The Xiomi Fimi X8 SE 2020 edition has a few differences in its setup process than what you expect from DJI or Autel. Tried this drone but with a gimbal calibration fail out of the box I upgraded to Mavic Air 2. Still, might sell my replacement Fimi 2020 to a friend so I can't wait to see your review. Never able to fly mine after waiting since May for it, sadly. You do very thorough work, keep it up!

I'm just in the process of setting mine up. Question, when I power up the controller I have a solid red light on the automatic take off/landing button, is this because the compass calibration and gyro calibration has not yet been done? In the manual it says something about the take off/ landing function is not yet enabled

Hiya Jeff. Great video, this is just the sort of thing I was looking for, very informative for someone like me who is new to the hobby and wanted to know more about this particular drone. One thing I wanted to ask, I noticed that in the playlist for this drone there are another 3 videos, 2 of them seem to be unavailable and won't play, it states that it is a (private video), is this a problem my end? Hi John - Glad you enjoyed the video! The playlist you're looking at may be someone else's list though - I don't think I have any playlists that have nonviewable videos.

Jeff, Thanks for sharing this. In your future videos can you also mention how to view recorded videos from FIMI Navi 2020 app, I could not find any option to view recorded videos from app, I am not sure if this is even possible... Looks like we have to remove the SD card and connect to computer to access the recorded content.

Jeff - Thanks, in advance, for this series. I've got three flights in on my Fimi 2020, and have had no issues. I also wondered about battery firmware updates. I haven't had to do one yet on my spare! Hope you will review/suggest ND filters for this drone - I'd like to have something to protect the camera lens. I did not have an up to date cellphone for this drone, instead, I am using a Lenovo Tab M8 for a dedicated monitor. This works great! Bob

Glad it helped. I don't think those switches do anything at this point - they were probably added in case they came up with a use for them later, I guess.

Question: If the App downloads and loads up on my phone, does that mean it will work and fly the FIMI drone? DJI prevents their Fly app from loading on incompatible phones. I'm asking, because the drone cannot be easily returned if purchased and then will not fly with current phone.

that's a great question. I don't know, and I don't know any way I could test it other than maybe with my iPad Mini . . . I'll be flying in a couple days and I may try it out. Otherwise, you could contact Fimi. From what I understand their support people are very responsive. www.fimi.com/contact

I've got a May 2020 production date on mine and there seems to be an issue where it goes into failsafe return between 1000-1500 feet. Might have to return as it seems that production month has an issue...check your production date!

Mine is May 2020 as well. How many reports have you seen of this? I saw it on Bill The Reviewer's channel but hadn't heard of it elsewhere. This may be something I have to test.

Does the Fimi x8 SE 2020 make an audible noise ? When I received mine the box was badly damaged and the drone it self makes alot of noise even though it appears in tact , I haven't flown it yet cause I am trying to work out if it safe to and ultimately what the noise is incase it a faulty sensor and crashes or something.

hmmm . . . it does make noise, certainly. I wouldn't think of it as being really noisy though. Can you compare its noise to another drone, like it's louder than a Mavic Air 2 or more quiet than a Phantom 4? @@JeffSibelius thanks I'm actually talking about it stopped still static mine makes noises and they dont sound healthy , Fimi are supporting but never said if the noises were normal or not but asked me to do some calibrations , send photos and to send the ''blackbox files'' on that's what the port on the side of the drone is for.

@@johnog8358 Ah, that doesn't sound good then. I haven't noticed any significant noise coming from the drone as it's just sitting there on the ground, or even hovering.

It could be the ultrasonic sensor your hearing. The original Mavic Pro also had a fairly noisy sensor. It’s like bat clicks.

after firmware updates, is it necessary to calibrate the drone, RC, compass, gimbal ?

Hi Dick - is it necessary? Probably not. But it's a good idea to calibrate your compass at least when you do a firmware. It certainly doesn't hurt anyway. The other calibrations I don't typically do unless I see something in my flight characteristics that tells me a calibration is needed.

The camera (white balance, horizontal tilt) is kind of disappointing. Plagued by chronic disconnects on start up and app freezes..unit makes an low audible buzz noise when powered on that's constant, not sure if that's normal..

Thats the challenge with a new drone - I think they're still filling their preorder backlog. Banggood is also less consistent on when they ship things out. Ordering from Banggood generally saves you money, but they do require more patience of you for sure.

I enjoyed your video on the Fimi. I entered my e-mail and password but could not get a response on the register button for the app. Any advice? Shutting down the app, I was able to connect the controller to the drone and arm the motors.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions. I had the same problem, but solved it logging in with my Apple ID. Hope that helps.
