I've been studying this form for so long, and yet nobody has teached me that this よう comes from 用. That simple detail was the key to finally comprehend this form. "My house cat has started to sleep on a dog bed just like a dog." The "my" is implied, I think. ようになりました sometimes translates a little awkwardly into English: "I came to" or "I became able to" (with a potential verb). I think we usually use phrases like "I've started to" or "now I can." The みたい has nothing to do with 見る, nor is it a -tai verb (this would be "I want to see"). It's more like "resembles" which in this case would translate as "resembling a dog" or more naturally, "just like a dog." This is the same as のように, which was discussed in the video. Excellent video, thank you for the explanation of ～用, I wasn't familiar with that.

Learning grammar like this can be a double edge sword. It is convenient putting them together and seeing the differences but it will be confusing at the same time.

I think of のよう as the suffix "-ish". He's a dog *_-ish_* person. I think of 用 as a made up suffix "-use". That's a cat *_-use_* litter box.
