Here’s the thing, JLo’s entire career has been smoke and mirrors. And what I mean by that is, she and her entire team have tried to make her entire music career bigger than what it actually is by trying to put her on the same level as women like Madonna, Janet, Mariah, Britney and Beyonce. When in reality, she has none of their success or accolades. In 2014 she won the Billboard Icon award.But if you look at who else won that award such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, Cher, Janet Jackson & Mariah Carey. You quickly realize that JLo sticks out like a sore thumb amongst those artists. I don’t think it’s ageism either, given that older women such as Madonna, Janet, Cher, Shania Twain and before she got sick, Celion Dion were all doing fine when it comes to touring. I think fans are invested in those women’s careers and not JLo’s. Ultimately I think what it is is that people have never cared about JLo as an artist, or her music in order for people to continue to support her after 20+ years
@nomfundisokafwanka18704 ай бұрын
@smurfyboy92 exactly 💯 it's the same thing I keep on saying to people, people are invested in women like Celine Dion if she could go on tour now at the age 56 it would be sold out all over the world, this has nothing to do with age, people just don't care for Jennifer Lopez.
@rivamentez16274 ай бұрын
It's nuts that she got the icon award in 2014 before Celine (2016), Cher, (2017), Janet (2018 ) and Mariah (2019). Compare their talent, sales, longevity etc to hers and you see that something just doesn't add up. The mere fact that she doesn't even sing her songs is enough for me. Britney and Madonna may not have the best voices ever but at least they don't use ghost singers..
@rivamentez16274 ай бұрын
@@nomfundisokafwanka1870 Ageism does play a part in general but not in this specific situation imo. Also J. Lo shouldn't even be compared to Celine Dion. Celine's last tour with more than 125 shows was sold out before she had to cancel the remaining dates because of her illness, J. Lo couldn't even sell 30 (?) dates. Plus Celine has performed more than 2000 times selling out tickets, while J. Lo has done 300 shows. You would think that people would want to see someone who rarely performs live, yet here we are, the public doesn't care. Not because of her age but for all the other reasons.
@nomfundisokafwanka18704 ай бұрын
@@rivamentez1627 am not comparing her to the legendary Celine Dion, people on the other channels just assume that this has to do with women her age, that young kids only want to see stars like Taylor swift which is not true, my point was in my previous comment people just don't have love for jlo.

Jlo had hit songs and that’s it. No artistic identity strong enough to form a fan base. Being general public famous alone, will not sustain a musician. It only brings publicity but it’s fickle and people move on. Ideally you want both general public fame and a fan base, but if you have to choose one it’s better to have a strong core fan base bc they’ll sustain ur career through ups and downs

She broke into the music business during a time when record labels were signing any pretty celebrity who could dance & hold a basic note. And if you didn’t have strong singing talent, the studios would have other people do all the work for you. Everything back then was manufactured, that’s how we got singers like Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Ashlee Simpson, etc. Those days are over. I think that’s true because she was really generating some serious heat as an actress in the 90s. Movies like Out of Sight, Anaconda, Jack, Blood and Wine and, of course, Selena really put her on the map as an exciting actress. But I think she lost credibility in Hollywood trying to be a pop star. She rode the Latin Explosion of the 2000s and had a popular run with music. But it’s no secret that she’s not a great singer and the whole thing felt pretty shallow after a while. Lopez would be better served sticking with acting and seeking out interesting roles with substance like Hustlers.
@KeyTheDolll4 ай бұрын
As a marketing major and someone with common sense, Jennifer Lopez is a good example of what not to do as an artist. Everything about her and this project has been bad. She should’ve realized she’s not at the top anymore and she’s not someone like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, or even Taylor Swift. The latter three women have created an authentic fanbase, and they’re exceptionally talented with likable personalities which made them beloved by the masses. JLo is an amazing performer and dancer but her personality isn’t likable. She’s rude and a diva to everyone, including her own fans, but she’s different from Mariah Carey since she played into the diva role and she’s talented at what she does. JLo should’ve realized that no one cares about her or her relationship with Ben Affleck. A few years ago maybe, but currently no. She should’ve done another Vegas residency, dropped the new album to promote it along side the residency, and performed a few new songs from the album. The movie should’ve been completely scrapped. If she wanted to do a movie, she could’ve done a rom-com inspired by their relationship and dropped a few songs for that movie. In my opinion, the album should’ve been more personal. It’s not a bad album but it’s something that’ll get lost in the void. If it’s inspired by her relationship, she should’ve chosen a picture of them as the album cover and been more vulnerable. Besides all that, her ticket prices were completely insane. Beyoncé was cheaper than that and I was directly in front of the stage.
