LAZY COWORKERS | How to deal with lazy people at work // Having a lazy coworker is bad, having to deal with lazy coworkers who pass on their work and take the credit is even worse. Of all the coworker issues you may experience in your career, lazy colleagues may be the most frustrating of the difficult coworkers you encounter. Why? Because lazy people at work have an uncanny ability to know exactly what task to neglect that will force someone else to do it - and some will shamelessly take credit for your work too. Many of my high achieving clients have had to deal with lazy coworkers, and I’ve helped them not just learn how to deal with a lazy coworker, but to know what to say to a lazy coworker, how to cope when your coworker is slacking and even hwo to motivate a lazy coworker. If your most common complaint is my coworker doesn't do anything,, you need this video is for you my friend.

I terminate lazy people immediately. I am a supervisor. In my industry, if you are lazy, it puts people's lives in danger. It also causes extra stress on good employees. I pay my employees to complete work, not to avoid it. Incompetent management and zero accountability is the ONLY reason a lazy person is allowed to keep their job. Find a company that pays attention to the production of each employee . They will find out who is wasting their time and money.

Why can't you be my supervisor lol....I'm just saying in my field people die or get maimed when you do not pay attention. I literally brought up concerns to my supervisor about people being on their phones, web surfing, anything but work and she said it was fine and we can have a meeting to talk about our feelings. I'm like no thank you ma'am. I was pulling so much extra I was burning myself out. Now I am finally relieved to find a different job which hopefully aligns with my values in the work place.

We don't all work in offices and some lazy coworkers who hide and do no work for half the shift are guilty of theft. They are hurting the other coworkers and stealing wages if they are not working. If the supervisor doesn't catch this everyone suffers. It is actually the number one type of "theft"at work! Lazy workers also tend to be great at manipulation. I am sick of hearing the advice MYOB. Lazy bosses also don't like confrontation or firing or hiring. So frustrating.
@JenniferBrick
@JenniferBrick 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Lori, laziness is time theft and it costs companies dearly in wages paid, and the problems it causes for others. This video is definitely oriented to individual contributors whose work is distinct. I do want to ask: if your lazy coworker gets away with not working, why do you think you would not get away with not picking up their slack? Truly consider this (and especially consider risks). Also consider alternates: are there different shifts, areas or tasks? Is there a way to quantify your work to prove output when they drop the ball?

3 pieces of advice that work. Ignore as much of the bull sh%$t as you can, give bosses constructive ideas like "maybe adding this task to this person could help with this" because a lot of bosses don't want to get caught taking sides or hearing only complaining, dont take on work that they could be doing because learning to walk away feels good and forces them to work. Its hard to be a worker who actually cares but unfortunately some just do not. I found these 3 things at least help

I think lazy coworkers are like an infection. One infects another, and so on, soon the entire team are packed full of lazy people. Rather than working against them is best to work with them. They are usually excellent communicators, back stabbers, with limited abilities. They are usually picked because the boss is not a particularly capable person, insecure, and doesn't like people being smarter than them, but love being praised. In other words, you are best to leave the company ASAP if a better option becomes available, or your not so smart boss will give you all the work, bitch about you with his gang, and get rid of you if his gang is unhappy with you for whatever stupid reason. A lazy person would far rather spend 4 hours bitching about someone else, than doing the 1 hour work that is needed. Is a crazy logic. So how to deal with them... become one of them, don't put in so much effort at work, try not to stand out, do the bare minimum so you won't get into trouble (this is more difficult, than doing the actual work), and look for a new job.

I started a new job a few months back. My lazy coworker is my supervisor. He delegates the majority of the workload to me while he takes his sweet time doing the easy work. I found out from upper management that he has been saying that I am haven't been pulling my weight. That I've been taking too long. I told management the situation, and they said they would put me with a different supervisor. However, feeling betrayed I couldn't help but tell my current supervisor NO the next time he tried to order me around. I called him out on what he was doing and said that I will not work with him anymore.

I have a lazy coworker who kisses the supervisors ass all day long instead of finishing his tasks. He sneaks out to his car or is always sitting on the toilet while I pick up his slack. Whats even more frustrating is the supervisors are all aware of this but lets it slide and basically babies him. I finally told him off but now hes trying to play the victim and make me look like the bad guy. How can I handle this situation?

Here’s 1000 times better advice to deal with lazy workers 1. Grow a pair 2. Have your boundaries 3. If no change happens after a face to face talk with the lazy guy or girl tell your supervisor. That’s it! Remember that they are getting the same sallary as you for doing half the effort so if they aren’t pulling their weight then there is no need to be “professional” about that

I just viewed your video and am relieved! I recently took on another duty at work. My duties are now supposed to be done by someone else. He spends most of our shift looking at his phone. I wrote down what needs to be done and every day he leaves expensive equipment out and hazardous materials in the wrong place. We use 99% alchohol to disinfect. At a dog daycare, water is used to redirect behavior. Both are in spray bottles. The disinfect bottle is labeled, but kept in one location-where it's used. Yesterday, I found the bottle where the water spray is placed. When a dog fight begins to happen, we don't have time to read a bottle. I left it - exhausted that I have to double check his duties everyday. Listening to your video makes me rethink how his lack of work impacts (or doesn't) my work.

I work at barns for one of my jobs and I’ve been struggling lately with a lazy co-worker. We all work alone on our days, and it’s up to each of us to do our daily tasks on our days of work. I know I have high standards etc, so I’ve been keeping my mouth shut… however I’m taking out double the amount of horse waste out of stalls than I should be and it’s adding on an extra 1-2hrs of work. It’s hard when I have more than one barn to do, other tasks to get done for work, or just my own personal stuff I need to do. Like I don’t mind picking up extra slack if I need to or want to, but when it’s every single week… It is very draining and frustrating. It impacts what I can get done. I don’t want them to do a perfect job, but I’d like them to do their portion so my days aren’t longer and harder. Plus… these are live animals living in the barns… people pay to have the horses there. I know I wouldn’t want to pay $800+ a month to board my horse at a place that doesn’t have clean stalls all the time, just saying. I feel like the manager will just shrug at me if I bring it up, so my only solutions are either starting my day at 4:30am or sacrifice the quality of my work so I spend less time at the different locations so I can get on to the next thing I have to do. If I start my days super early, I’m sure I’ll end up being even more grumpy which isn’t how I want to be… and if I sacrifice the quality of my work I’m sure I’ll be the one getting yelled at (meanwhile it probably would still be a better job done than them anyway, but the difference will be noticeable.) So for now, I’ve been documenting my exact hours and making notes of everything.

He doesn’t get written up. I just have to keep asking and asking and asking and asking and aski and asking and Asking. My supervisor asks and asks and asks and asks and asks. He is so nice about saying yes I’ll do it but then he doesn’t do it unless he is asked even though it’s in his protocol. I can’t write him up because I’m not a supervisor. It wastes so much of my time. I just want to cry every time it happens how. It’s torture. He knows darn well that he needs to do this and he just refuses until asked

Sick of lazy workers. My former supervisors and manager turned a blind eye to what was going on. They only cared if there was someone on the floor and they protected her.. doesn't matter if you're one of the few that actually works and gives your all there. Doesn't matter one bit because they protect her for God knows what reasons. This person would discriminate against wheelchair bound patients..pick and choose who she wanted to take care of...disappear and have no guilt for leaving you alone while it's busy....we work at a cancer facility and the patients are of the utmost importance. The patients don't deserve to he treated like that. They are sick and that's the last thing they want is an uncaring staff who doesn't want to take care of them. Oh, and get this, she claims to love the Lord on top of that. Pisses me off how selfish she is and how everyone doesn't care. I left that place and I will never go back.

Increase sales and customer loyalty, and never say a word to your lazy peer/coworker, and eventually management will notice. It's not your job to manage your peer. Perhaps your boss is too scared to say anything to the lazy coworker because they're friends or a relative of upper management. It will take time because they're buddies with your coworker, but eventually your boss will be notified by their boss that they want to see you put in charge of things, and your boss will make his/her boss happy by listening to their suggestion and making it happen. Like Jennifer said, create something that is unique about you that can never be duplicated, no matter how hard people try. In other words, when people see something you have done, they know that is you because only you have the brains and creativity to do that.

Lazy. I’m sick of doing their work! but to me, it’s embarrassing for customers to come to a dirty dining room, so I clean it up and do the work they get paid for yet I am doing. I’m really scared to bring it up to my boss cause of my anxiety but I can’t stand it. Personally, if I were in charge, I’d talk with them and give them a warning. If it continues, I’d fire them.

Tell your boss normally you don’t mind doing their job every morning but you are now going through something and you can no longer carry that workload as well. Your boss will see that you have been doing the work as well as you are not complaining but mentally or physically cannot keep up on the added workload. It can be something personal they cannot ask you about it. At all. If they do just sigh and say I’d really rather not talk about it.

Our company hired a girl who got hired to be paid more than me and is very lazy. One of our coworkers (an older coworker who the lazy worker is supposed to take place of once she retires) told on her to our boss. Our boss did nothing but tell the big boss. He came to me in front of others out of nowhere, and I was put on front street and asked if she was lazy. I agreed but in a subliminal way because I'm sure others outside of the office could hear the conversation. My boss suggested that we split the programs (that we all work) and that way she could monitor her work. The big boss said no and told me that my other coworker and I needed to handle it by letting her know she was slacking. He also told me she is getting paid more than me. I said that will cause a hostile work environment. He threatened to have a meeting with all of us if we don't deal with it and handle it. The older lady who told, cried to our boss and threatened to quit if we had to be part of the meeting. Long story short, they ended up giving me a lead position (in secret) with more pay and kept the lazy worker. They gave me this after I left 2 weeks right after the incident because my mom passed away. I was going to quit, and I think they knew that. It's been a year now and we still have to deal with her mistakes, laziness, and half ass work. I am trying to find ways for an exit strategy asap, but I am now living check to check.

My colleague is my operations 'partner,' so yes, him not doing his job ie: not scheduling meetings w/the right attendees, not taking notes & sending recaps following those meetings, etc. DOES directly impact me. I had asked when I first joined the team if anyone had a roles & responsibilities deck or document that I could reference, so I knew exactly what his job entailed. I was met with: oh, we don't have one. I've been left with no option but to fill in the work he's not doing because if I don't, I can't get my job done either.
