As someone else stated James Bennett now works in Hollywood and as well as movies also has a Dojo. Fatal Deviation was shot in Trim County Meath in Ireland where they also shot at least two other movies , not quite as low budget, Braveheart and The Big Red One. It started out as a showreel for James and grew, All the "actors" were locals , the Gangster boss was local Solicitor (Lawyer) Michael Regan . The lad that got kicked over my Mothers garden wall was my brother Peter Crinion (and yes the cry was real ) . James works with JCVD regularly and they are friends. Best of all filming of the sequel starts next year (2023) with I suspect a much bigger budget and real actors. to be fair James had a dream and the ambition and determination to go for it and didn't do too badly out of it. When I see Fatal Deviation I see a bunch of friends who went for it and had a load of craic (fun not the illegal drug lol) and fair fu*@ks to them. Proud of you Jimmy..

A word of advice, Jason. When in Ireland, please observe the proper local etiquette: "as you enter a local country pub, please remember to dropkick the doormen, as is tradition, and enter to sample the fine ales and local produce. Fun fact, the main villain of this movie was a member of the Irish boy band: Boy Zone. They had a number of top hits in Europe! Also the guy who came outbin his just his underwear and got ass out in the outdoor bath was the person who financed the movie and wanted his a scene in the movie! I learned that little fun little facts from when OSW (Old School Wrestling) Review did a review of this movie. I have to say your watch along was just as funny as their review! Although because they are Irish, they have a little more credibility. However since your channel reviews only movies, more specifically martial arts films, and they mostly review Wrestling, your channel wins the movie credibility! Not gonna lie for a moment I though some absolute legend had made a small budget movie with traditional Irish martial arts. Those actually do exist and are broadly separated as Dornálaíocht (boxing), Coraíocht (wrestling), Speachóireacht (kicking), and Bataireacht (stick-fighting). Now the first 3 are kinda basic, but Bataireacht is a martial art about fighting with with bata, the Irish word for stick. Mind when they say stick, they actually mean a Sail Éille (anglicised as shillelagh). So it's quite big stick. And there is actually a story to go with said martial art that would make for a good movie. During the 18th century the martial art was used by Irish gangs, called factions. There were a lot of fight and clashes back then. Then in the 19th century those smaller factions ended up uniting in two feuding large federations: Caravat and Shanavest factions. As the fighting between them grew more savage, the martial arts were cast away for the use of guns and improvised weapons. There is a lot of meat in Irish Martial Arts is what I am trying to say.

I can’t believe Im actually seeing this! I was going to recommend it to him but glad someone took the initiative! Hops out of the plane and the old guy goes “how was Hong Kong”.. only it’s an absolutely wrecked 2 seater Cessna that would barely get to England , never mind Asia! But this is completely True. Around 2008 my buddy was finishing film school, and because there was a bit of a cult following of Fatal Deviation , and just for fun he arranged a screening of it in another mates pub in Dublin city. Only about 100 people ended up coming.. But No Joke , Jimmy Bennett IRL wasn’t happy, threatened to “Kick his head in” then said he’d sue him and the pub. My mate was just laughing at him , but he actually went as far as getting a lawyer to send some type of a cease and desist letter. Total douche! It was actually a pretty funny night just like this review except about 100 pretty drunk people absolutely destroying every aspect of this horseshit!! When the old monk came out with the bagpipes I DIED. I absolutely adore how Bennett took all the familiar martial arts film tropes but tailored it to fit his own culture. Better yet I love learning in the comments he achieved quite a bit in life. This is a great example of no matter how amateur, how "bad" something you create is it's still all worth it when you put the hard work in.

This film is based on the Irish Branch of American Kenpo, which is why you see the form (and yes, that was a real Kenpo form. Coming from older styles of martial arts as my base, I'm gonna put this kindly - they are...unique.And I'm sure they have applications behind them that mean something to the Kenpo community.) and the name of the movie is actually the name of an American Kenpo technique. This movie is basically if Jeff Speakman's "Perfect Weapon" did an Irish Pub crawl, while also ripping off Jean-Claude Van Damme.

You know the scene at around 8:25 where he's practicing/dancing on the hill? That might *actually* be a Kung Fu form (kata). I took Kung Fu classes a very long time ago, and that closely resembles something my old instructor taught. I'll be damned. Or is it: "I'll be Van Dammed?"

@@JasonBrant I think you guys were right, too. He was definitely the hooligan and the bad guy in the film. Although the old Irish katana wielding mob boss on the plane (I never once thought I'd type that sentence) was clearly a villain, too. Rawhead Rex is an Irish horror movie. My memory of it is very hazzy (we were wasted) but it might be something you guys would enjoy. The star of Fatal Deviation, James Bennet ended up starring in a movie with Van Damme so his dreams came true in the end.

@@JasonBrant Yep, I've never seen the movie, but I did see another review/video podcast on it from the channel OSW Review. The hosts are from Ireland so they did a video on it and that's when I heard the name "Seagull". I was really hoping for a reaction in this, but that's okay as the audio is so bad you probably missed it. I really recommend checking out OSW's video on it as well as their review of The Room, No Holds Barred, The Happening and both Mortal Kombat movies. They find out a lot of behind the scenes information on the movies as well as review the movies.

I positively love this one! This is the definition of SBIG. I love the concept (an old-school style Kung Fu film with Irish characteristics.) I love the simplistic story line (also in accordance with old style Kung-Fu films.) I love the homage to my hero growing up, Van Damme (deal with it.) And I love the 80s action film tropes that are the screenplay. This one's a gem. Thanks Jason!
