I haven't seen this movie since I was four years old when it randomly came on the Disney Channel. I wonder how 4-year-old me would feel if he knew the next time I saw it would be 18 years later via Jarvis cosplaying the house in a "KZbin" thumbnail.

@@kiralonely SAME god getting my mother anywhere on time back when I lived with her was so hard. She was late for my own graduation dinner. I left with my family _without_ her because I had to be at the stadium for graduation earlier than she did to watch it so she wasn't ready in time despite my reminding her that we have a schedule to keep and I was incredibly annoyed about it.
@kiralonely2 жыл бұрын
@@roselover411 With my mom, it's always either I'm a little slow cause I have ADHD, so I'm a little behind schedule but I'm doing my best to catch up, usually speeding through doing things, but I also have OCD and have to periodically pause to double check I have everything, partially also due to the forgetfulness I get from my ADHD. She sees that as super frustrating. It's either that or she's behind because she zoned out or is busy reading and it takes her forever to pull herself out of it, which I understand, but sometimes she's having a conversation and puts off leaving to finish it, or puts things on hold to finish a video or something and then when I'm late or slow, she complains I don't value her time enough. It's so frustrating. Like, I am really trying, dude. But if I get aggravated at her when she's slow, she immediately pulls a "you're slow all the time" or "I was BUSY" or some shit as an excuse. She ALWAYS has to be right, good, and the hero in the situation. It's really frustrating at times. She's had lectures about me not respecting her time enough like 20 times in the last 2 years, while having such a tendency to be late that she jokes she's on "Bryant time" which is my stepdad's last name, and now hers, which Bryant time was a joke before they got married or anything because he's often late to things and usually by the same amount each time. Like he's in his own timezone. It's to the point that when she says she'll pick me up at one, for example, I generally tell my grandma she'll be here at two. Like, it's that common. But no. *I'm* not respecting *her* time, and she's allowed to be slow and late when I have things on a very tight schedule. *She's* allowed to complain, but if I *dare* to, then it's so hypocritical.
@roselover4112 жыл бұрын
@@kiralonely I did the same thing with visiting my nana. I started telling mom we were meeting at 1 even though we were really meeting at 2 because it was a *surprise* if she ever turned up earlier than an hour late. Nowadays her boyfriend doesn't let that happen. He's got her on a time table and he will leave at the right time to arrive wherever he's supposed to be. Granted, I don't LIKE her boyfriend, but at least her punctuality has greatly improved.

@@michealpersicko9531 yeah but the point is if they're going for a "house of the future" and dreaming up tech advancements, you'd think they'd make it futuristic and past where they were at the time. like, it's pretty integral to the whole smart house thing. but now you can see some of the flaws with the clunky tech being visibly dated while other things were more thought out (like the bedroom walls). that said, it kind of makes sense. it was relatable for that time and most kids watching it wouldn't think twice about it.

Okay this show just reminds me of that story "The Veldt" by Ray Bradbury. Anyone read it in English class? It's basically a smart house, and then there's this nursery that has like cgi moving walls and sound. Skipping some stuff, the parents decide that the nursery is a bad influence on their kids so attempt to shut it off. The children, in fear of losing the nursery and the smart home altogether, lock the parents in the nursery with the veldt scene (like a savanna or grassland basically), as per the title. Turns out the nursery crosses into real life and the parents are brutally devoured by the lions of the veldt (akin to the zebra the lions were eating earlier in the story). Ray Bradbury is a great author.

I can't believe Ben downloaded her with sexism v_v
@alygatorstereo4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree it’s messed up beyond belief, I see your point there. In a way, Ben was being influenced by his fathers views on gender roles so it’s completely believable in the sense that his character would believably do the thing. Ben’s dad raised him with his own ideals in mind like parents typically do. And who knows if Ben’s mother followed these gender stereotypes given that she married a man like him. Also, her and Ben clearly had some sort of close relationship meaning she was present enough to influence her son with her behavior while she was alive. Still, the movie was completely messed up. It was an original idea that could have made some interesting observations on stereotyping these two genders and their roles but instead was a train wreck of nightmare fuel & s*xism.

To be fair tho, he literally programmed her with what old sitcoms with tradwives to teach her what a “real mother” does and it ends up backfiring on him. Plus I think the house becoming more sentient and overprotective of Ben as if it were his mother isn’t that sexist imo, it’s really for the story’s “don’t overly rely on technology” and “you can’t replace family with technology” message. Idk just my interpretation

Don’t mean to sound combative, but I think there is a scarier Disney movie: The Black Hole (1979) This movie was Disney’s attempt to steal the thunder from Star Wars when it first came out. It’s not great but the third act does see the main villain go to hell sooooo I give it a Lobotomized Crew/ 10
