It’s one of the biggest issues I always had with metal. Metal houses some of the world’s finest guitarists, but I can really only appreciate them in clean tone/minor distortion. That over the top distortion most metal bands have just takes away all the beauty for me. It’s just a garbled mess of notes at that point, but in clean tone they shine!

@jonathanhilliard9772 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't classify what he's doing as innovative in terms of jazz. The first thing most jazz musicians do is learn the pentatonic scale which comprises the bulk of his solo. When there are so many interesting new ways to play outside of what you'd expect, and even new ways to play tastier and more "in", I don't think that this is the direction for jazz to go towards. If you listen to jazz guitarists like Kurt Rosenwinkel, Gilad Hekselman, Peter Bernstein, Pat Martino (RIP) etc. you'll hear the many different corners of innovation and experimentation. No hate to this video or this comment, but jazz is going in so many interesting directions and to say that it needs to sound more like this video, a metalhead not really trying to play the jazz language... I don't agree. Elevator music comes from dumbing down generations and generations of musical innovations into something empty enough to be ignored. Even if you were to play the "status quo" of jazz, if you really did your homework, it wouldn't be elevator music, and even if it was it would be so beautiful and interesting that it would be too distracting for an elevator. Check out those guitarists I shared and let me know what you think!

This was the best YT suggestion in a long time. Children of Bodom's Everytime I Die all jazzed up? Yes!

Reminder. Don't drink yourself to death.

He knew what he was doing to himself the whole time too. "Hate Me" talks about being baptized in alcohol, the joke my friends had about joining the Hate Crew involved drinking an entire fifth of Jack Daniels in one go, there are so many lyrics where Alexi spoke of dying rather than changing his ways. He attacked the bottle (as well as other activities allegedly) as hard as he attacked the guitar. There was a passion in his playing and determination that can be a disadvantage in other parts of life. His love life sounded pretty rough too judging from other songs. Its so sad to see someone with that kind of passion trying to escape the world with intoxicants. Despite how adored he was, he chose to destroy himself. At least his music immortalized him, but I'll always wonder what could have been.

@@thrashandburn10221 same as lemmy from motorhead, a bottle of jack and 2L of coke a day, plus speed (thats what motorhead means - amphetamine/speed lover). people are very stigmatizing of these kinds of life styles when its what , if they actually enjoy it, love to do and people dislike that because....drug. whilst they all watch their shows drinking drugs, whether thats booze or a coffee or energy drink, so the double standards towards people who do indulge and enjoy indulging comes, it doesn't help them magically become 'better' now, which is what people want you to be. you eiither only have a drink of a drug, thats fine up to a point for them, or use another one and its 'they're an addict now' becomes their thoughts and stigma towards them. Ofc these are the same that will get smashed at a festival for 3 days on booze and wonder why they feel terrible after = you created your own alcohol WD's

One of my favourite things in music is when musicians from completely different genres join a band outside of their comfort zone. You end up with some of the most interesting sounds and compositions that way.

TBH Jazz and metal arent that far apart. So they would complement each other pretty well.
