I am Jamaican 🇯🇲 but I enjoy all delicious foods. The last time I really enjoyed Guyanese food was 1976 in Toronto I met an older Guyanese lady I called mommy, I didn’t know her name. She made the best Guyanese food fresh everyday! The only thing that was warmed over was pepper pot😋 I fell in love with Guyanese food because of her delicious meals. I am so thankful I found your channel. I will be trying out your recipes.

Thank you so much for this step by step video on making this delicious dish featuring your mom. My late mom and Godfather were experts at making Metemgee like your beloved mom. My mom also never measured or wrote down ingredients for recipes so it was very hard for me and my sister to make a lot of our delicious Guyanese food. Thanks for another succinct, logical and easy to follow Guyanese recipe. I left Guyana in 1956, age 10, when the family moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. Needless to say Guyanese ingredients was difficult then unless relatives or friends from Guyana visited with smuggled ingredients. Now I live in Toronto where there are many West Indian stores and we have been cooking more Guyanese favourites. I was even able to grow my own Wirri Wirri peppers. Yours is my favourite Guyanese cooking channel as my mother cooked by feel and taste and didn't leave recipes with quantities.

My Mom and Grandmother used to make this. I made it from memory and I came close to this recipe. My mom would fry fish on the side then add it on top last. Thank you for this - I love it, now I can save this recipe for my daughter, this is her favorite dish

I've never heard of this dish - thank goodness for KZbin! It reminds me of Haitian fish stew, except for the coconut milk that's used, & how the dumplings are made. I definitely want to try this - I'm always looking for new recipes from the sister islands! ❤️

Oh my gosh! That's what a real metem is all about! My favourite is topped with fried Red Snapper then steamed in the top of the metem for that delicious coconut cream to saturate!
