I've seen them live a few times, even done meet and greets with them. Really good, extremely humble hard working people. Technically she does have aditional vocal tracks on this song, but it's layering her own voice afterward to provide fullness. It's 100% Tatiana's voice and she can hit those deep (and deeper) growls live :) They actually don't know the history of the choice of the name Jinjer, and all of the original members are gone. This song was released to feature their new drummer at the time Vlad, as he had a diffrent take on it than the album recording with their previous drummer Dmitry Kim. I'd suggest "Perrenial (Live at Wacken 2019)" to get a look at what their are like live on stage. So many great songs, hope you enjoy the journey!

This live session has some post production with layering at least in a couple of spots, but the vocals are all Tatjana's. I second Eric Elliott's suggestion below on Perennial live from Waken 2019 - their live performance of "Who's Gonna Be The One" is also a great demonstration of her growling prowess.

The band is from the Ukraine. Tatiana wrote the lyrics and it is about 2 fish. Also her sign is Pisces. She is not using her vocal cords for the "growls". She is using her false larynx in the upper part of the throat. She is self taught. it's ALL her!!! The Ukraine government allowed to leave and tour representing their country. They have been touring the US. For more of Jinjer, "Teacher, Teacher" live is very good. Now you should react to "We Love Sweets" by Hanabie.

Her technique might be flawless, but unless all this switching adds to the dynamic and meaning of the song it is just an exercise in vocal tricks. Sorry, to me growls/grunts/unintelligible screaming is NOT singing, just noise.

@@alancarter41 Fortunately, Pisces lends itself perfectly to the theme and lyrics of the duality/yin & yang of pieces. I think their track "Home Back", written about growing up with war in Ukraine, also suits the switch of vocal styles.

All hail Queen Tati.... There's no fake in this band! They're an Ukrainian band that have stuck it out amidst war , a drummer breaking his back, a guitarist leaving for Hollywood and many other brutal circumstances! All the while traveling Eastern Europe trying to get heard! She's a generational lyricist with world class musicians that work their tails off! They're changing how metal can be composed with a drummer(Vlad) that is changing ,in real time , how drums can be played!! Love it or hate it you got JinJer army coming to watch all you videos! That's all her. She does it live and has been doing it at this point for about 15 years. There's no effect there or other person. It's a special vocal technique which is very hard to learn. Effects don't differentiate between the part of a voice which is done by the throat and articulation like "T", "P", "D", 'S". If a singer's articulation sounds exactly the same when they growl or scream as when they sing cleanly or talk then it's not an effect. Jinjer is excellent live. I have a KZbin playlist of live Jinjer videos you can look through if you like. Highlights would be Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air Pit of Consousness Live in Kyve Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal The playlist is here: kzbin.info/aero/PLhlYsqoR9XLEpHTbaOovrpa1p8L2uZ81G

First time reactions to Jinjer are always fun, Tatiana has the most extreme voice, from growls to cleans to screams to belting. There are no backing tracks or overdubs on this video. Musically they are extremely talented, this video was made to showcase Vlad when he joined as the new drummer, they are all outstanding, The song is based around being a fish hence Pisces and the mention of Neptunes child. There are several great tracks to look at Tatianas one take vocal of Judgement and Punishment is fantastic, one of my persoanl favourites is Teacher Teacher

Think of Pisces as two sides of someone. Tatiana is very talented. She is fully self taught. Her cleans are soaring and her growls are among the best. If you want to understand more about how growls are done without damaging the voice, watch Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice channel. She had the singer of Lorna Shore, Will Ramos, have a camera scoped down his throat while he sang with growls. It's an incredible video. For another singer like Tatiana, watch Alissa is Arch Enemy. Their song Highway to Hell is fantastic.

I could go deep into laryngeal anatomy, but suffice it to say that the dimensions, tension and dynamics of the true vocal chords do not have a mandatory correlation on similar characteristics of the false folds and other pharyngeal tissues which do the sound production in harsh vocals. One more thing on the use of multi-tracking ("layering", in the vocal community) : in the harsh vocals, some practitioners can recruit more than one tissue group at a time, making a more complex sound (we only have one set of true chords = one 'note'... but in harsh vocals you can add more from the root of the tongue and pharynx.) As far as an octaver? Nope... You know the characteristic sounds you get from a two-note cord in a simple have-wave octaver? (dropouts and glitches), there's none of that here... also, there aren't any of the additive trebly bits that you can find in many of the polyphonic octaver effects (even the rack units are prone to producing crispy bits of 'sizzle' on some of the octave'd notes. None of that here, ALL of the harsh vocals do come from her. Once you see the live performance clips (Perennial, Teacher/Teacher) you'll hear her without any studio doubling (used in a couple places on her clean vocals in this song, and maybe once in the final set of 4-6 lines.) That LOW frequency is all traceable to the size/volume of the vocal tract (think : pipe-organ pipe) and the size/tension characteristics of the non-true-chord tissues. Personally, I'd like to know if she has her tonsils. There are a few 'down-the-throat' laryngoscope videos of people doing harsh vocals, but I don't think any of them have displayed the camera-tube as it is passed from the maxillary sinus/across the soft pallet and down into the upper pharynx (that'd be where you'd see tonsillar tissue. With open space (empty tonsillar fossae), there could be more room for a lower resonance to set up. Anyway, they are a great band : each member is incredibly talented. Vlad, the drummer is a classical pianist (first), and writes much of their material.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, it's just a mellow introduction, she does this voice live in front of 80.000 and in small venues with 800 people, it doesn't matter. If it comes to vocal fry/growling Tatiana Shmaylyuk is considered to be one of the best. They've got a huge catalogue and are from warzone Ukraine. Best follow up is 'Perennial' live from Wacken 2019: a showcase of their abillities and skills in front of a very large audience. Nice that this introduction raises questions and curiosity cause it is not instant easy digestable music. I never liked this metal genre until I bumped into this extraordinary 4 piece unit. Keep on reactiing and have fun.

Jinjer is a band from Ukraine: Members: Tatiana "Tati" Shmaylyuk (vocals, and also lyricist for the band) Eugene Abdukhanov (bass) Roman Ibramkhalilov (Guitar) Vladislav "Vlad" Ulasevich (Guitar) Though there is some post-production on this song with the vocals, it's all her vocals. The reason she sounds so deep with her growls is that when she taught herself growling she decided she 'did not want to sound like a woman growling' and she practiced and practiced and practiced and kept practicing till she sounded like you heard just now. But don't take my word for it, Jinjer are a very good live band and there are a bunch of high quality live performances that are very much worth reacting to. "Perennial" live at Wacken 2019 is a faourite, but you can hardly go wronmg with any of their live video's. Some other good live performance video's are "Who is gonna be the one" at Ressurectionfest(lots of growling with a surprise twist at the end) "Pit of Conciousness" live in Kiev (or Kyiv as it is now usually spelled). Another great song to react to is Tatiana's One Take Vocal performance of their song "Judgment & Punishment", which is also a good showcase of Jinjer's habit to incorporate other genre's into metal, in this case Reggae. Another pretty impactful (and sadly very relevant today) song is "Homeback" which is an anti-war song, looking at the sudden onset of war from the persective of a civilian/child. Which was inspired by Roman, Tatiana and Eugene having to flee their hometown in eastern Ukraine during the annexation of the crimea in 2014 as well as the take over of large parts of the eastern Donbass region of Ukraine by russian backed separatists (their hometown Horlivka is right on the Donbass frontline both then and now).

You are entirely wrong re Tatiana's grows. If you want proof check out the many live videos here on KZbin. There are great live videos from Australia. Or check the Resurection Fest set from Spain. If you want to see a justifiably angry performance by this Ukranian band the recent Hellfest set is also up and seethes with rage at the invaders

Tati did however say in an interview, that they went back and she doubled her vocals in the last growling section to give it more depth. This you can clearly hear. Also she usually growls the last belting part when she sings on tour, as the growling is less taxing on her voice than the belting.

The song all rotates around the astrology sign which is two fish. The duality of people. Calm snd sweet one moment but the other dark side exists. To put the growling question for Krissy to rest you should watch Tatiana's one take go through for their song Judgment and Punishment. You'll see its all her. Here's the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2bVmJJsaLibp8lr Love what you do, your mic volume is a little low. Loved what I hear in To cross an Ocean. Looking forward to more. All the best from Canada 🇨🇦.

I first heard them with a sing Outlander (not when it came out but it kept coming up on a Spotify playlist after Suicide Silence’s “Love me to Death”. Then I delved into their discography and it is so good. Definitely has Opeth vibes as far of the song writing in prog metal, but they have just blown up after years of obscurity. I’m so happy for them to find success because they have worked so hard and if they were a US or a UK band they would have had success early on in their career as they are so talented 🤘🤘🤘

Althought every other fan around here is telling you that it's all her, you're not wrong when you say you hear a second track, because that's true. Many people don't understand the concept of a live session and how different that is from a live performance, since in live sessions the main track is all recorded on one take, but there's post editing and stuff added on post-production phase. What they did here and that anyone with some studio experience can notice, is that in several parts they doubled the voice, which means there's other takes of Tatiana (the singer) overlapping, specially on the growls. If you pay attention that's pretty clear during the chorus at the end of each verse, in which I assume the voice is actually tripled in terms of overlaps. Mind you that however, there's no effects being added (other then the regular compression) to the voice, so in a sense, the growl you do hear it's all her, it's just the impact it creates on this particular recording is stronger due to that overlap.. When you hear her in a regular live performance the range is still the same, because she's actually that good and mastered her false chord growls on a flawless level, but you don't get the same "kick" you get here since there's no overlap.

Support from Me, this is Ukraines 🇺🇦 secret weapon, to terrify the invaders! I can hear her normal voice behind her, maybe a track? Yes, she really can growl like this, she practiced for years, screaming into pillows! Love the bass and the drums too. Then she goes straight back to a delicate sweet voice... "Teacher, Teacher"

There IS a 2nd track for effect with higher vocals mixed with the low vocals in parts, but make no mistake, that's no octaver or harmonizer, that's the pint-sized Ukrainian POWERHOUSE that is Tatiana Shmayluk, and she can absolutely pull off those growls and go even LOWER live! All you have to do is pull up the live videos of "Perennial" live from Wacken, her live one-take version of their reggae-meets-metalcore masterpiece "Judgement & Punishment" or the live version of "Who Is Gonna Be The One" to see that's ALL her, and there are even raw studio recording takes of her doing that without any effects or processing. Tati is THE best triple-threat, singer/screamer/growler on the planet today, and she's also an incredible performer! Together with Eugene on bass, Roman on guitar and Vlad on drums, they are one of the VERY best and most fiercely original modern metal bands on the scene right now, and they've REALLY blown up over the past 3 years and have only gotten better and better with each new release. Welcome to the Jinjer Rabbit Hole, enjoy your flight!

Why we like it? Because they are really talented - each and every one of them, plus them all together. Because progressiveness. And because Tati (Tatiana) just is ❤ They´re from Ukraine. I´ll suggest you this one next: Judgement & Punishment kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2bVmJJsaLibp8k (so sweet kity-cat) The next suggestion will be more hard one. Beware and behold. 😥

Ps. The lyrics are important, too. She writes them all. "Judgement (& Punishment) / Jinjer We came from the lands Where kindness equals weakness Feelings are conditional And help is something supernatural Your judgements sign your own punishment Your judgements sign your own punishment Yes, it is what it is I know you're pissed off Narrow minds cannot believe What they hear An individual with bitter inner world Is a cause of deficiency of goodness and love Of goodness and love All your good intentions are muted and disabled (Booyah!) Tell me what you're gonna bring to the table Do you know we're gonna eat at the same table? This is what it is I know you're pissed off Narrow minds cannot believe in what they hear Their system of beliefs experiences stress Mental impenitence put into the test So if you are here To bring the atmosphere of fear Don't bother, brother Don't bother, brother The power of speech Is idled away Poison is spilt Dirty moths sting Sting Don't bother, brother We've seen things that can't be unseen Don't bother, brother That's exactly what makes us go even farther This is what it is I know you're pissed off Narrow minds cannot believe in what they hear Their system of beliefs experiences stress Mental impenitence put into the test Your judgements sign your own punishment Your judgements, your punishment"
