Candace Ion is right. In this cult, women are told consistently that they aren't as valued as males. Women are even instructed to believe that they cannot approach God in prayer if they aren't under authority of a man, either their husband or father. So Jill knows what the answer is. I had a friend who was a production crew manager for both the Kate plus 8 and the Duggars. He only said 2 things to me, but the would not elaborate bc of privacy: He enjoyed the 8 family but said Jon never worked and never helped out with anything and he had no respect for him, and The Duggars were not what they seemed. In the years since Duggars ended (he was not manager with counting on), he said he was completely in the dark about the Josh allegations, but he did not like the male dominance of JB and the boys over the women in the family.

Ok, I am a minister and there are NO tax advantages to being a minister of a church. NONE. For income tax purposes, we are just like another person, but for social security purposes, we are considered self-employed. That’s tight: We are taxed one way for one thing and mother way for the other. What does this mean for social security - or In a minister case, the self-employment tax. It means that where you pay 7.5% for SS and your employer pays 7.5%, but a minister pay the entire amount or 15%. If you are in a manse or parsonage, you must count this housing as income, paying tax on the fair rental $ of the house. Remember, you are NOT being paid the fair rental amount by the church - you are living in the house ‘free,’ - so you have to cough up $$ for this tax out of what you are being paid, even though you are not making extra income. If you don’t live in a manse but are paid a housing allowance, the. You add this to you regular income when determining the amount you have for self-employment tax, thus adding to the SE tax you pay. Now, most ministers are not mega-church pastors and often do not make a living wage, and they can’t raise the amount they charge for anything, but a self-employed person can raise the amount they pay themselves in order to pay this tax. Also, a church cannot pay you the amount you might owe because you have to declare that as regular income for tax purposes. In addition, a small church is often not part of a group to pay into health insurance, so a minister has to pay that on their own. Thank God for Obamacare because we had to pay upwards of $2500 A MONTH for health insurance, but that dropped down to about $1000 a month when Obamacare came into play. There was a time when a minister’s spouse had a paying job that a congregation would say, well the spouse works, so we don’t have to pay you as much because your spouse has a decent-paying job. Unless you are someone like Joel Osteen, you, as a minister of a regular local church, are going to live hand to mouth. Don’t speak of something you don’t know and just assume this wacko thing. So few accountants know the intricate ins and outs of minister’s taxes that we had to pay a small fortune to get an accountant to spend the amount of time necessary to figure it out! Believe me, I have lived it!

Growing up in the IBLP, it was rare to see a woman praised in any situation. But since my father was a pastor who didn't buy in to all of Bill Gothard's teachings, I got a little bit better understanding of the Bible. My mom was fond of telling me the stories of Jael and Deborah and Esther, and she always said "When men fail to obey God's will and follow God's orders, God will raise up a woman to do what those men should have done." Her viewpoints were wrong, but I'm laughing to see that she was proven right in this case. When the men failed to do the right thing, a woman did so, and if she was part of that church, that is an immensely difficult thing to do for any woman.

I have been asking this from the beginning. The few things Michelle has divulged about her family makes them sound like your average, everyday family. It's never been anything derogatory. It could be that they've asked to not be mentioned or shown on tv. I don't recall hearing whether they are local or not. Maybe they live in a different state. Of course, it could also be that her family is against their strict religion and her having so many kids. I would love to see an interview with her parents and siblings. I'd like to hear what they have to say.

In some states, it's no more than a 3 year gap and some are a 5 year gap. In Arkansas where these people are from, the age gap is actually 7 years. I can't say I'm not shocked. I live in a liberal state and we have no such law. Arkansas is not a liberal state. It doesn't make any sense to me, but it is what it is.

Why now….guilt perhaps? Maybe Bobye was coming into her own being stronger and standing up to Jim….hard to say. I think when it actually happened Jim would have hidden it more but Bobye said no he’s with our daughter but then a year or so later they gave him a second chance.
