@@HEXEDGUITARCHAOS Huh? "Busted using a metronome"? Pretty sure Eloy, doesn't play to a click. And even if he did, you can't get "busted" for it because it's not illegal or something. Most drummers play to a click, and it's not like a click make you either a good or a bad drummer. You can play to a click and still be bad. But yeah, it possible Eloy uses one at times, or when playing certain songs he just learned. But he most definitely doesn't use one a lot of the time.

Slipknot’s drummer story is remarkably similar to Metallica’s bassist story: - An irreplaceable legendary original member who tragically passed away too young, leaving an incredibly legacy. (Cliff Burton/Joey Jordison) - A fan-favorite who was adored by fans yet never really treated fairly by the band, filling impossible shoes and forever remaining in the original’s shadow. (Jason Newstead/Jay Weinberg) - A career musician who’s talent is far beyond the band itself and their involvement brings new life and will see them into retirement. (Robert Trujillo/Eloy Casagrande)

For me personally Jay Weinberg stepped in to fill in some very big shoes after Joey left and I respect what he has done in keeping the metal machine that is Slipknot running until they found the drummer that could bring the original energy and drive that Joey brought into the band from its inception till the day he left. Jay was the drummer who punched well above his weight class in keeping things going after Joey Jordinson and I deeply respect him for it. NOTE: It's really not about Jay Weinberg being the best drummer for Slipknot. Of course, he was no Joey Jordinson or Eloy Casagrande. He stepped in to keep the Slipknot machine running after Joey until they brought in Eloy. And as a Slipknot fan, I thank him (Jay) for it. Some of you mofos are just downright bitter and vitriolic. The guy did his duty as best as he could filling in after Joey. Now Eloy is there. Just be happy.

I think any drummer can tell that it’s clear as day that Eloy outperformed Jay on this. 1. Eloy plays it at the original tempo while Jay is rushing, you can hear this a LOT live in other videos as well 2. Eloy adds tasteful ghost notes and extra subtleties that make this drum part flow so much better, and he is overall more precise and every hit is clear and loud. No disrespect to Jay bc he is a hell of a drummer is his own right, but Eloy is on another level. He is for sure the most technical player out of all of them and hits hard af, he is doing an awesome job.

the issue with jay is that he never learned to read music which significantly hinders your knowledge and creativity. eloy is creative and has his own unique style which shows up more obviously in his prog band. chops, power, speed is impressive but if you have nothing else it is easily forgettable and there is no distinction between other drummers. you can hear eloy's playing without watching and know it's him but not the same for jay.

@@Murdacat i'm aware, especially some of the gospel drummers, but there is a ceiling and that's not a hidden fact. the best drummers in the world are doing creative stuff with quintuplets, nested tuplets, and advanced modulations that just aren't possible for someone that doesn't have education. technically it is possible, there's just a significant disadvantage which is why you never see it.

Jay is a fantastic drummer and whilst with Slipknot made some great music. Eloy is just other worldly though, he brings something extraordinary and quite unique to the table, much like Duplantier in Gojira or Carey with Tool. Not to diss Eloy whatsoever because he's killing it, but I think this is one of those rare instances I prefer Jay's take. The parts he wrote had a perfect balance that really helped highlight the song. Eloy's take adds a bit too many flourishes that overpower the song. Edit: On second thought... After reading the lyrics more closely, yeah Eloy's flourishes there make a lot more sense and definitely add to something. The crazy fill right after Corey screams, "Reaching out for the hand of God | But did you think you'd shake your own?" really makes sense. That's a powerful line. It's almost as if something broke inside the narrator of the song and Eloy's capturing that. I think I'm just partial to Jay's because it's the first song that got me into Slipknot
