Orange pineapple inspection. Thanks Gary. Your content convinced me that I could handle a complete tear down and restoration of a 1957 chassis. I successfully replaced the clutch guide tube, accelerator guide tube, e-brake guide tubes and fuel tube with your help. Lots of rust. Also deleted the heater tubes and corresponding chassis holes. All patched up and confident moving onto priming and painting. I always look forward to crack-a-lackin’. SERIOUSLY, THANK YOU!

I am all about the orange pineapple engine tear down! Most folks run motors until they're gone. It would be cool to see how everything looks on a runner that isn't ready to be put out to pasture. You have a good grasp on motor building and explain stuff in a great way. Keep it coming!

I'm currently doing an upgrade on my motor. Had to replace the rings but I decided to go bigger. My motor, which I took care of over the years I bought a 1914 longblock NEW in Dec of 2004, received in March of 2005. We cracked it open, all still looked great after 31000 miles. Only slight ware was on the lifters. So I'm glad I decided to go bigger on the cc's

I believe it’s a great call to take care of Jawbreaker and retire it for a bit. With the experience you have gained on the Sickxty you are now in a better position to give Jawbreaker the TLC it needs. It would be great to film the teardown and freshening up of the motor. He’s a fantastic person! I spoke with 5-6 different builders before we spoke. He took the time to understand what I needed and then custom tailored the trans to meet my needs. Trans work’s beautiful.

Gary, your VW content is great. Like I said before, your work helped me get going on my Ghia. It sat for months. I would work on it and find more bad stuff and my stomach would turn. I’d walk away for a while. I decided to just concentrate on one part at a time. I rebuilt the chassis because that is fairly easy and just mechanical. Then I went to the body, welded patches and found I love welding and making something good again that was awful rusty. Every project takes longer and it morphs along the way. I’m learning just to enjoy it. I like the way Sickxty is turning out. Looks great. As they say in the Army, keep moving forward

hey, I pull projects apart to sacrifice for other projects all the time. We're all on budgets and you do what you've got to do in the name of progress. That 2054 will go great in the Sickxty. A vid on an engine refresh would be great! Regarding the big tires, i remember seeing Bajas cruising the streets with monster mudders and a bone-stock 1500 back in 80s. You’re right Martin, most of us are on a budget and things have to give here and there. This is a good opportunity to give jawbreaker some love. I couldn’t agree more! Plus when the build took off on the Sickxty, the plan was to put this engine in the car. Seems to make the most sense, need HP and torque for this plus it pairs nicely with the custom built gearbox.

Haha, nah I couldn’t sell her… my family would kill me! The engine size doesn’t determine the wear, if it’s built correctly. I’m wondering how the cam and lifters are looking since these heads have the heavy dual valve springs which can cause wear faster than normal springs. Plus that oil leak is driving me crazy!

Hey Kevin! Yeah there some neglect on my part but she definitely needs some love after the first of the year. The Sickxty has morphed onto one heck of a beast that’s for sure. It has 30x9.5x15’s on all 4 corners. It has a custom built gearbox that’s matched for that size tire and the 2054 so there shouldn’t be any issues there. Always appreciate ya buddy!

Hey Gary, I’m running the same size tires on my Baja and my Manx type buggy. The buggy has a Rancho Pro Street IRS with a 4:37 RP. It that the same ratio R&P for the Sixty 🤔

Hey Mike! Yep, I’m running the same R&P. This is a pro street swing axle built by B&D performance. He did a bunch of other things as well but the gearing is pretty much stock, just one from this and that to get it a little better.

I am running the same size 30x9.5’s on my stock trans bug and it still screams. I haven’t ran into any issues. Top speed is about 85-90 with my 1600, hand ported heads, 4-1 merged, 38/38 carb.

Man you’re lucky! That Baja I had before was supposedly a 1600 and had a stock bug trans with 235/75/15 tires. It was a dog and wouldn’t hardly get out of its own way. Top speed was around 55-60 and that was floored lol

@@VWJawbreaker maybe it’s because I have 3.88 gears? It has some decent low end, but 3rd and 4th let me have the higher speed but not a lot of acceleration.

I'm sure its in your other videos somewhere. But could you tell me what seats you have in your bug. I have a 72 Super Id like to put some nice bucket seats of some kind in it. Probably nothing from other brand cars will work will it. Guess it will have to be VW?

These seats are super comfortable. You can use just about any import seat that has a flat bottom to bolt down to the floor pan. These are out of a Mini Cooper.

I figure now is the perfect time to see how things are inside. Mostly because of that pesky oil leak that drives me nuts 😂

@@VWJawbreaker I thought oil leaks were natural 😲 if it’s not spotting it’s an indication of it’s time to add some. On that note I plan to take my 1641 down this winter. I have valve jobin tools so gonna freshen up the valve job and a few tricks I’ve learned from building racin car engines. I should check the compression ratio as I didn’t put it together my dad did. When I showed up to put it together he had it in a car and running 🤪. I asked him how much compression it has all he said was more then it should. 😳
