Another thing he forgot to mention. After installing the timing chain, when cranking the engine by hand to check if everything is aligned just note that the two DOTS at the top of the cam gears will no longer align with the black links on the chain. Just make sure the LINES on the cam gears line up and the crank sprocket dot lines up with the arrow.

I have pairs of black links on my chain. I'm assuming that the dots on the cam sprockets go between the black links and I end up with with six links between the pairs of black links. It works out the same as your set up but I thought it worth mentioning.

Great video man. Hey how can I set the dual cams shafts DTC without using the chain. You did it at 4:43 , but you skip that part. How did you do it?
@stephenlavine93465 жыл бұрын
you can lock both camshafts by inserting a pin in the rear of both cams. there are holes in the ends of the cams, when lined up correctly , the pin will lock into a recess in the head.

hey for a DC5 Jdm K20A type R engine is it the same location water coolant hose that runs across to the other side for the water pump is it the same as your video shows.. or there is no water coolant hose like that on a DC5 Jdm K20A type R ?
@brendenmacvicar7385 жыл бұрын
interestingly enough the jdm k20a is so much more advanced it does not even use coolant, they are air cooled engines that even use the added air during vtec to cool the trans oil!

Hey let’s say I did everything correctly right, but when I test it by doing a full rotation does it have to land back on the dots???
@blackbeard84945 жыл бұрын
alex ngo the black links will never land back on the dots on the cam and crank, just make sure the cam marks and crank marks all line up. 2 rotations of the cam and one full rotation of the crank should do it
@Gregg01124 жыл бұрын
The dots eventually would line up. I just did a Ford timing chain and if you rotated the crank 66 times the links would line up. To check your marks its 2 rotation of the crank not 1. This is because the the cams rotate ounce every times the crank rotates twice.

I dropped one of the chain guide bolts and i can't find it. I'm not %100 sure it didnt go in the oil pan. If it did, is there anyway for that bolt to end up at the bottom of the oil pan ? In other words, is there enough space between the side of the oil pan (below crankshaft) and the rest of oil pan for a bolt to fit thru ?
@mabast0075 жыл бұрын
Yes there is an enough space to drop almost a head bolts.

I am doing the chain replacement while the engine is in the car. Make sure you don't leave bolts that are in there. I said the same, but I figured that there was a bolt left out alone. there are 2 bolts by the VVT or VTC spot.

JDMods, I have a 2004 Honda CRV with 130K miles and I am going to do the timing chain while the engine is still in the car. I see timing chain kits that sell the oil pump chain/tensioner as well. Can I change the oil pump chain/ tensioner while it is still in the car without having to remove the oil pan? it is hard to tell if that is an option. Since I am going to do the timing chain, I might as well do the oil pump chain if I can. please let me know it that it possible.
@jdmodsgarage5 жыл бұрын
To be honest, we have never done the oil pump chain but id imagine it would be tought but not impossible to do in the car

Has anyone done just a timing cover reseal on a K series? Haven’t found a video on one yet. Can it be done in car without removing the pan? will the cover seal ok with the oil pan if the cover is the only thing removed? Or would the oil pan also need resealed to ensure a proper seal? Anyone know?
@opelmantamechanic84385 жыл бұрын
just 3 bolts holding the cover onto the sump ,can be done in a couple of hours if you overcome the tight pulley bolt . it will seal just fine . don't put as much sealant as this guy did , a 3 mm bead is maximum too much and it falls off over time and clogs the oil pick up . lower the cover in carefully as not to ruin the nice continuous bead you made . put the bolts in fast before it dries in the holes and makes life difficult . to make it easier use well seal , its sticky and runny , horrible stuff but more forgiving if you brush against things as you fit it .

Looks like the tensioner can be replaced without removing the chain cover.
@hadouken82283 ай бұрын
I literally just watched a video before this one where he changed the tensioner on his 2006 TYPE-S....only removing the tensioner plate. But it seems as if that tensioner falls after removing the three (3) bolts, it's going INSIDE the oil pan, and the RSX (or at least the TYPE-S) will require the engine to be pulled because of the subframe bar, doesn't give enough clearance to remove the pan from the bottom of the engine. So when removing the tensioner, you need to place something at the bottom of the tensioner to, I guess (grab it) from falling
