I 100% support having a mini-dive on "Pass the Baby." It's my favorite "later" Jimmy Eat World song.

A huge favorite of mine as well. Particularly because it feels like SUCH an outlier in their library.

YES!!! I've always been so fascinated with that song! Got to see them play it a few years ago, it was awesome!

Can you talk about the conversation between you and Tom when you transitioned to being the main singer?
@RealDantendo4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would be really interesting
@starfox8784 жыл бұрын
This was mentioned in an interview somewhere. I am pretty sure they sang what they wrote. If tom wrote a song, he would sing it and same for jim. Eventually jim ended up writing more songs and they just did those. I could be wrong.

I think that was a label(Capitol Records) move back in those days just to focus who really was the lead singer.

Jim- I admit I only recently discovered your music and what I have heard so far is some of the best in this era.. good work and I think you are cute looking forward to hearing more new things from you

I absolutely love Jim's songwriting philosophy (circa the 10 minute mark). I used to feel self conscious about maintaining a certain theme through a song or even a series of songs. I've gotten more comfortable with going where the lyrics go. If it sounds good and it clicks, you can always do a little psychoanalytic dive as to why maybe one line prompted the next, or how certain songs maybe seem contradictory, but derive from the same general theme, struggle, notion, etc. But yeah, anytime I have tried to force it from the onset, it is a recipe for the crash and burn.

I am nerding out so hard that you chose my question 🙈🙈 although if I had thought you would be a little more lax on the 15 second rule I might have chosen a different one. Please keep doing this series, it’s been super fun to watch! Also requesting more mini dives, and some longer dives would be cool, too. Thanks Jim! 😊

Bahahaha thank you for answering my question Jim and loved how you pointed out the product placement and met it with the same mug sip 😂😂 Seriously thank you for explaining that, it now makes all the sense and I truly love all the last songs of the albums probably the most on every album genuinely so much and it makes all the sense since I love your guys music so much!! Aha I wish I could see a show with every album last song of yours made into a show of straight deep cuts and longer songs would be so amazing! Ahh and congrats to Jason, aha still wish I won the guitar wanted one of those bad, love the p90s and tones you get , maybe one day I’ll still get one!

I’d love to see another of these, I missed it! I’d love to know if WHEN you tour Surviving at last you think it’ll be all the more poignant given the record’s theme. Perhaps at the time it felt like it could kill the album’s momentum, but maybe in the end it will make more sense than ever.

Jim! Would love to see another Q&A mini dive in the future--I wanted to submit something but haven't had the chance to catch the last few episodes of Pass Through Frequencies and didn't want to embarrass myself if my question had already been addressed. I hope Jason loves his guitar!

I’d love to see a dry erase board breakdown of the “pass the baby” riff. I tried to find a pattern in there, but to your point, there isn’t really one....also, I’d really love to hear more songs like the afore mentioned and “congratulations”. Most of my favorite JEW songs feature a heavier riff (ie Get It Faster).

I am pretty sure Petra Hadyn of That Dog and Hadyn Triplets and The Rentals fame was their help during that era because she also did all the femme vocals for Bleed American.

ci0ci0san Rachel Hayden as far as I’m aware. She also sang on a weezer deep cut, amongst many other artist’s tracks.
