Cool stuff, you take all analog jimmy gear.....through last two years searching yours is the exact type of video i was looking for. Thank you. And then that jazz clean...wow Could you post a long video of just playing clips, those sounds are amazing out of that period correct gear. Would love to hear more of that playing

Thanks Vivek! I've certainly been having a lot of fun with it. I'll see what I can do regarding a video with more playing clips - I've still got it all set up, so I'll just need to find some time when the kiddos are out and I'm not working so I can get loud again :). It's a holiday weekend here in the US, so there's a good chance I will soon. Anything in particular you'd like to hear? Happy to take requests on gear or music styles assuming my ok-ish skills can keep up. In terms of gear, I don't have everything, but I can often get my hands on a fair amount of stuff. In particular, I can try to get ahold of a Fulltone SSTE which can do the EP-3 thing a bit better than my Space Echo.

@@adjustablebias thanks for your reply... I want to hear more of the 1959 tele...perhaps a clip just with that tele and the echo would be beautiful...are you using flatwounds or pure nickels in you guitars? I wouldn't mind some doors tunes thrown in as well... The echo just adds magic to your tone. You could also a/d the two echo units. And don't forget to throw in that fuzz.....awaiting next video!

Jimmy specifically told Mitch Colby that he did NOT record the solo on the fourth album version of “Stairway To Heaven” using his modified Supro Coronado 1690T amp. This is contrary to every interview Jimmy gave previously. But I have personally confirmed this with Colby.

@@24ZEPACDCWhat amp? He didn’t say, only that he did not use the Supro. My guess would be the Marshall Super Bass with 4x12 cabinet, but it could have been anything. As far as the guitar used on the lead guitar during the guitar solo, yes it was the Dragon Telecaster.

I loved that tonebender sound you got. I got one of the last customshop mirror telecasters, and in saving up for that sundragon amp, do you know what tubes are in the limited edition? General electric and mullard? I want to try the NOS tubes in the standard 😁
@OFR
@OFR 2 жыл бұрын
They are modern tubes, I think JJ. But I tried various old tubes in mine - ended up with a mix, some Mullard and some Sylvania, but I liked some matched GrooveTube 6L6s as the power tubes.

Nice playing Thanks for the video and demo of this amp . Amp sounds pretty good . A little to pricey for my pocket .Ive been playing over forty years and have had many amps . I play through a 15 w bass breaker head which sounds pretty good ,has good break up at bedroom level and wasn't too expensive a few years ago . Also use a boss gt 1000 sometimes straight through PA if its a small gig and dont want to carry the amp . Also into to many genres of music to have on particular amp .Always like watching real demos of these amps . Thanks

dude, what microphone is this? sounds really good and roomy. how did you record this? thanks
@adjustablebias
@adjustablebias 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Most of what you're hearing in terms of roomy-ness comes from using a pair of room mics in mid-side configuration - one pointing forward and the other sideways to it at 90 degrees with a figure eight pattern, which is then doubled in the DAW with the phase flipped on one of the two tracks. I first learned that technique from a @thatpedalshow video, but here's a good article on it: www.uaudio.com/blog/mid-side-mic-recording/ The mic on the amp is a Sontronic Delta 2 ribbon mic - at the time I got it, it was pretty cheap compared to a Royer if you ordered it from Europe - looks like it's a bit more expensive now, but still a pretty good deal from Thomann relative to US dealers. It's a great mic, and dead easy - just place it dead center on the cone and go!

Awesome content! How loud does it have to be cranked to get the level of breakup heard in songs like Heartbreaker or The Lemon Song? Is there a channel that achieves higher gain at a lower Db level or is it similar to an old Plexi and you have to dime the volume?
@adjustablebias
@adjustablebias 4 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a mode or a channel for getting higher gain at a low volume. That said, the amp is relatively quiet (it's emulating the improperly repaired original) for its tube compliment, and it doesn't really get any louder as it you add gain past a point. It's not quiet - if other people are around they're not going to be able to have a conversation easily, but it's more like the volume of a cranked champ than a cranked Princeton Reverb even.

Im wondering how the standard is 4 grand..idk if its the echo or the room your recording in or the settings. The bad picking isnt helping with really hearing how the amp breaks up. I also didnt like the look of the sundragon website and jimmy likes money. I read into why fender only recently got him as an artist and why he didnt make a supro artist model to be fair i was having a hard time seeing the 1696Tj black magick reverb tremolo combo was around 1600, but that supro black magick did seem to break up nicer, have a ripping distorted sound at low volume, and was dead silent when not being played. I wish we could see that sundragon beside a black magick also that mirror Tele sounded awesome

I bought one, and sold ALL my other old tube amps including a 1966 Marshall plexi. I played around with tubes to find my favorite set. But it's the one amp I've ever played that satisfies everything I want. Its clean tone is amazing, but not bright, and the distortion is spectacular. I don't think this video captures the tone that well yet...

@adjustablebias

I mean, it is a well made hand built amp that took a fair amount of R&D to make with exclusive access to the original. I don't think they're making a killing on it. So I guess the price is justified - whether it's worth it to you probably depends on how much spare cash you have and how into Jimmy Page you are :).

This is gonna sound terrible, but I'm tired of watching videos of gear I may want, produced by people who can't demo them properly. This is probably an unfair statement, but I assumed at the beginning of the video that with all that high end gear, this guy was gonna shred, or at least put the amp through it's paces. I'm still unsure of what the amp actually sounds like!! Maybe a video isn't the best way to do my research.

After years of experimenting I came upon by accident a similar sound from my setup that cost me about 2.5k to achieve so the Sundragon amp is not far off in terms of quality it gives and where it is priced in a portable convenient combo; it sounds fucking awesome. Checkout the Seven Sins “42157” dual recording mic clip as it gives a combined full rich sonic picture of you guys recording your amps. The Sundragon Amp is straight 🔥🐉 .

@@adjustablebias in your humble opinion, have you ever come across any amp that sounds close to this? What can it compare to?
@adjustablebias
@adjustablebias 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobbystereo936 I'm not sure anything else nails it exactly, but a Tone King Falcon Grande in "lead" (Supro) mode is in the same ballpark, but a bit dirtier, and has reverb. One of the early octal Fender Princeton's would have about the same output and a gain sound that's more similar than later Princetons and Champs, but they're hard to find in decent condition. I'm sure a vintage Supro would be close, but I haven't played many. I don't think the modern Supros are really that similar.
