I would never have guessed that was Jen's first quilt! If you saw my first quilt - you would have thought a 3 year old went to town with scissors and glue and stuck fabric in random places lol - Amazingly beautiful! And - well, Jean - what can I say- I saw your blocks as you made them and knew it was going to be another great quilt by you
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
Technically, Jen has made 2 other quilts - her little hankie quilt and her yellow and gray one...but she didn't really know HOW to quilt or do things properly, so this was her first incredibly well done quilt!! :) My first attempt at quilting sounds like yours, Carol!! :)
@Clearymartin6 жыл бұрын
lol Maybe all first attempts are wacky :) Most sane people would have given up after what I made!! hahaha I kept it though - to remind me of how much I learned in the 2 years. Started sewing January 2016.

Beautiful quilts ladies! Jen, you did such a great job picking out fabrics and fussy cutting...I just love that bee fabric! Jean is right, by having the bees in the cornerstones it gives lovely movement to the quilt. I have this on the top of my to-do list but I'm still waiting to find the right fabric set as I have trouble putting fabrics together. I hope you will consider doing this again, it's such fun and there are soooo many blocks to choose from to teach😁 I enjoyed this series immensely..thank you so much for doing this for us beginners!! Does this mean we get to see you, Jean, having some cooking lessons??!!😄😍LOL

I have my sashing and cornerstones cut out and I have everything laid out to sew it together as I'm typing this. I had to go and buy some more fabric for the sashing. But I knew I was going to have to do that. And I may have to make one of my blocks over because like Jen's one of my fabric's did some weird stuff. I think it's the kind it is. It has the look and feel of cotton but I don't think it is. Hopefully send a photo later today or tomorrow. I don't know it I have it laid out light to dark or not just putting it the way I like it. lol Your quilt tops are beautiful lady's. Hi Parker.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
Perhaps it was a poly/cotton ~ that can work up slightly more 'slippery' thank 100% cotton?!?! Don't overthink the block placement ~ it could drive you batty! :) Thank you very much Regina! :) Can't wait to see your quilt top!

So exciting. Speaking of being clever, I had one block smaller than the others. I made the sashing slightly bigger around that block. Thought I would applique something to hide the very off point. After reviewing previous utubes, found seam ripper, added border to block. Trying to put partial seams together was not fun.

@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I am so proud of my Jen and her accomplishments! :) You can purchase printed labels (from fabric manufacturers) or make your own with permanent markers. I personally, had made some more 'professional' looking ones from a proper label making company, with my company name on them. Not expensive though...but I did buy in bulk

Jean did an Awesome job! Great quilts. Now...on the Quilt Calculator app..I am pretty sure you put the overage you want on one side and it calculates it times 2. So if you want 5" around you just put 5" to 10". If I am wrong please someone correct me.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
Oh! Thank you! I really don't know....you know me and math....I can even screw up a scientific calculation!! LOL! Hope someone puts us right! Oh well, I always get extra just in case I mess up!! LOL! That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!! LOL!
@karencarswell57246 жыл бұрын
Jean, when you get to the backing can you show us what you were talking about regarding the way to do it because I don't understand that if your fabric is 45" wide how you get 69" to fold selvedge to selvedge. I'm probably being daft but I didn't quite understand. I am a visual learner.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory6 жыл бұрын
I will show you again when I do the video of my backing. It is fairly straightforward though, the way I do it. just measure your quilt top lengthwise, add for top and bottom allowance, then cut your yardage in TWO pieces, that length. Join them, selvedge to selvedge and stitch down the length, taking off the selvedge edge when you are done. Then you have a backing piece that is the size of your quilt top , generously in both length and width wise, ready to be sandwiched for quilting.

If people are concerned about their table top they can get glass to cover it. I have glass on mine, but hand basted my first quilt on the hardwood floor. It's yet to be free motion quilted. I didn't know what I was doing so it turned out to be king size and wouldn't fit into my old 1951 Singer machine. It's my goal in 2020 to practice on it.

Hi Jean, are you adding the 5 inches to the length or the width of the fabric? I am confused because on one of your earlier videos, the 5 inches were added to the length but in this video, you are adding the 5 inches to the width???
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory3 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the backing? If so, I will add AT least 5+ inches all around, length and width.
