My thing with Billie, she's probably right. An influencer will do exactly what they need to do, take photos, videos, etc. in areas that otherwise wouldn't have been photographed. It probably feels like being in a small space with fans rather than mostly peers like it used to be. And it's probably frustrating that the safe space you had is now filled with people who are now in a way forcing them to be "on".

100% with you on the whole tictockers being unprofessional. I used to work and somewhat communicate with celebrities directly and we had a strict policy of no pictures and no asking for personal information/contact whatsoever even if they seem friendly and willing to give us that info. It's unprofessional and quite frankly pretty rude in my opinion. But then again, most of those influencers didn't get famous from being professional during work or events so it wasn't that big of a surprise when a bunch of them act like heathens.

I love your take about professionalism. I think a lot of celebrities can't stand the influencers, because they never ask permission to start filming the celebrity or just go right up and try and pose for a selfie without asking. You don't really see the celebrities act like that with fans. They know the difference between fans and clout chasers.

I’m sick to death of people normalizing the idea that people (including celebrities) are just props for their content. I recently watched an older Kiki Channel video where she was ranting about a situation where Miranda Lambert stopped a concert to call out a group of women that were taking flash photos like right in front of the stage-basically having the singer as a background prop for their photo-calling it disruptive and inconsiderate. I just don’t get where people’s heads are at
@Merilly
@Merilly 10 ай бұрын
While I generally agree with your point (and I'm glad to live in the EU with much stricter rights to privacy and rights to your own image), the example provided will have to require some context to truly condemn it. First off, was it forbidden to take photos? Was it allowed to take photos but forbidden to use flash? Were the two people posting the photo as content? Were other people disturbed by this or made part of the photo against their will? Was it just once or done repeatedly? Because if it was allowed and they only took one picture to have a memory together of going to a concert while taking care not to be rude or hurting anyone in the process, then I feel it's a bit different and can't be considered using anyone as a prop but rather just having a memory of a fun and unique experience together. Once again, this all depends on a lot of circumstances. But taking photos together with a celebrity in the background at their own concert has been around way longer than social media. And to me it depends a whole lot if a single photo was taken (or maybe even 3 or 4 in quick succession to ensure they're not blurry, etc.) in order to have a private souvenir or to abuse someone for clicks and likes. Once again, it's dependent on whether taking pictures is even allowed of course. It's also a different matter if it's a concert or just meeting someone randomly on the street. To be clear, I'm not saying it's automatically right even if it's for private purposes. But the whole thing needs to be viewed in context as well. Taking some photos at concerts when it's not forbidden isn't necessarily disruptive or a bad thing. I can't judge this particular situation either. I also deem it worse if someone is constantly holding up their phone to block the view. But a commemorative photo for private use with the celebrity in the background of their own concert, given it's allowed and no one is being shoved or otherwise harmed nor included in the picture, is a whole lot different than using someone as a prop for clout. Celebrities have a right to privacy of course. If their rule is no photos (or no photos with flash), then that needs to be respected. Rules are rules after all and they can decide that for themselves. I just believe such an instance needs to be viewed with some nuance before reaching a conclusion. If photos were allowed, then they can't complain people will use the chance to have some tangible memory together with a friend. This is not at all unusual for people to do and is not rooted in disrespect or treating them as an object. A line always needs to be drawn naturally. A crowd is not always the best spot to take a picture together. Permission is also necessary. Private use and actually uploading pictures to the internet is another huge difference. The time and place naturally also matters. A celebrity having their own concert is often seen as an appropriate time to take a picture. The press tends to be around if the celebrity is important enough and if it's allowed, then I can't say anyone can complain about a single photo as long as no one is interrupted. I totally understand the frustration if people are posting all their antics however. Especially on TikTok but also KZbin and other social media to some extent. People are losing more and more respect for other people and are indeed not treating them as humans anymore in many cases. Interviews with strangers who don't consent, filming without permission and then posting it for clout, etc. is becoming more and more rampant. And even if some of it is technically allowed in many countries doesn't make it okay. Filming public performances, even if done by the performee themselves, where the audience and public isn't blurred out isn't okay. Yes, they may be allowed to in the US for example as it's often allowed in public spaces, but it still doesn't make it any better. The same can also be said by posting interactions without consent. Yes, in some cases these are used for legal purposes and if legally obtained, then go ahead. But posting them online and actually leaving random people open to be attacked over every little private argument is indeed nuts. While some people may say someone insulting someone viciously for example deserves to be publicly called out, we also all know that the internet has a dark side that goes far beyond simply condemning behavior with reasonable words and repercussions. And exposing someone to such danger, even if they've made a mistake, sometimes even committed a crime, isn't at all advisable nor proportional to what was done in a lot of cases. Sure, some crimes deserve to be heavily punished in a legal context and maybe even made public, but threatening someone's life isn't appropriate. Especially when conclusive evidence may not be presented. A proper legal prosecution is a different matter which can be deserved but public persecution has to be viewed critically because people still have a right to privacy, not all things need a public opinion in the first place, and people also tend to forget that some things are better solved privately before it unnecessarily escalates. Just because some things are legal doesn't make them okay. Gathering evidence for crimes within legal means is fine. But posting it all won't even help in many cases unless someone is exposing a scam by another creator for example with the goal to prevent more people from falling victim to it. Many people are also not at all conscious of the potential consequences of their "content". Nor the fact that some of it can be seen as harassment, bullying and so on. There's a reason some of these things are forbidden in other countries. Some of the content is downright criminal too. Like a huge amount of these "pranks". Or doxxing. Things certainly have to be viewed with nuance. Not every drama video is necessarily deplorable as long as it sticks to facts which aren't exactly private information. Not every photo at a concert is objectifying anyone. And so on and so forth. What we can definitely observe however is what you already said. Many people viewing others as props to their content or even as content by themselves. A dangerous trend which has affected many innocent people and harmed them. Be it emotionally, mentally or physically. Sometimes for life. The general disregard for privacy is a problem and TikTok is taking this to extremes. Far more so than most other websites. To the point where people aren't asking themselves anymore if just because they can do something, they also should do it. I believe the US and many other places need an update to privacy laws. While some may shout "it's my freedom to film anything I want!", there is also the counter argument that people should have the freedom not to be made an object for clout against their will just because they are out in public. Because most of us need to go to public settings and having anything you do potentially uploaded without your knowledge and consent is humiliating and quite frankly taking someone's control over themselves away from them.

I think it's easy to call it a copy, but there are so many stories of dads and daughters bonding over the whole situation. ESPN ran a whole segment about it with different families. @@jess_ismore*No. It had way too much likeness to the original.* Cetaphil is affiliated with a bigger brand and not dumb. @jess_ismore
@jess_ismore 10 ай бұрын
@KaeMaiden you wrote a lot, but it's not necessarily true. Especially the legal stuff. Plagiarism has to do with academic work and is not relevant. Copyright wouldn't even necessarily apply when looking at recreating a concept. (Here, copyright would apply if they took the actual content and used it without permission or used actual wording/ script.) Copyright protects created works and their recreations (physical duplications of art or photos, physical copies of DVDs, scripts, lyrics, even sometimes melodies or chord progressions, etc.) and focuses on who is allowed to profit from, distribute and use the works. It does not cover people/ companies using generally similar concepts. Think about how many TV shows have the same "don't do drugs" episodes. The concept is the same.

The whole thing with Billie Eilish is so stupid and silly. For one thing, she was having a private and personal conversation. In that conversation with someone else, it was no one else's business what or who they were talking about. Besides, everybody hates TicTocers. They should just be used to it by now.

Temu ran that same ad in the super bowl last year, and constantly since then. The thing that makes me feel like I'm going crazy is that I am 100% sure that it was originally pronounced TEE-mu, And they changed that commercial and others that they run all the time only a few months ago to say Teh-mu. The first time I heard it I googled to see if anybody else noticed, and I couldn't find anything.

the smell from the veneers or the clip-on teeth/covers could be potentially from bad hygiene? Like they don't feel like they need to brush or use mouthwash anymore because they have "perfect teeth"? I have a retainer for after I had braces, and I was instructed to clean it with a toothbrush + toothpaste every time I take it out in the morning etc. So are people not cleaning the clip-on teeth/covers and just popping them on with residue from food, bacteria etc.?

Still can't wrap my head around the veneers thing. I had to crown one of my molars after my old dentist mangled one and knicked the other behind it. So imagine the tooth sensitivity from a freshly installed crown, plus the scratching from a weirdly filed edge next to it, and imagine trying to eat or drink properly when one of those two problems flare up. And people do this to their whole mouth? For fun?

I agree with Billy. When you talk about a job and you're talking about producing something that's generally what people count as a job. It's like back in the early 2000s when people would talk about certain personas and it was like they were rich because they were famous. They were famous because they were rich. I think the question connects with if you are no longer on that platform, would your absence be felt? Would what you are producing or creating no longer being available and have a negative impact on people? There's a difference between someone like this creator who provides information and general assistance regarding products, techniques, and somebody having 2 million or 6 million followers just because somebody wants to look at what they're doing or decides to follow them because "gee so many other people are following this person". Somebody on social media who just doofs around and is suddenly no longer on social media, the people who follow them would just find somebody else to watch doof around and that's why they're all so very concerned with "relevance ". In general, their absence would have no effect and therefore their presence can be just to take it or leave it kind of thing. If you compare what Billie eilish does, which is abstractly create art, to what a lot of those people who were there do well, all they do is abstractly attempt to market themselves with self-promotion. It's "look at me for the sake of looking at me" not "look at me because I have something worth looking at" 🤷‍♀️ I'm sure after a decade or so it'll all sort itself out. Everyone will have figured it out.

Its not that being a TikToker isn't a "real job," but most influencers are not contributing anything essential or positive to society and alot aren't really making any money either. When people say "real job" they mean doctors, teachers, fire fighters, police, garbage collector, etc basically anything genuinely essential to society. Kids used to want to be important things when they grow up, but now influencer, tik-toker, and youtuber are in the top 5 choices of young children. I'm sorry but a society where no one wants the important jobs necessary for our survival and instead everyone wants to be a TikToker will collapse in on itself like a dying star!
