on a standard limb at 54 only gave me 201. Design and materials can be a game changer!

@@JakeKaminskiArchery Thanks Jake , I understand the shooting time would be extensive for such a comparison, but it seems that if a limb design that is faster and just as consistent would have the big companies developing them as well. I have a friend that has shot the Border limbs for awhile and yes they do store energy well and are fast but very touchy to tune and shoot . He has since gone back to a conventional type limb. Totally random question... just a fun hypothetical... if you had some random riser, any riser, let's just say a 27" Gillo GT in red. Let's say you were setting that riser up to shoot some archery discipline, let's just go with barebow. When doing your initial setup, if you could choose between these #40 Ex1Evo2's and another set of limbs, let me pick something totally at random, like maybe a set of #42 Gillo GTL-88's, which limbs would you lean towards?

Since you have a draw board setup for your riser flex testing, could you potentially do draw force curve mapping of limbs as well? This would help replace "feels smooth" with actual data, right? Something like plotting 1" increments until about 26-27" and then 1/4" increments through 30 or 31" (since that would cover both the "clicker zone" and "stacking").

Jake -- sorry .. another Q .. As a scientist and archer .. you seem to be hitting a paradox . You say the limbs are faster BUT had to increase their # to get bareshaft tune. You eventually got bareshaft tune by increasing the ' draw weight. So with similar draw weights you got bs tune BUT faster fps .. this is a paradox -- if the fps is higher then they should tune weak! so need to reduce the # OTF .. Doesn't make sense. This is NOT a criticism of you ore ither limb design but a genuine scientific Q :)
@JakeKaminskiArchery
@JakeKaminskiArchery 3 жыл бұрын
You are conflating a few things. Outright speed is irrelevant if the bow isn't tuned. I can go up 10# in weight with the same arrows and have them be weak and have a higher speed but that's not how to shoot a bow. Comparing a tuned system to another tuned system with the same components as I mention is a fair comparison. At the same weight they tune the same and one has a higher speed. I assume this is due to more of the stored kinetic energy being transferred to the arrow for whatever reason. Higher speeds don't mean weaker, how the energy is transferred during the power stroke (and when in the power stroke) during the release is where speed comes from and how the spine breaks down or not.
