What a super large colony this one was, and such beautiful comb as well. But as large as it was, after about 5 plus hours, it was out of the ceiling and all the bees in the bee vac. A great day spent saving bees and meeting a great family. Until the next one, God's peace everyone.

Thank you so much Jeff and Charlie for finally getting all these bees out of our house! We had a great time watching y'all work (and tasting the honey!) and learned a lot - by far the coolest experience that I hope we never have to do again. 😅 And I love that we get to relive the experience and have it immortalized on KZbin! Thanks again. - Kelly and Glenda

I decided to subscribe and boy I’m glad I did. My husband and I are retired Nurse and Pharmacist. His Grandfather did bees and we decided we would like to also help raise bees. We only know what little we remember from his Grandfather so we probably could use help. We have 2 hives in our yard off Robinson Road and a hive in our son’s yard in Covington. We missed catching a swarm to keep We weren’t prepared for them to swarm as soon as they did. You are a wealth of information.

Never gets old: vacuuming up bees. Fascinates me for some reason. I get a kick out of how much the bees ignore the person cutting away their hive and vacuuming up everyone. Obviously, some bees notice, but for the most part, they continue doing bee things.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
You make a great point, how unconcerned the bees appear to be as to what is happening at the moment. The simple truth is that those bees that seem to be unconcerned are that way because they are completely absorbed into doing the job they are assigned to do. There are other bees who's job it is to defend the hive, and those are the ones that attack and sting me. But because more bees are needed to tend to the new brood and the maintenance of the hive, the newest, and least experienced bees are assigned that duty.I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 8 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thank you Mr. Ed for your compassionate care and Charlie bear for being the fearless cameraman. I believe God watches over those who watch over his. And you service both the human and the bee communities so you're likely to be doubly blessed, but I have so many questions. How do you identify drones from the working brood if they're all crawling over the comb. I did do.some.research since our last exchange and learned how to gender bees. Also what is an uncapped brood? Is that like when there's an egg lain in the cell but not covered with wax? That's the only kind of capping I could think of.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
Thank you Christin, we do love sharing our bee wrangling experiences and are very grateful that you take the time to watch them. To answer your questions: Drone brood is distinguished by the way they pultrude from the face of the comb, about 1/8 th of an inch. Uncapped brood is the larva that is not old enough and still is being fed by the bees. Once the feeding stops, the cell is capped and remains so until the fully developed bee emerges. Again, thanks for watching, and until the next time, God's peace. Mr. Ed

Y'all need to talk with the outfit that makes that hot knife. Have them fabricate one for you where the handle comes off the hot plate at about a 75degree angle/bend. The current "inline" design, I assume, is for stripping wax off of foundation where you have all the room in the world and want to be able to push the plate along. You need something more surgical for the confined spaces (essentially open boxes) you work in. Maybe even adjust the dimensions of the hot plate "foot"? Putting a bend on the handle arm ought to be simple for the manufacturer. And as a spokesman for them, they ought to oblige?

They are currently working on a new design for me right now, and I should have the prototype knife in a few weeks. I'm very excited to be the one to field test the product. Stay tuned for that video. Thanks for watching. God's peace Barbe. Mr. Ed

The first and only cutout I did in hollow tree I didn't have the good dish washing gloves with me to handle the dripping comb. Messed up good my new kidskin gloves. After all the videos I watched of yours, I should have known better. Thanks again. Great story telling always. So positive and inspiring!

I did a cutout in a million dollar home with brick veneer and had to go back to get the queen. She kept running behind a brick column. I got two hives out of it.

These video's are really interesting to me. My Dad took care of bees for a couple of years many years ago, when I was 13 - 15. It was fun and interesting then too. My question is, what can people put in the newly emptied space to prevent another swarm of bees moving into there?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 2 ай бұрын
The best thing to put in the space is insulation, it matters not the exact type, but whichever one is used, the space needs to be filled ENTIRELY! Also, any crack or opening on the exterior of the structure needs to be closed off as well using calk or other hard drying material. This will deter bees from ever finding the space inside the structure. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Alan. Mr. Ed

There in really not a "typical"stings taken while doing a removal, but 4 or 5 is an average. On this removal it was about 7 or 8. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ralph. Mr. Ed

I never considered using it, but I'm sure it would work. Still, if I'm going to use electricity to remove comb, I'll use the heated knife, the honey mess will not effect the electrical elements. Great suggestion, and thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Muchas gracias.

What happened to the lights? Did the power go out to where you were doing that removal in the dark??? Dang boys, that was a LOT of bees and a really tight space to work in! A blessing you found the queen. I was afraid she'd run down into all the cracks and crevices between the bricks. Well done!
@JeffHorchoff

As we wanted the bees to all go to the sliding glass doors near where we were working, all the other lights in the house were turned off. It kept the bees from flying everywhere in the house. A lot of bees for sure, and a real blessing the queen decided to stay on the comb. Thanks for watching. God's peace Carole. Mr. Ed

The rain and all the bees being cooped up in the hive was probably the reason why they were being so hot right?

you need to have a Hot Knife made wwith a 90 degree angle and a long shaft. That would be good for the tight spots first starting out and comb closer and right above your head
