In this video we discuss the bashing and misinformation about CrossFit in Jillian Michaels' most recent video she uploaded on Instagram and KZbin. I honestly believe she is doing this to stay relevant. Leave your thoughts, opinions, and questions below. Check out the wild clips of how Jillian "Coaches" her clients that were on the biggest loser. Keep in mind that these people are obese and have little to no workout experience as she tries to break them with incredibly challenging and intense exercises on day one, and each day after.

In honour of her ignorance I did a WOD today called “The Jillian” 10-9-8-....1 box jumps - 1-2-3 burpees. Surprisingly my shoulders didn’t hurt. Oh well .....

I always thought the suitcase carries we do wouldn’t be the most applicable movement we ever did in CrossFit. Then, while out camping I had a life flight helicopter land at our site and ask for help carrying a logger out of the woods that had been hit by a falling tree. I had to help carry this guy about 200 yards up a huge slope over tons of fallen trees. I was one of two people out of many that came to this guys rescue that was actually able to do this without having to rest constantly. I knew right there that CrossFit had prepared me for things that I won’t know I needed to do until I had to do it. That was a great feeling.

I’ve only been doing 11 months of CrossFit, and I feel like I have a better grasp on the program than she does. Seems like she based all of her feedback on one class she attended, on a program she is ill informed about. She talks heavily about how challenging movements can be and how dangerous they can become if done improperly, which is all true, but what is also true is that everything can be scaled per person to match their mobility, strength and pace. I never thought I would be lifting and training to do a muscle up, and here I am still struggling but progressing because all of my coaches have scaled everything to my level. She failed to mention the fundamentals classes that most boxes have for beginner athletes, or she probably doesn’t even know about them. As an overweight person, I was very intimated in doing CrossFit. My first week they had people doing rope climb and my coach had me do a a seated version of just getting myself up the floor. I’ve had zero injuries in my tenure at my box and have continued to slowly progress through all the movements. CrossFit is more than adaptable to everyone and I’m a great example of that. Very disappointing to hear someone like her with a massive audience bash on a program she knows very little about.

Exactly. Thanks for sharing your experience Claudia! Just like most things in life, throwing caution to the wind will lead to problems. Being smart and taking a well thought out approach will lead people to seeing progress.

The thing that kills me the most is when she complains that Crossfit doesn't have a plan. Even if you only watch the Games, you can see there actually is a plan. And if you belong to a box, they have one. Even if you subscribe to a platform (ie.: Comptrain), you can see that they have one. And the plans work (lifting heavier, better abilities in gymnastics, improved health). Also ironic that she never mentions the diet (by diet, I mean eating clean and healthy, not a fad diet) portion of CrossFit (which is HUGE) considering her stance on fitness and what she advocates (losing weight, being more fit... Biggest Loser type of endorsement - which actually has failed as most contestants put the weight back on and return to unhealthy lifestyle).

I believe she was exaggerating her experience with the burpees. Lets be real. CrossFit is not good for Jillian Michaels brand. She has gone way too far at this point to change her mind. if she ever came around and said "CrossFit is great if you do it right" she would get slaughtered haha Great Vid. 💪🤘

Very true that she just wants to keep promoting her stuff at the end of the day. I also believe she was exaggerating that workout, but I bet many people who also know nothing about CrossFit would be gullible and believe her.

Thank you for this!! Your explanations were clear and made sense. I have only been doing CrossFit for about 2years. I love it because it can be adapted to any fitness level. It is designed to help you move better so that you can stay mobile for the rest of your life. The right coach really does make a difference!

Unfortunately there is a small amount (in comparison to how many are out there) of gyms with poor programming and coaching, which she is reaching in her explanations. But you're totally right. I good coach can help people see incredible results from CrossFit training.

NGL, I have no respect for the opinion of someone involved in the trash that was The Biggest Loser. She's just repeating common arguments people have always made against CrossFit without actually knowing anything about it. Good work breaking this down logically.
@ConstantlyVariedFitness
@ConstantlyVariedFitness 3 жыл бұрын
And that's just the thing. She is choosing to be blind to the facts and not dive into anything about CrossFit's training. She thinks she knows everything about fitness like she's a scientist and not someone who just tells people to run on a treadmill and use the leg extension machine.
@SuperContrasted
@SuperContrasted 3 жыл бұрын
@@ConstantlyVariedFitness Yeah and you're absolutely right about her trying to stay relevant. Clearly it's working because when you do a quick Google search, it's all results of her hating on CrossFit. It is possible to do CrossFit/functional fitness wrong. If you're not listening to your body and not paying attention to moving properly, you likely will get hurt. It's just as easy to do that in any other type of fitness you're not familiar with. I've tweaked my back during front squats, not because they're inherently dangerous, but because it was a new movement for me and I was trying to progress too quickly. And I wasn't doing them for time.

I have a NASM Cert and I would never attempt to teach Olympic lifting (I am clueless on form). However, as a former gymnast, I can easily teach gymnastic movements :-) so not sure what her point is in finding a coach with a 'degree'. Note: Michaels has NO degree in nutrition, exercise physiology, or kinesiology.

I once had the 100 burpees for time programmed (cap 10 minutes) and my oldest member (in her own words) did only 69. She is 70 years old and was totally fine afterwards and the days after. No complaints about shoulders whatsoever. Great video, very calm and down to earth response.

@@ConstantlyVariedFitness oh I agree. I just think it would be great. To me I do not understand how she can bash crossfit when she was associated with Biggest loser. No trainer should ever do what they did to those people. I'm really new to crossfit but I see how it is and how it is scaled for newbies like me. Jillian is so stuck on the typical workout myths from forever ago.

Not sure why she feels the need to try to belittle something that is just simply different that what she prescribes. Makes her look small minded and "elitist". But she's obviously more of an entertainer than an expert of anything related to fitness. And she's getting the publicity she was looking for.

Uhhhhh so if you are driving your car to the extreme that a NASCAR driver drives their race car then you might want to get some sort of formal coaching.... seems like an apples and oranges comparison. Also I can tell you from personal experience that if you are pressing with CrossFit workouts and steadily making gains you can and likely will injure yourself. Unless you want to have to take Celebrex and Mobic for the rest of your life so you can make it from the bed to the toilet before you piss yourself you might want to keep it light. If you can live with that and not let your pride run away with you it is a decent workout though.

Almost as much as all of the other individuals who do physically demanding exercise programs (powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding) or sports (basketball, football, soccer). I've been going to a very popular chiropractor in my city, and I'm one of the few Crossfitters she sees. She sees more people that play recreational pick up games on the weekends who don't take care of their bodies.
