He came to San Francisco in 1959, Master Fook Yueng picked him up, took him back to Seattle. Fook Yueng was friends, and a fellow red boat opera performer with Bruce Lee’s father. Bruce lived above Ruby Chows restaurant, Fook taught Bruce Lee aspects of red boat wing chun, mantis, crane, chin-na, and tai chi, among other things related to performing and gung fu. In terms of boxing, he had exposure from Wong Shun Leung, when he came to US, his first student was Jesse Glover, and following students Ed Hart, and James deMile exposes Bruce Lee to boxing as well. Jesse also taught him Judo, as well as Fred Sato. He was doing long and mid range closing in his years in Seattle. From 4 to 6 feet away. His brother was a commonwealth fencing champion, at first he could get Bruce Lee, later he couldn’t, but Bruce Lee could close on his brother. But, his primary weapons were a super fast close, pressure sticking, and fast chain punch while moving forward. Aldo Nadi’s book is very good, and definitely an influence. Another book that should be mentioned is “Boxing: a self instruction manual,” which was also a direct influence.....

Actually Bruce was in a boxing club in High School ( yes, this was in Hong Kong). He was recorded as winning one tournament( don’t know the weight class). He also studied Judo in San Francisco; but he didn’t like grappling.

jopalo31675 whether he studied judo in San Francisco or not, I can’t speak to. He studied it in Seattle for sure, with his first student, Jesse Glover, who had been a judo player, and sone of Jesse’s teachers. Including Fred Sato. I’m a lot more familiar with the Seattle stuff specific to Jesse, Fook, and so on. Those earlier years, between 1959 through 1964/65.

@ I appreciate you taking the time to write. So I’ll respond. I’m not a Bruce Lee historian. I met and learned some stuff from Fook, and his longest student, David Harris, as well as from Jesse, and to an extent, Steve Smith. I do my own thing, I don’t bother anyone, or play politics. I know what I was told from them, and what I’ve found out from my own. Also, from what I’ve read from Jesse’s accounts, they differ greatly from what you’re saying. But, in the end, sadly the history is being changed or lost. I’m sure Bruce Lee was a very flawed man, being a human being, like the rest of us. I’m not my place to defend him. I believe in free will, and I have no interest in changing your mind. I think it’s very cool you met Wong Shun Leung and he was a brother to you. I would have loved to meet him. That said, I really dislike online arguments, calling people who are dead and can’t respond names, and will openly say that I disagree with the information you’re suggesting, and simply thank you for taking the time to write.

Muhammad Ali was using Sugar Ray Robinson boxing style. I met Ali many times in person in Chicago during the late 1960s when the government took his title away because he would not fight in Vietnam war. Muhammad Ali use to live in Chicago. I’m 70 years old and I still live in Chicago. I have never met Bruce Lee in person, but I met Muhammad Ali in person many times and his hand speed without boxing gloves is fast like Lightning flash.

It is well known that Bruce Lee was also influenced and trained in boxing by his good friend Leo Fong, and in grappling by both Gene LeBell and Wally Jay. Look at the grappling in the fight scene at the beginning of Enter the Dragon. He didn’t learn that from a book on boxing.

Which is why he teaches it as part of JKD in his school. Gene Lebell was a huge influence on Bruce. Which is why grappling is a part of JKD. I studied Wing Chun in the UK under Sifu Joseph Cheng, this was before Bruce Lee films hit the west and I believe Sifu Cheng was the first Chinese master to teach Wing Chun in the UK. He taught a way of punching I have never seen in Wing Chun teachings on the net. He taught us to use the bottom 3 knuckles with a vertical fist, the difference being the addition of an upward twist at the end of the punch, similar to a Karate punch twist but at 90 degrees to a horizontal Karate fist. The twist was drilled into the punch with repetition of the movement. Try it, trust me it works and adds more power to the punch. Try placing the fist on a training partners chin and just applying the upward twist. I used it once in self-defence and in combination with a tan sau block, caught the guy attacking me on the bottom of the cheekbone. It floored him and his cheekbone immediately swelled up to the size of a chickens egg! We always did knuckle press-ups to strengthen the wrist and encourage a very tight fist, obviously tensing up right at the end of the technique after throwing the punch totally relaxed. TRUST ME IT WORKS! Sifu Cheng was the real thing! I studied WC for 6 years before changing to TKD and practising that for 14 yrs reaching 3rd dan. I stopped WC when Sifu Cheng left the UK. Currently, at 66yrs old i am a Shotokan student.

And he actually did totally dump Wing Chun from JKD. He still used WC stuff in films...but insofar as his JKD, he dumped it. Dan Inosanto has stated so many times. Ted Wong has stated that also, to his top student Teri Tom who studied for years under Ted with over 1,000 hours of sparring with Sifu Ted in total. JKD used techniques and methods and principles MAINLY from fencing and western boxing with a tiny bit of savate and muay thai, judo/jiu-jitsu/wrestling etc. methods.

Yes, one must study the sources Bruce studied rather than taking Bruce's word for their validity without doing ones own research....People would frequently criticize Bruce as 'not being the originator' of this material having reproduced passages of it sometimes even word for word changing terms but what these critics miss is that Bruce was BRINGING TOGETHER ALL THE BEST SOURCES and using them to RE THINK LIMITATIONS with regard to what was PRACTICAL..In boxing as well as Driscoll's book he also read Dempsey's and Haislet's boxing.....The thing one also has to remember about Bruce was that he was LARGELY SELF TAUGHT.....Some people tried to say he was over rated not staying the course on Wing Chun for instance but people like Ed Parker said Bruce was a brilliant 'Auto Didactic' who could cut through the impractical to get to the practical very quickly and whose basics never faltered...He studied OLD school boxing for its mechanics and he saw the limits of Wing Chun in close and how with boxing counterattack it could be destroyed by angles and power...He indeed studied Muhammad Ali's technique in a mirror to observe Ali's style in reverse but I believe he did so NOT for practical scientific streetfighting because Ali's style being a SPORT would have been much too UNECONOMICAL in this more dangerous environment....He studied Ali more for the cinematic stuff in Way of the Dragon which he wouldn't have used for street in real altercations......One thing I might argue is that Bruce didn't lose most of the trapping from Wing Chun because he was patching up his own limitations having not finished all the stages of it...Rather Bruce jettisoned this stuff because he was becoming more RADICAL at applying these PRINCIPLES of SIMPLICITY to refine the art to make it more EFFICIENT in dangerous situations...These Principles of Economy originally came from Wing Chun but ironically they were not applying them radically enough (& certainly not as radically as Bruce was applying them)....For evidence of this we need to talk to those who knew Jesse Glover who had listened intently to Bruce's vision of 'fencing with the hands and feet' even if getting exceptional at this is VERY difficult to achieve....You mentioned Ted Wong,,,,Actually it was TED who used the metaphor of Wing Chun being 'the core of an Apple' of the Art....That JKD grew around the core but once the fruit has grown around it we don't eat the core....We jettison it to replace it with simpler ways relating to closing the distance fast on decisive targets by staying DETACHED rather than plugged into the opponent physically....Now,,,what about CATS ? ...Well' cats understand economy of movement better than humans if you watch how they don't trap each others paws before striking...As for cats hating humans,,, welllll,,,,,In my experience with looking after strays where I am in S.E England I've found if humans are mean to them then a Baby Bengal can turn into a Siberian Tiger...But conversely If humans are nice to them they generally can mellow into the PINK PANTHER .....a groovy cat,,,,a gentleman, a scholar & an acrobat.....and its as plain as your nose, (sings)..The-one-an-only-truly ORIGINAL JKD Panther from head to toes .....errrr,,,sorry....lol

What I am saying I don't believe the BULK of his boxing knowledge rested with them as some would like to have us believe. Sugar Ray Robinson was the boxer who influenced Muhammad Ali's footwork & and style of boxing! And Bruce Lee learned Muhammad Ali! So all & all , Sugar Ray Robinson was Bruce's Grand-Sifu!!

Because that person has a more bio- CONNECTED "understanding" with fighters from another time, doesn't mean Bruce required his boxing knowledge from them. Muhammad Ali influence Bruce's boxing knowledge, & Sugar Ray Robinson influenced Muhammad Ali's boxing knowledge! So ,in Theory, Sugar Ray Robinson was Bruce Lee's Gran-Sifu. @@thomashenderson7481 according to Chuck Norris, he and Bruce met in 68'. If you were to look at old footage of Bruce Lee, prior to 68', from old tournament footage: he was displaying high kicks. His use of high kicks are very evident from his days on, "The Green Hornet," which came out in 67." Also, check out the photo demonstrations from his "Bruce Lee's Fighting Methods," books. Those photos were taken prior to 68.' He is demonstrating all types of very high kicks. Again, those photos were taken prior to 68.' (Have we forgot his audition footage-from the mid 60's- where he is displaying high kicks?) My theory is that he acquired those high kicks from Choy Li Fut Kung Fu (a style he gave high praise), and Jhoon Rhee- considered to be the father of American Taekwondo. There are photos of these two together, during the time period in question, training. Furthermore, Jhoon Rhee even stated as much. Now, am I saying that Chuck didn't have an influence? No I'm not. I just believe that at times, his contributions to Bruce's high kicks are overstated. As far as Gene LeBell's influence: that's true.

As I understand it the 26 arts included ALL influences on JKD no matter how minor. For example most are just different Kung fu systems that influenced his view of Chinese martial arts. When you take those out you’re basically left with boxing, Savate, and Muay Thai for striking, kali and fencing for weapons, and wrestling and Jiujitsu for grappling. Boxing and wing Chun were always the main influences though, like 85-90% or so.

Bruce Lee even when he was a young boy was already an exceptional person and he learned fast and absorbed as much as he could in a very short period of time. As he grew older and met more and more interesting and exceptional individuals like himself, not only did he befriended them but also he learned ideas and skills from them or whatever talent they had he absorbed and improved and at the same time he was also developing his own style and increasingly innovated whatever knowledge he acquired. Moreover, he combined science and philosophy into his daily regiment of physical fitness and martial arts and lo and behold he became a sensational master of mixed martial artist...!!!

The list of people that Bruce Lee trained with are a who's who of martial arts legends. Aside from several Chi Sao sessions, Bruce did not train with Yip Man. Bruce Lee's main Wing Chun teachers and influences were Wong Shun Leung and Fook Yeung. The first evidence of Lee's genius were his modifications of his beloved Wing Chun which included the inclusion of the backfist. A day after his fight with Wong Jack Man, Oakland student Leo Fong suggested to Bruce that he incorporate Boxing techniques into his art, with an emphasis on hook punches and the use of angular attacks. During this time period, Bruce was also learning joint locks and holds from Small Circle Jujitsu founder Wally Jay, and grappling techniques from Judo expert Hayward Nishioka. In early 1966, the Einstein of Martial Arts then added Fencing techniques to his fighting method, leading to the birth of JKD. This fascinating mixture of Wing Chun/Boxing/Fencing was unlike any Martial Art in 1966, and it remains unique in 2019.

@@FrancisMaxino One of Bruce Lee's many strengths was his ability to set his massive ego aside and absorb ideas from other martial artists. Examples include learning Red Boat Wing Chun from Fook Yueng; Small Circle Jujitsu from Wally Jay; Judo/grappling techniques from Jesse Glover/Hayward Nishioka/Gene Lebell; Boxing from Leo Fong/Dan Lee/Joe Orbillo; kicking techniques from Jhoon Rhee/Chuck Norris/Louis Delgado; and Fencing from his brother Peter Lee. In terms of gate crashing Karate schools, Bruce only did that in the late 60's, and that only happened a handful of times. In one instance, he went into a karate school with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and another gate crashing event involved Bruce walking into the school run by the now discredited George Dillman. Bruce was borderline friends with Dillman and he asked George if he could spar with some of his senior students. Dillman allowed this to occur, but after Lee was "too rough" in these sparring sessions, George asked Bruce if he would just point spar with his senior students.

Sir? I totally disagree with you about Bruce Lee not learning Filipino martial arts! I explained, the man who some regards as the living father of Jeet Kune Do, Grand-Sifu, Dan Inosanto was one of Bruce's senior students and best friends. Sifu Dan is from the Philippines & is a Filipino martial artist! He & Bruce exchange ideas in martial arts pretty much the way Bruce and Chuck Norris exchange ideas to each other. It was Sifu Dan who taught Bruce how to use Kali sticks & the nuchaunus ( the double stick weapon with the chain in between them) Bruce didn't require the knowledge of using these weapons from Wing Chun ( the chosen weapons of the Kung Fu system is the 6 foot 6-in longstaff & Butterfly knives). Furthermore, those weapons are of Chinese origin and not Filipino. And Bruce CERTAINLY didn't learned how to use those weapons from Jack Dempsey!!! Now if you care to check those facts out , please do so. But, if you do be honest with yourself without lying to yourself. And know the facts as they R SHOWN! 😊 Always 😁 to help!

And frankly when it comes to the fight I would believe Linda Lee over anybody!!!! SHE WAS THERE!!! Pregnant with Brandon Lee. And according to Linda he beat that man it was no stalemate. Bruce Lee also said that JKD was not a fighting style. JKD is about bringing out your best inner fighter. That's why they called him the father of MMA

Nice points but regarding 10:26 and "no evidence of Bruce studying 26 martial arts". It's an exaggeration to speak about so many, but reading his Tao of JKD, Bruce certainly didn't only study boxing after WC. As with punches, he has named every possible type of kicking, and has provided accurate sketches of both Muai Thai and Savate. He has also provided pages of sketches with wrestling, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu techniques. He doesn't cover their whole curriculum, but it certainly shows that he studied them and kept notes of what he recognized as useful.

Bruce Lee didn't write that book. His students wrote that after he passed. His formal training was this: - Wing Chun 1956-1958 he learned Sil Lum Tao and half of Chum Kiu forms of Wing Chun's 6 forms. - Fencing preteen to 14 - Judo Dec 1959-1961 school Jesse Glover went to. - Northern Praying Mantis 2 months 1965 Learned Bong Bo Quan and a section of Tam Tui kicking drill Semi formal - Tae Kwan Do Jhoon Rhee 65-66 - Wu Taiji from his father 13-14 yo but he absolutely hated it - Hung Gar and more Wing Chun from James Yimm Lee 63-65. He learned a few Tiger and Crane techniques and rest of Chum Kiu - Yi Quan from his father's friend as a pre teen. Little bit of fighting philosophy. It's a formless system like JKD - Karate, Tang Soo Do and Kickboxing 1967-1970 under Joe Lewis, Jim Kelly and Chuck Norris. - Kenpo but just a little Ed Parker 1965-67 - Pencak silat Dan Inosanto just a little - Boxing from various 66-69 That's it aside from maybe a move or two from Choi Li Fut and Southern Mantis. He didn't actually study systems aside from Wing Chun, Judo and a little Northern Praying Mantis. I'm giving him that one even though he didn't even spend a whole 2 months at the school. He did have 3 good Mantis books which he read cover to cover and took notes on the applications and made a few adjustments. He knew a few moves so well they ended up in his 1963 Self Defense book. I think his copy of the Mantis book he made notes in sold for $88,000 in auction. But that's really it. What he did know it was obvious. I been doing Northern systems for 19 years and a few Southern for 15. His Tiger Crane section he did on that TV interview along with a piece of Tam Tui and Wu Taiji. There's also a nice picture of him in a Tam Tui transition. And a nice Hung Gar Southern White Crane beak strike. The N Mantis lolol is something that rhymes with blagerism. He copied them frame for frame. But he did study it a little bit two years later. And Mantis people get a kick out of it. Cause he does the technique 4 times in that short book and that Mantis side step drag parry Ping Choi to the ribs is only in N Mantis. His modified Lop Sao grab grab rolling backfist is also straight from Mantis. So JKT, my take on his arsenal? Karate/TSD/TQD point fighting from the 3 point fighters; TKD/TSD from Jhoon, Boxing, Mantis which looks like WC but it's Mantis (I do them both), little Judo and WC's Tan Sao and Bong Sao. It's more than just Boxing and WC. Because his closing the gap skip in side and diet-roundhouse are Chuck, Joe and Jim.

Oh and Muay Thai in the book was Dan Inosanto lol. He did some. But Bruce didn't do anything close to a Thai kick or guard etc. His grappling was stand up part was Judo... throws and take downs. On the ground was Gene. Judo is like Shuai Jiao. You don't really train on the ground. Gene knew real wrestling which is another level. Several levels. It's used to deal with elite BJJ people.

Y'know, I've never understood the adamance over firmly establishing what Bruce Lee did and didn't study and/or train in. He encouraged Dan Inosanto to explore his culture's martial arts, and as soon as he came back from any Kali class, he’d go, "Okay, Dan, show me what you learned today!" How do you think he picked up his famous nunchucks in the first place? One time, Dan showed him some stick work and when he was done, Bruce went, "Okay, this is what I would do," and basically improvised a routine from, I believe, Largo Mano, something Dan knew he'd never seen before. How’d he do that? Well, like everything else in his art, Lee understood the weapon to the point where he figured out the same combative solutions others had. He simply-wait for it-absorbed what was useful. So given that ability and mindset, is it really so hard to accept that he possibly studied 26 different arts-who knows, maybe more-and what he chose to keep eventually resembled boxing, fencing, and a little Wing Chun? Does the notion of examining other things somehow taint the final product? Because if it does, you might be concentrating less on the moon and more on the finger pointing to it.

Awesome video. I am wondering where did the grappling come from? I have started up with Syracuse Martial Arts Academy which teaches Wing Chun, JKD and Kali. I haven't taken too many JDK classes yet but there seems to be a lot of it that is oriented to grappling, takedowns and judo similar ground fighting. Some of the classes are basically 1 hour of judo which really isn't something that I want to be doing, even though I probably SHOULD want to be doing judo. The physical fitness portion of the class at the beginning also relies heavily on 3 ground exercises geared toward ground fighting and one is called "shrimping". Did Bruce Lee's JDK contain a shit ton of judo / wrestling or did that get introduced later by various people looking to add their own favorite martial arts to JKD?
@JKDandWingChun
@JKDandWingChun 2 жыл бұрын
To answer your question directly, it was added. I will say, however, that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing for two reasons. One, Lee himself was dabbling in it so it’s kind of inferred in the method. Second, judo is highly effective for a self-defender (after all, when man meets asphalt, asphalt is undefeated). Of course, this assumes that the instructors are upfront with you about the whole thing. No, judo isn’t central to JKD. I think the whole thing is about communication and intellectual honesty with the student. All of us have a bias, that is to say an basic premise. Mine is that the intercepting fist methodology meets the needs of the self-defender expertly and most of our training should go to that end. Anything else is auxiliary. In our school we do lots of boxing because I think it’s the safest way to develop timing and accuracy under pressure. But again, it’s my job as the instructor to educate the student about all that and not go down a rabbit hole. Hopefully that all makes sense and your training is going well.

Good and very well researched video. I have always wondered why Lee didn't explore Muay Thai or have a greater regard for it. Maybe because he came back to the US as a relatively young man?

@VINCENTNATTI Hey Vincent, good to hear from you. From what I have seen Bruce drew very little from Muay Thai. I have never seen Lee throw a knee or elbow. Nor did I ever see him throw a Muay Thai/Lethwei round kick. Lee did mention Thai Boxing in The Tao of JKD but it is really not that flattering of a review. In fact it is almost word for word the same review given by Robert W Smith in Asian Fighting Arts. I don't think Lee gave it much of an overall rating than what he gave Tae Kwon Do. I have to say that I am really surprised at his lack of interest. Yes, the Thais are probably better now and they have incorporated some western boxing concepts into their training. With that said I would say on average your run of the mill Thai was probably better than most of the 1960s Karate stylists that Lee encountered in the states. I have seen the Choy Li Fut quote before. Do you know the source of this quote?

@VINCENTNATTI Does he mention the jab and hook as being inadequate? That description is almost word for word the same as what Robert W Smith stated. I have heard the same type of critique in regards from others. Compared to western boxing they are correct I guess. Im also surprised that the martial arts community in the 60s seemed to have been oblivious to the Vale Tudo events that were held in Brazil . I think prior to his death Lee began to have more regard for Muay Thai. Seems like Inosanto was kind of the catalyst for this interest.

@VINCENTNATTI I remember reading a Black Belt magazine around 1973 that had an article about a Karate stylist who was Japanese Brazilian. Otherwise I don't any mention about anything in Brazil. Like I said earlier Robert W Smith was also somewhat critical of Muay Thai. On the other hand he was very biased towards internal boxing such as Tai Chi. There are full contact competitions in Taiwan but I think pro Muay Thai is more polished overall.

Great video. I was impressed that you didnt perpetuate the myth of why Bruce fought Wong Jack Man.

Bruce li's techniques also comes from high caliber shaolin combat exponents. I have witness some very high caliber shaolin that are equal or faster than Bruce, shaolin can generate very powerful punch or push through internal energy training

What about his kicking techniques?

Exactly. Certain instructors (and members of the Lee family) for political reasons want to ignore the fact that Sijo Lee learned -- and taught --more than gung fu, boxing, and fencing. It's just quite disingenuous to say that Jun Fan/JKD is only Wing Chun, Western boxing, and Western Fencing. None of those systems teach you to kick as what's taught in Jeet Kune Do. Smh.

If you haven’t already, look at Jack Johnson’s boxing style. Johnny Famechon, who you likely have not heard of, was a fly weight boxer whose defensive skills saw him win a lot but notably, was never seriously hurt in the ring. Famechon traces his style directly from Jack Johnson. Famechons book is more than likely out of print, but you never know. Just a suggestion since you have an interest in the area and what you find might be of value to your skill set.

Spot-on! Agreed. This 13 minute video is in a sense a moot point, because Bruce Lee ALREADY divulged who taught him, by way of conveying verbally and physically, everything about Jeet Kune Do to the current teachers of Jeet Kune Do (the direct lineage of Bruce Lee to Grandmaster Daniel Inosanto, the direct lineage of Daniel Glover, Taky Kimura, Ted Wong, and the teachers under Poteet’s extended lineage UNDER Bruce Lee), so in nutshell one does not NEED Greenville Academy to regurgitate what has long been known by the Inosanto lineage UNDER Bruce Lee, the Ted Wong lineage UNDER Bruce Lee, etc, etc. One could also ask the daughter of Bruce Lee and Linda Lee Cadwell, none other than Shannon Lee who is in direct control of EVERTHING Bruce Lee and Jeet Kune Do, by way of the Bruce Lee Estate.

thecrowrains what the heck are you babbling about? Lots of people find JKD and are quite confused about the m disconnect between Ted Wong JKD, JKD Concepts, and frankly the many people who claim to teach JKD but are frauds.

@@user-qy1ie4fp8l Whoa, guy you just tossed in an authentic Jeet Kune Do name specifically Ted Wong, with JKD-Concepts, then included an extremely vague description of ″many people who claim to teach JKD but are frauds″. Sounds like it is YOU who needs some education on the matter. Here is what you need to do right now: separate Ted Wong and by extension his Jeet Kune Do lineage that still teaches under his name and Bruce AWAY FROM anything related to concepts. Concepts are NOT authentic Jeet Kune Do. Concepts started under Paul Vunak who is NOT official Bruce Lee lineage! Vunak was 14 years old when Bruce Lee had already died; far too young to ever be a Bruce Lee protege. Vunak was considered a protege but he never studied under Lee, instead occasionally under Inosanto. Vunak at age 10 started studying Taekwondo, getting his black belt four years later at age 14. Vunak was born in 1960. If you do that math that means he was 14 upon receiving his Taekwondo black belt in the year 1977. Bruce Lee sadly died 4 years prior. Impossible to be a protege. Grandmaster Inosanto, a direct student under Bruce, did occasionally mentored Vunak, but Vunak went out on his own and created concepts. The authentic lineages UNDER Bruce are Ted Wong, Taky Kimura, Inosanto, Daniel Glover. If confused contact the Bruce Lee Estate, run directly by Shannon Lee.

thecrowrains I think you misread my comment. I outlined the three general types of schools people run across when finding JKD: Ted Wong JKD, Concepts, and other. There are some 'other' which are legit lineage from Bruce students, but there's a lot more people who claim to teach JKD but are fakes. Even without the 'other' camp, people finding JKD are often confused as to what it is, because of the history of JKD, specifically due to Bruce's premature death. Why is Concepts strong hand back? Why do these guys use sticks? Why do all these schools teach Muy Thai and JKD classes? Is JKD the practice of taking things from other arts and making it your own? Should we just trust what Bruce came to by the end of his life and accept that as JKD? These are questions new practitioners and curious people ask. The point of my comment is to say that "Just go ask Bruce's widow" is a silly statement to make. Thousands of people discover JKD for the first time every day. It's simply a fact that the history and definition of JKD is unclear. We owe it to Bruce and to our art to spend time making it clearer.

@@user-qy1ie4fp8l Understand your confusion, it is messy in this era of social media where any yahoo can claim to be something she/he is not. I left out some other names that studied directly under Bruce, but did not want to bog you down with excessive info. I would highly recommend reaching out to the Bruce Lee Estate, run directly by his daughter who is in charge of everything legal-related, everything publicly rendered (film, tv, etc). She or her staff may offer an official school-instructor list. I understand Khan Loo’s comment, for he/she is right that Linda Lee Cadwell WOULD KNOW all there is to know about Bruce Lee’s authentic Jeet Kune Do (as would his daughter). Logistically speaking the widow is not making herself publicly available, whereas his daughter by running the Bruce Lee Estate, is. Lastly, if you are in California you could visit Grandmaster Daniel Inosanto’s studio to ask him/them yourself. Inosanto trained-with and starred-in Bruce Lee’s films. He would be an awesome resource.
