@@jensdbe Yes, there can be complications with older computers; I have just the one Mac., it's a 2008 17 inch MBP., and I installed Linux Mint Mate on it and it's currently working well, perhaps you could try to install a Linux distro on that 4,1.

Hey @jensd_be - great video. Glad I found you! My 4,1 has been upgraded to a 5,1 for a few years now (since Mojave). And I'm currently working on Monterey. I'm considering moving up to Sonoma/Sequoia (I think OCLP 2.0.2 covers Sequoia pretty well - but Sonoma is probably more stable). My question: Do you have a listing of all of the hardware upgrades you've made for this beast of yours? I think it's time to upgrade a couple of my SATA HDs to SSDs.

Hi, great video, so helpful!! I got a question, I have a Macpro 5,1 mid 2010 with a processor 2.8 ghz Quad-Core Xeon, currently I'm running Monterey but I want to know if you recommend upgrading the processor to a faster one, and which one do you recommend for this machine. Once again, thank you so much for sharing this info!!!

Good afternoon, after having an oclp update I lost the boot without seeing anything until macos. Having the same graphics card (sapphire rx 580 8 GB) I would like to know how to recover as if I had the original card. Thank you so much
@gosekinz2 ай бұрын
Have you tried with more than one monitor? My Saphire Nitro+ RX580 will only support one monitor - doesn't matter what interface it is attached to. If I have more than one monitor attached it only drives one monitor. Is there some additional patch I'm missing? - OCLP doesn't think so.

Hey, so I have a 4,1 as well which I flashed to 5,1 thanks to your Tutorial. Now I want to use Opencore to install Sequoia. But when I Remove the Boot ssd when its turned off and then start it, it doesn’t go to opencore from the stick. Just stays black. I have a GTX 760 (which is not flashed) currently installed in the system. Csrutil is disabled. So you have any advise?
@jensdbe28 күн бұрын
Did you build OpenCore with that GTX 760 installed? As I noticed that you might get a different configuration for OpenCore with a different GPU. Also you could try to remove the SSD, put in the USB drive and hold CMD + P + R, the power on the machine, hold them and wait till you've heard the chime at least 2 times (this can take some time). One more thing is that it could be just an issue with the USB drive. Some of them somehow are difficult to boot from, I've seen this especially with Sandisk drives.
@paulschadel389427 күн бұрын
@ hey, thanks for the answer. The solution was to enable NVIDIA GOP in Opencore before building the installer. The installation then worked fine. But now I am at another problem: when in Sequoia opencore tells me that all root patches are applied and graphics acceleration and WiFi is working, but the usb ports aren’t, except with the usb hub used during installation. After trying to revert the root patches and install them again it is still not working… is there a possibility to go in the efi manually and add some kext or is there an easier solution? On the opencore site I did not find any solution to this…
@paulschadel389427 күн бұрын
I might have to add important information that I just found out. If I connect a USB drive to the usb ports on the Mac, they work. If I connect any peripherals they won't work unless using the hub...

And how do you deal with drivers? For example, I use a FireWire audio interface, and that operating system does not have drivers for this format, and the Internet card I ordered does not have drivers for that operating system... so how do you make everything work properly?
@jensdbe4 ай бұрын
@@Iglesiabiblicafundamental if it is supposed to work with macOS Sonoma, it should work just fine in this case as well. Either it can use the built-in drivers or kexts that come with Sonoma or the manufacturer will provide one. This is no different than it would be on a supported Mac running Sonoma. If there really are no drivers for macOS at all, you can also run Windows on this hardware.

I had the same “fans spin off” problem, and solved it with your video, many thanks! Yet, when I login to Sonoma, and after I apply root patches, everything seems to work perfectly fine, but fans again spinofff. Is that normal? Everything works, but fans completely turned off. Under system info my gfx card is recognised properly: Sapphire Rx580 8Gb. What is the problem? Btw, when I login to Monterey, on different drive, fans work correctly.
@bla20302 ай бұрын
I figured out that most probably this “fans off” is normal. Under some load (fullhd yt video), fans started for sometime and then stopped again. Looks normal?
@jensdbe2 ай бұрын
I have the same behavior, also on Windows. I'm pretty sure this is how it is supposed to be and it keeps the machine silent when the GPU is not under heavy load.

looks easy... but is tricky ;-) I've tried to install Monterey on the exact system you have, but end up in a macOS Installer loop... The mac Pro starts up, shows me a macOS Installer icon and automatically changes to the apple logo and the progress bar. After about 30% it stops, black screen and back we are at the installer icon. Any ideas?

Should work fine with Monterey I ran that as well on the same system. Are you sure all hardware is ok? (I'm thinking memory). You could get more luck with another USB drive but it can be tricky to troubleshoot these kind of issues.

@@jensdbe I'm pretty sure hardware and memory is ok - the mac runs fine with it's last Mojave installation. I'll try it again with another usb drive, let's see whether that will solve the problem... ;-)
