Hey there! I’m a 60-something married dad who just discovered your videos, and I think you two are absolutely amazing! I’m so incredibly impressed by your courage and openness. What fabulous role models you are for young people who need this kind of support. My most sincere best wishes to you both, and thanks for sharing your life together with the world. Love and hugs!

How do I know this to be so??......my father was adopted from the age of 2 into a family that gave him all he needed to become the adult and loving father he now is to me and my other siblings. Single mom by choice here....I wanted a girl and did PGD genetic testing with gender selection, and had 2 girls and 2 boys (embryos). I put in 2 girls, got a chemical pregnancy. Froze the 2 boys for later. Next cycle, put in all 3 embryos without testing and ended up pregnant with 1 boy. I'm due next week. So, sometimes you want a specific gender, and unless you pay $$$$$ to keep sorting the embryos according to gender with IVF, you won't get what you want. There's no guarantee that when you put in girl embryos that they will implant and result in the live birth of a biological girl.

There are another option called embryo donation or embryo adoption, where you can adopt embryos from another couple who has went through IVF and has embryos left. This would of course be a form of adoption and the baby wouldn’t be biologically yours, but it would allow Shaaba to be pregnant with your adoptive child

My husband and I did IVF because of fertility issues, but we got more embryos than we were told it was possible/most likely. We were initially planning to take them all through time, but when we found out how many they actually were, we got scared and doubtful. I really hope they are going to make embryo donation legal in our country (Italy) because we want all of them to have a chance at life. I don't want to die knowing that one or two are still frozen there. A friend of mine did IVF too, and she said she wouldn't donate any embryos left, mostly because she would be too scared that that person and her "own" children could meet and have a romantic relationship. I would donate in a blink, without a second thought, to anyone from a relative to an anonymous couple of any gender on the other side of the world.

The three-person baby thing was a bit confused, but it was presented pretty confusingly in the media too. To understand this, you need to know a bit about mitochondria. Mitochondria are like little mini-organisms that live inside your cells and help them. The mitochondria are very important in the way cells use energy, you might have heard "the mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell". The mitochondria have their own DNA which they use to make more mitochondria and to make the tools they need for their energy processing job. That's all the mitochondrial DNA is for. Mitochondrial DNA doesn't code for much that's visible in the overall human, or anything you'd think about to do with relatedness in families. The only time you really notice differences in mitochondrial DNA is when something is very wrong, and the person is very ill because their mitochondria can't do their energy processing properly. Egg and sperm cells both have mitochondria, but an embryo gets all it's mitochondria from the egg and none from the sperm. In a "three person baby", you have the nuclear (main) dna from the two parents who will be bringing up the child, and the mitochondrial DNA from the "third" donor parent. This is useful when the parent who makes eggs has a mitochondrial disease. It allows that person to have biological children using their neuclear DNA without passing on their faulty mitochondria, so they can have a healthy child they're still related to. Taking mitochondrial DNA from Jamie wouldn't make the baby related to him in a way that would make much difference, because the mitochondrial DNA is only used for the way the cell uses energy.

@@carabrown6968 Mitochondria absolutely has DNA. It is separate from the nuclear dna and is passed from egg only to zygote, unlike nuclear DNA, which combines DNA from egg and sperm to form baby. Its a ridiculous concept. How many cis couples wanting children get told to adopt rather than having bio children, or only expand their family with adopted children?! As if fertility issues aren't hard enough to deal and live with, then comes along others judgement and shame to really smack you up round the head! Have your family however the heck you can guys. @@jamesdavison8177 totally understand your concern here. The same concerns were, and to a certain degree still are there regarding donor egg/donor sperm/donor embryo and egg sharing etc. This is obviously an extremely contentious and important topic, which I'm sure over time will evolve. It will take an awfully long time to be considered before used, especially in the UK where genetic modification is very regulated (for instance eye colour is one of the many genetic characteristics that can be chosen, but the UK don't allow it in fertility treatments, and genetic testing and its implementation is only currently for chronic health issues of the child that may be passed down from the biological parent/donor). If this will ever come to pass in our lifetime is yet to be seen, but I'm forever hopeful for the continual discoveries and improvements in fertility treatments, and pregnancy conditions, because so much of our creation and growth is still very much unknown.

People see adoption as this magical thing that fixes all problems, and don’t get me wrong, when it works it’s amazing, but it’s the perfect thing that we’re often led to believe. I’m not trying to put you off adopting though, I just wanted to throw in my opinions and experiences. 😊

I know this from a different perspective as the younger sibling of kids who were adopted and it turned out badly. My parents (bio parents of me) adopted my cousins because they were being abused by their parents, and they both ended up sexually molesting me, and one of them ran away at 16 and didn't come back, and the other got returned to the foster care system when my parents realized he was a danger to me. Turned me really against older adoption for a long time, and only gradually got to the point where I might consider becoming a parent to an older adopted kid. And one of my hard limits is that I want my older adopted kid to be my youngest child, preferably with a significant age gap between them and any other kid I have, because I was over a decade younger than my cousins and utterly helpless, and if I end up adopting a kid with similar issues to my cousins, I don't want them having access to a vulnerable younger child.

Ok this video is actually so insanely helpful, thank you so much. I am 15 and haven't even started on T yet, but I was concerned because I would really like to have kids later in life. Thank you so much for reassuring me, this provides so many more options. Thanks :)

@@mossisstumped why would you cry, that's not even normal. You should really see someone about your lack of emotional control (especially when you cry at something that is not even a tad bit emotional)

@@hamzaxx6722 , while I appreciate your concern, as someone who knows that at some point they want to have children and also that that may be with someone who is the same sex as them, I do in fact, find it "a tad bit emotional" that it may be a possibility in the future to have biological children with that person. It is something that I never thought would be possible and so to hear this so suddenly made me have a slightly emotional reaction. I can see how someone who this doesn't affect as much might not understand this, and maybe you are one of those people, however I think that this kind of news to a person like me seems like a perfectly normal thing to have an emotional reaction to. All the best wishes💕 ~SparkleyLemon

the last two options I hope to help develop once I finish my degree in bioengineering! Stem cell research and genetic modification are my passions, and knowing that couples like you guys would seriously benefit from that work, it makes me even more excited for the future! I do believe that to get the cells from Jamie for the final method, they dont need specifcally stem cells, there is a process to turn specified cells into nonspecified cells/stem cells and into other cells again. That process was developed only 3-5 years ago, and now it's being planned to be used to help infertile couples have children and help treat or cure genetic diseases, its just amazing technology and I wish people weren't so stigmatized against it.

@S011D Most biology professionals are 100% supportive of all kinds of trans people! Im surprised you haven't met more of us! All of the teachers who teach biology at my highschool were supper supportive of everyone in the LGBTQ and wouldn't take any bullshit from LGBTQ-phobic kids. They actually started a tradition at the school by putting LGBTQ Safespace stickers on their windows and almost every other teacher joined in soon after. They were my inspirations for going into biotech, gene therapy, and stem cell research, and I'm going to put those skills toward helping people just like they helped me through Highschool in an extremely religious town.

Hey, IVF baby here! Both my parents are straight and cis, but my mom had issues with her eggs so they had her sister donate an egg and my mom carried me! (It's the same thing you were talking about with using Jamie's brother as a sperm donor, just with eggs instead of sperm.) I just thought it was cool that other people knew this was an option! Every time I explain it to people they think it's this crazy miracle thing so it was fun to hear it mentioned so casually in this video! Also, I have 2 adopted brothers and totally love the idea of adopting older kids who got stuck in the system! Y'all are gonna be great parents when the time comes :)

Hello Darlings! Listen, I adopted my daughter, and being real, I can't imagine loving her more. I feel as though I gave birth to her! She feels that I am her only mother, and loves me without fail. She is so awesome, plus she didn't inherit some negative, biological issues that I have, one being PCOS. Adoption is not an easy process, but so worth the effort. Great video, btw. Love to you both!
