My husband's story is featured in The Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease Cookbook written by Ann and Jane in 2014. My husband went on Dr. Esselstyn's program as a 49 year-old father of seven who had two 99% arteries blocked in 2012. This weekend dh celebrates his 59th birthday with no meds and no heart events since he went "plant perfect". When Ann and I were emailing back and forth about our portion of the book, I reported that dh was medication free and had lost 75 pounds. She said, "That's good but you tell him NO CHEATING!" Everytime he's tempted I say to him "Remember, Ann said no cheating!" His favorite recipe is the Triple Decker Lasagna. He made it for me for Mother's Day and has made it three times since. I have spent two to three hours in the day cooking plant perfect for my family. It's my calling in this life. I'm glad I can do it and we love the food. We're still a little chubby because we like to eat, but my total cholesterol is 149 and his is 133! We're able to keep up with the young people and that's great! God blessed our lives with the Esselstyn's and enabled us to fulfill our missions in life. Their influence of their service trickles out to countless people they don't even realize.

Listening to Ann and Jane describe each recipe made my mouth water. I had to have my Oatmeal earlier than usual because I was so hungry. I cannot believe people continue to be so oblivious to the benefits of eating plants. It's truly mind buggling. Thank you all for spreading this message of health and hope.

This was another fun show to watch. Your family is almost like America’s family. Wonderful parents. Dad a hugely successful doctor. Children who were high level athletes. All working together to help thousands better their health and escape disease. Anyone remember The King Family from the 60’s or 70’s? They had TV specials around Thanksgiving with music and fun. This reminds me of the Esselstyn Family. It’s too bad this book was written for women. I’m a guy so I can’t buy it. 🥲 Maybe I could get it for my wife but she’s still fighting about going plant based. 🤷🏻

So, I have run five full marathons and countless half marathons and when I was almost done with my first full marathon some guy started running backwards at the end of the race and yells to his friend, "You're about to get Chicked." I saw RED. I not only beat his friend, I beat the rude jerk, too! Jane, I hate the term chick as well and your story is compelling about women and body image. And also Ann saying how she and Essy were sitting there watching TV during Covid and she would start salivating because she would hear the door rattle and she knew it was Jane coming with Brownies!!!! There was so much more I could have said if I had focused my comments on the Esselstyn‘s in general. For example, I had an eating disorder, bulimia, for well over 50 years. I overcame it four years ago, at 67, with the help of a whole food plant-based diet. In the interview that Rip did with Anna and Jane, Jane referred to the food head that even as an athlete ruled her relationship with food and body image. She acknowledged that a whole food plant-based diet took away the need to consider anything but eating whole foods that were plant-based. That was my experience, I no longer feared whole food carbohydrates (nature‘s appetite suppressant and antidepressant), after I read Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, which I practiced diligently, and that helped me leave my food fears behind. I told this story in my Amazon best seller, Aging Powerfully, which focuses on lifestyle modalities for vibrant health and longevity, applauding a whole food plant-based lifestyle as a game changer.

Yes women are the original care takers and we can make a bigger influence 😉 then we think. My father in law is 350lbs heavy and my mother in law still to this day feed the family a high-fat & protein diet. My mother in law is a cancer survival. It's sad to see that she has no back bone to push my father in law in the right track. 300 POUNDS !! and I know this happens in Many families, even mine. My husband doesn't want to change his diet, but I do not allow any meat, dairy, or egg in the house, I try not to argue but I definitely motivate. I hope to change his views soon.

I wish that I had had this information a few years ago ,before my wonderful father passed away suddenly with total heart block. He had always been CONVINCED that eating avocado, walnuts and olive oil was extremely healthy and ate them most days, especially inthe last years of his life after retiring. It makes me so sad that maybe if I'd known then what I know I could have convinced him that the Mediterranean diet that he eaten all his life wasn't the amazing thing he thought it was.😔

I really appreciate Jane talking about the guy wearing the no fat chicks shirt and how that made her feel as a female. We're close in age. As someone who's been overweight since puberty, I've experienced guys mooing when I walked past when I was in college. Not cool. Thank you for all you do!

Argh! Rip! Don't blame the victim...sigh... You cannot relate to this topic. Like most men, you gave what you believed to be wise words for what she should have done. Jane didn't need scolding. I think you owe Jane an apology for overstepping on his one. Thank you, Jane, for this book and all your wise words about no scales, calorie counting, or step counting. Dr. Fuhrman said I needed to weigh less than I weighed at the height of my anorexic stage. It took existing on an apple or a few crackers a day to get my weight that low. That's one reason I was so happy to find your dad's work. Now, I eat but have still been terrified to let the scale go up or down even a pound. After I put my scale in the trash, the food head and eating disorders that have been haunting me since age 12--that's 46 years--will finally end. I copied your words from the transcript and will put them on my bathroom mirror. Thank you. Thank you. Ann and Jane, you're my heroines.

Ann said to use balsamic vinegar on tofu for heart disease patients, but Dr Essy doesn’t allow tofu at all for people with active heart disease.
