This was a fun & entertaining post which I enjoyed so much since I lived for almost 5 years in Charlotte during the 1980's. HOWEVER, nothing you described nor visually documented existed then. (except NASCAR) It's amazing just how much that city has changed & grown! But of course, it's always a pleasure to view your travel reviews along with the amazing food commentary. Years ago, I did a Spartan Race where I literally ran up and down a mountain. After the race, I ordered a cheeseburger from the ski resort. Normally it would be a 4/10, but on that day and moment it was a 10/10. Agree with you that doing something hard and strenuous makes the food you eat afterwards much better.

Midwood smokehouse is one of the best places to stretch your dollar. Four proteins and two side dishes for $33 is an incredible deal. I might say it’s the best barbecue deal in the entire country.

So I moved from Charlotte to NYC and have been to many of the places you've listed, as I lived in Plaza Midwood. Walking distance from Supper Land is a coffee shop called under current coffee, I think this shop is better than every single coffee shop I've been to in New York. Not Just Coffee and Undercurrent use the same roaster, night swim, which is actually collaboration between the two brands. Next time your down there, you should also experience common market, which is a bodega, but the thing that differentiates from NYC bodegas is that in Charlotte its common to buy beer/wine at bodega and drink it on the patio.

@@Jamesnu Next time you pass through. You should also grab a beer at Common Market (there original location is across from under current, but they have them in other neighborhoods). Patio bars are a big thing in Charlotte. Common market is essentially a bodega (they serve sandwiches during lunch) and sell beer/wine like any other bodega/convenience store. The difference is that its legal to sit on the patio and drink it.
