It's not that Eloy is more genius than Joey. He's a genius too, but he's the only one who can execute the studio drums with almost perfection. Joey wrote the songs, but could not play them the same way (due to variations or getting tired). When Eloy tells his story, you can understand clearly that he practice a lot to play hours of a show without dropping a single beat.

Baterista depois dos 30 começa a sem cansar. Se você for pegar a história a fundo de Joey, a bateria não era seu unico instrumento, e mesmo assim o cara amassava. Depois da morte de Paul, você percebe o quanto Joey decai. O cara em 2008/2009 era coisa de outro mundo. Paul falece, vem diagnostico da sua doença. Pra "MIM" (opinião minha, aceita quem quiser), nunca havera um baterista como o Nathan Jonas Jordison. Sei que o Eloy teve uma vez que tocar num show com a sua perna fraca devido a uma operação na perna direita. Mas tocar no Knofest USA 2012 pra milhares de pessoa lutando contra a doneça até o final, aquilo me lembra exatamente quando Senna ganhou o GP do Brasil com carro com problemas mecanicos no câmbio, desistir não era uma opção. Assim como Senna sai carregado, Joey tbm sai, pois ambos faziam o que amavam e davam tudo de si. Sem mais.

Joey will always be incredible for the parts he created. He did not hit hard but was so smooth and effortless flying around the kit. The power AND precision that Eloy plays with is staggering. He’s taking these iconic parts to the stratosphere and giving this band an enormous lift. I hope they let him have creative input on the new album. I think he can push them.

So sick of the fanboys downing Eloy. Lol I was pissed off as well when Jay was fired, however... Eloy is doing things behind the kit that no Slipknot drummer has done during a live show in a long, long time. YES Joey wrote the parts, YES Joey was a HUGE creative driving factor in Slipknot, YES Joey was insanely talented. But in the majority of Slipknot performances, you'll find that he uses a lot of off-track fills to take up space and 'cheat' the parts he played in the studio. Not to mention, Joey played sh*t FAST during a lot of their live performances. Sorry, but Jay can't even be in this conversation. The FACT in this matter remains that Eloy Casagrande consistently delivers the precise performance that these songs demand. Anyone that tries to downplay what he's doing or take anything at all away from his performances clearly knows nothing about drums, let alone music.

The point of off-track fills to cheat during live shows is an important point that isn't discussed enough tbh Jay over relied on this technique to the point it kind of made the songs boring (particularly those with blast beat sections). While it's painful to admit with the loss of Joey, Eloy is the best drummer on a technical level they've ever had. It isn't that Joey is necessarily "worse" than Eloy, but, there's just such a difference in the way they both trained and practiced. Eloy comes from a place of training and studying more like a classical musician would for percussion and it's extremely evident in his playing and technicality.

I saw them in a similar intimate setting in 1998 at Club Oz in Killeen Texas. I had never heard of them and they actually were the openers with Machine Head headlining and Coal Chambers in the middle. As a drummer myself and musician- I was blown away by their opening performance. And I wasn't the only one, because when Coal Chambers took the stage- the only thing you could hear were chants of "Slipknot". I felt bad for Coal Chambers. Slipknot mingled and drank amongst the crowd the rest of the show. It was wild. A year later Im in California laying on the couch watching the Box (a music video station channel) and wait and bleed video starts and I hop up and am like wtf they fucking made it and I saw them in a shit hole club. And the only reason I was at that show is because I was asked to DD my friends and so they paid for my ticket

Pra mim o melhor é o Eloy, e tô falando de técnica, pra comparar em quesito de composição no Slipknot vamos ter que aguardar as músicas que virão. Eloy’s power technique and brutality might fit Slipknot’s future directions, but with all due respect, I REALLY FCKING LOVE JAY’S CREATIVITY AND GROOVE especially in the Album .5 The Gray Chapter. Honestly i prefer slipknot to go balance in groove, melody, and heaviness. I don’t like much of their songs in their early albums ‘cause for me theyre a bit too brutal and less melody and groove, but i love almost all of their songs in .5 TGC and We Are Not Your Kind
