What are some aspects of Jiu Jitsu that would be effective for a street altercation? Comment down below and stay tuned for future videos on this subject!

tactical standup is a very good technique from some positions cause at the same time you get up you take your oponent down and you are free to focus on other attackers, the guy on the ground or you even can ruan away... I' d say the system is very good in 1 vs 1 situation cause there are plenty of good takedowns and once you are on the ground its all good. i think its more likeable a grappler gets a striker to the ground than the striker knocks the grappler quickly.

Jocko has the best argument on that. "street fights" must be avoided. is someone wants to strike you, you can just go away. and that is what you should do. only if the attacker grabs you you cannot go away. in that case you need to know grappling. And the rest is fantasy, since in the streets, namely against criminal aggressions, no martial arts work.

As a Bjj black belt I’ll say this is an excellent video! Couldn’t agree more. And I’ll add that training and sparring the scenarios you create based off of security cam fight footage WITH whatever combat sport you do and weapons/multiple opponents is the optimal way to train for serious situations. Sparring them will teach you what you need to know. If you’ve already got combat sports/civilian martial arts training that is a great stepping stone as some of it Can carry over. What doesn’t carry over, your going to have to fill in those gaps by experimenting. Again great video. I don’t see this discussed enough.

I was in prison for decades and saw all kinds of fights some professionals some killers. Bjj is the second best in real situations and boxing goes #1 karate and all other kinds will lose on street fight. I saw many deadly fights in the prison system i know what im saying. Strenght is the best quality to have. Second stamina.

jujitsu in old samurai Japan was for getting ready for losing your weapon and being thrown on ground, the first thing for samurai training was mastering the weapon in day , then in night or very dark surrounding, the second standup fight , jujitsu came next , last was self murder for respekt

I think Jiu jitsu by itself definitely isn’t the solution to street fighting, but if you want to learn to fight I think joining a jiu jitsu school that also has MMA, wrestling and some form of boxing classes is the way to go.

Brave to say that. It is very important to notice: You do not know nothing in the beginning - it is chaos! Are there multiple attackers? Weapons? Dog shit on the ground. In BJJ you learn as a white belt to become a chess player with techniuques and are focused on one guy, will not get hit and so on. I would recommend to train for situations on the street like they are going to happend AND with the right intend. We do not need another Mr Lo dead. I would highly recommend Urban Combatives.

I think less of his concepts today than I did 20 years ago, but Geoff Thompson once astutely observed that grappling is only a support art in the context of self defense/street fighting. I agree. But, now, I just train judo and BJJ for fun and competition. Street fighting is for fools. And for self defense, awareness, avoidance and keeping your mouth shut trumps all fighting arts and approaches.

I saw this video and had to chime in. A really good friend of mine is a purple belt. The statement that they can become way to confident is true. He can definitely tie someone up and make them regret a violent interaction. With that said, training in the safe environment that is a gym is soooo different than out in the world. We have had this discussion many times and here are my arguments that agree with your video. 1: A headbutt or any other violence out side of the rules of ju-jits used against them will surprise them. Take the back for example. If I headbutt backwards and then the rear guys head hits the concrete, that may sting a bit. 2:Most of the time it's not one guy vs one guy. If you are doing ju-jitsu on my buddy, I'm def gonna stomp on your head till you stop. 3: Weapons change all that skill into almost a death sentence if you are way to confident. If you are chocking me, I'm going to pull my 9mm with hallow points (everyday carry) and make sure you let me go. It's not the "manly" thing, but I'm going home to my family a winner, and my opponent can bleed out manly. This is not to say that ju-jitsu isn't dope. It is, but I %100 agree that people that train in the gym, may perhaps, have no idea how squishy they are in the do or die real life one chance to get it right type of scenario.

Whilst BJJ is an fantastic is not a know all and be all from a self defense prospective. There is a time when striking, mma and bjj is necessary in some cases knowing when to run or even walk away that is the true self defense deterrent knowledge.
