I'm getting ready to replace mine, thanks for the video and information on torque spec and bolt size.

Great video! Is it always necessary to replace the gasket or, if the bolt was loose, can I just retorq the bolt?

Dang I just did this step by step exactly the same way using the OEM nissan part and now the leak is even worse. I ensured the gasket wasn't pinched or anything, too and the tab on top of the cooler was seated appropriately. Torqued the stud down to 36ft lbs and the leak is pretty strong now. Any ideas?

Hmmm, either there is some dirt keeping the o-ring from sealing, or the leak is from somewhere else. If I remember, there is a locating tab to keep it from turning... are you sure you lined that up?
@bradnoah66262 жыл бұрын
@@JemalCRM yes, I did line it up with the tabs and threaded it carefully by hand and seated the stud back at 36ft lbs. I just redid the whole process again today and cleaned it up until it looked like new. Used brake cleaner, a soft toothbrush and got it back to nearly new. Put in a brand new OEM gasket picked up at the dealership confirming part number with my VIN. Changed filter again, too. It's leaking in the exact same manner despite being super careful. The gasket I put in last week looked brand new still, no gaps, tears, compressed areas. My thoughts go to: warped oil cooler or, based on what I've read, a bad PCV valve. I'm going to pull the PCV today and replace and check form there.

@@bradnoah6626 Yes the leak could have been from higher up all along! I thought my leak was just from a kid not paying attention and screwing a new filter on over dirt, and lived with it for weeks. It's at the low part of the engine, so anything above will end up down there!

Hello, what was the pressure of the torque instrument?
@JemalCRM2 жыл бұрын
I had to watch my video again... I do mention that the torque is 36 ft-pounds! 22mm or 7/8 inch socket

Great video! I was wondering why mine is leaking and now I know the fix 👍... quick question... did u have to empty out engine oil? If so this would be best to do during an engine oil change right?
@JemalCRM3 жыл бұрын
No, you only need to remove oil filter. I had just changed my oil looking for the leak. Oil in the pan will not drain out by removing filter.

Why do all these Nissan Xterra videos not say what kind of motor it has? Makes it so confusing for me
@JemalCRM2 жыл бұрын
Well, there's really only one engine option for these. I suppose the Gen 1 was a smaller 3 liter V6. I think pretty much all the Gen 2 (05+) use this 3.4 liter V6.
