I had a friend-by-association whose "dad owned a bank" level of rich and I didn't know that til later but it suddenly made sense why he was always so anti-poor and annoyed with anyone struggling. I remember one day him seriously saying that welfare and gov't assistance shouldn't exist because AND I SERIOUSLY QUOTE "You always have an uncle or someone who can help you." And I didn't mean to laugh at him (he was upset by that) but I was shocked more than anything. I told him that my parents said "have a nice life" when I moved across the country at 18 and I only had one guy to depend on, I definitely had no money and was disturbingly close to being homeless. His unsolicited advice was essentially that 'I should make better choices' -- from the guy born into MILLIONS... how did I not realize this guy wasn't blindingly rich until later is honestly embarrassing.

For real my husband used to be this guy until kind of seeing my family and like seeing first hand what poverty is like 😅 he was like it’s a cloak of denial you’re aware of but you use to protect yourself from the idea that you don’t deserve the life of luxury you lead. I’m like dude you were born to a rich family you didn’t know and that’s fine it’s just lame when y’all go “I’m from the mud” or “pulling yourself by the bootstraps” just stop saying your middle class you have a courtyard and more than one house. My family was food insecure and I was homeless when we met and I sure as hell didn’t ‘pull myself up by the bootstraps’ I got fucking lucky 😂 and while I did work my ass off I would not had made it if it wasn’t for the support of many people. Once they kind of actually experience it and see they can’t just like fix it for poor people, like you give them the keys to your accounts they go “oh fuck” that sucks. This is all they pay you? This is how much your rent is for this place? Yes, yes it is. They go oh… and actually see how that affects everyday and the sacrifices and decisions you make as someone constantly living under duress kind of goes. Did you make an impulse purchase because you had a bad day or miscalculated? You may actually get evicted, be unable to eat, take out a predatory loan or who knows sell one of your possessions for much less than it’s worth.

I love how when he was talking about his upbringing in detroit he acted like a 2 bedroom apartment was OBVIOUSLY poverty. He didn't specify whether his family owned or rented, what kind of jobs they did or didn't have, or whether they had a meal on the table every day. I'm not saying that means he was rich, but he could very well have grown up middle class with that description. I think what he doesn't say is so telling. I know lots of people who grew up not knowing when they were gonna eat next, whether they would have housing, whether they could stay with their family, or whether they were even safe in their own community. If he truly went through something like that, I feel like he would be more specific than just saying he "came from mud".

His parents immigrating also doesn't mean they arrived poor. And I totally agree with you, if he really had a rags to riches story, he'd be singing it from the rooftops for clout. But Ghiorghiu is only 23 and did hustle wildly prepandemic. Now he's coasting but can't blame him.

Oftentimes they didn't even grow up IN Detroit, but in a nice suburb of metro Detroit (I say that as a person that has done both). I mean, he really could have come from a hard life but..... guys who put it like he does usually don't lol

I was ranting about this to my partner because I'm a Car Person. Lambos and other expensive cars are not investments. They depreciate in value as soon as they leave the lot. On top of that if you're a young man you're going to be paying way more in insurance. Unless you have a climate-controlled garage and can get a collector car of some kind, you're basically setting your money on fire and just signaling to everyone that you don't make wise financial decisions. I'm broke so I drive a 2005 Mustang. I drive it because I like it and because it's what I could afford. And I get a lot of compliments from both women and men on it. It literally doesn't matter how much your car costs, just buy what is fun for you and that you can afford (and yanno check the reliability ratings).

My brother is quite money motivated (less now than a few years ago) and it worries me sometimes when I see the pipeline of money motivated to conservative viewpoints etc. My family is generally very left and he still is kind of on the left side of the spectrum, but he watches the motivational talks of these kinds of people. He says the other stuff (misogyny, lgbtphobia, etc.) doesn't interest him, but looking at this guy it appears he got sucked into it eventually. Anyone got any tips on how to keep the conversation going on these topics?

If he's solely interested in the finances, you can also direct him to people who talk _solely_ about that. There are plenty of finance channels on KZbin that just educate people on the topic without all the extra stuff and who aren't going to try to scam their viewers. Also, if he's truly against the bigotry these people spout, point out to him that he's still giving them attention and bolstering their platform by watching them. You can't just filter out the other elements because any additional attention just gives them a bigger stage to yell things from.

About the 5x covid survivor thing I was quarentined 5 times after schools started up again (two of them overlapped) even when I wore a mask and stuff. I never actually had covid, but everyone in my family did at least once which in turn made me miss most of my freshmen and half of my sophmore year. I would fully believe someone if they said they had covid 3 or 4 times if they live in a family house like I did, but this guy doesn't seem to be the huge "I live with my younger siblings and family still" type, so my guess is he just ignored covid regulations and had to pay the price.

The trick is to spend your last $1000 on a really big drill. Then, you scope out your local bank - look out for folks with capes and/or masks! Buy my course (it's only $999!) to learn how to pay someone else as little as possible to think of an intimidating name for you and join my legion of minions- I mean, the "alpha bucks" community. Drilling into bank vaults (I remember the days when I only had my mama's $10,000 drill...) is totally how I earn my money still, so don't worry about whether banks have started upgrading their vaults to protect against hoards of desperate souls sent to them by my extremely basic and very expensive advice. Would I lie to you from my gold skull throne?

Also just putting it out there. It’s super easy to pretend to rich online. Like most of these dudes he could be doing the old “fake it until you make it” with drop-shipping and selling courses. It’s easy to take a photo in front of a random car and claim it’s yours or go to a open house and pretend it’s your house. I never believe a single word podcast guys like Sebastian say because it’s either fake or they are just rich kids who wouldn’t survive a day without their parents

We gotta just start being honest about these types of guys. I appreciate Jarvis being empathic and respectful but these guys are everywhere and they do real harm to real people. They put out clips like that out there for the purpose of making men feel insecure and inadequate so they can sell their course to them. That's where they make money, the subscription course and not on dropshipping. I'm pretty sure Coffeezilla has a whole video about how dropshipping puts people in debt and isn't at all profitable for like 90% of everyone who does it. Everytime I hear a guy say they made all their money on crypto all I hear is 'I ruggpulled some people and stole all their money'. People like this are bad people.

Man, seeing stuff like this makes me upset that people can act like this and get away with it, my dad was in prison for most of my childhood because the only way he could make money for our family was to sell drugs, and when he was gone, we didn't even have enough money to pay for gas to heat our trailer. Even now, 15 or so years later, I'm still living off of $200 a month, and the fact that people can prey off of desperate people like me is crazy and sad to think about.

from my experience, seeing it happen to family, people who come from a poor family and suddenly get a lot of money while also being immature, tend to spend it in useless things and not really think about the future. This guy seems like he thinks his wealth is gonna last forever and thus just uses it right away instead of taking a step back and putting it somewhere else in case his business fails or he loses everyhting in crypto. Like, what if dropshipping becomes illegal? what if tiktok shuts down? he's not thinking long term and that's something you see a lot in influencer and young self-proclaimed business people
