Jeff powerfully represented a breed that has now greatly faded away - wonderful musicians and artists who got massively famous based upon their extraordinary TALENT at doing something uniquely better than most.

I saw that same show in LA. On that tour, the two were alternating nights as to who opened and who closed. I caught the show where Santana closed. While Carlos was very good, Jeff was terrific. I wish the order had been reversed. JB really stole the show in my book. RIP Jeff.

Lovely to see generations of people appreciating the living history that is Jeff Beck....what a great bloke. Never understood why ‘NME Book of Rock’ and ‘Rough Guide to’ ( circa 1990) had so little on him. Then again, he gigs more now and has released more albums which show no diminution of skill or invention.

The guy experienced more joy when a band member or guest artist did well and he often looked ecstatic and so happy for them. Never, ever played the rock star or wanted all the attention. He said his parents listened to music daily via records or radio and all types of music had influence on him. There are many, including Page and Alice Cooper who considered him the best. As Page said there are us mere mortals and then you have Jeff Beck. Impressive.

Im still struggling with the reality of accepting the fact that Jeff Beck is no longer amongst the living. As selfish as that may sound? He was the best of the holy trinity of Beck, Clapton and Page in the 60s and 70s. He was the one who was most in tune with melodic structure. Its one of the most challenging things to a guitarist. Most of us guitarists learned the minor and major pentatonic scales and their respective patterns early, and it served us well to learn to jam to world music, blues and rock. But to truly understand what Jeff Beck did throughout his career was to be melodic and sing with the guitar, of course depending on the musical situation. Today I was working with a more advanced student on how to pick out melodies. I told him to listen to Jeff Beck's recordings of 'She's a Woman', 'A Day in the Life' and 'Over the Rainbow'. What he did with those tunes was nothing short of genius. I went on about identifying the key and go with the proper key and scales to find the right notes. The notes will be there and its your job to find those melodies within those notes of the scale. I had him pick out the melody of "Over the Rainbow"...he kind of struggled to find the notes...then I told him, "think of the notes in the key of G, and you'll find them." Sure enough...notes all natural, with the exception of F#. Then...he found them. Im so sorry to have heard this news so suddenly. Mr Beck...Ive had the privilege to witness your virtuosity live when you toured with Santana in the 90s. RIP Jeff Beck...your legacy will remain with us forever, and we'll never forget you.

No expert but I think that's a Gretch Duo Jet and what glimpse I got of the amp and my knowledge of what Beck used around that time suggests to me that it's a Fender Pro Junior which differs from a Blues Junior in having a 10" speaker instead of a 12" and is vastly simplified (just volume and tone controls; no reverb, no master). If you like your guitar playing to be "rootsy" in nature and you're not interested in pedals or blowing your pants legs around, a Pro Junior would not be a bad choice.

By “he “ , you mean Jeff Beck or the presenter? Jeff , of course he was a music fan…..all genres . For anyone to play at such a high level of creativity they must have an ear for and interest in music . The conversation had it been longer , could easily have gone on to Hendrix .The fact that it didn’t , or we didn’t hear it , well , that’s the way the cookie crumbles , as they say . The “job” side of it wasn’t necessarily that important to him either , he often went AWOL …..that’s why he was fired from the Yardbirds .
