I used to train amateur boxing and sometimes we would share training sessions with the greco-roman wrestling athletes. Their physical conditioning is insane!

As a former wrestler I love the credit that’s given. I love the sport of wrestling, Graeco-Roman, Freestyle/Folkstyle, etc. MMA and the UFC is the cherry on top for me.

Wrestling for the takedown, Jiu jitsu for damage on the ground and a form of striking is all you’ll ever need.

Honestly if you wrestled for a while you wouldn't even need to add much BJJ to your game. WIth wrestling you learn so much about pins, escapes and takedowns. All you need to add are some guard and mount principles with some submissions which wouldn't take wrestlers long to pick up on.

@@nba_fan7214 reverse that and the same can be said for just doing BJJ with a bit of wrestling on the side 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@IamDude2 Yea probably true but it's a lot harder to start BJJ from a young age because of the cost. Wrestling is available at a lot of schools across the US and through high school. Also wrestling requires more athleticism and conditioning than BJJ does due to a greater emphasis on stand up game. Most BJJ gyms that I know of focus very little on takedowns. Not trying to downplay BJJ as I practice it myself but I think if I had started with wrestling first I'd have learned it much faster.

@@nba_fan7214 in the UK, despite Catch being from here, BJJ is much more mainstream. Each city has probably 6-8 really good BJJ schools vs probably 1 wrestling centre. The BJJ school I go to has a wrestling coach to learn wrestling as an addition. Conditioning wise I’d say they’re different but both very intense for different reasons, wrestling is very explosive and dynamic in short bursts, JJ is all about the grind for longer periods.

@@IamDude2 Ah yea it's probably just different environments then. Not every school in the US has wrestling available, but a lot of them do starting in middle school. My school had wrestling programs after school starting at 6th grade (so like age 11) and it was either free or very low cost. Compare that to BJJ where yes we have a lot of good BJJ gyms as well but you're paying a monthly fee every month which gets pricey (usually it's like $100 a month for kids). Wrestling is just a much more affordable option and you get the same benefits if not more.

Not wrestling is my single greatest regret in life. My dad put me in boxing as a kid but if I could go back I’d go all in on being a wrestler

At wrestling practice, we punish ourselves for losing before the match takes place. That way, we can win knowing we've already paid for it. If you don't win, don't worry. There will also be plenty of punishment afterwards.

I did wrestling for 4 years in high school and captain one year. He’s right, wrestling training is dead ass hard, most of the time ur leg bottom are so sore that u can’t even walk and sit down. Especially when u have tournaments 3 in a row and they still expect you to fight another one. Ur muscle has not power at all. Most importantly is the psychological pressure during matches. When u wrestle the result keep turning and u need to standup.

Wrestling is a way of life either your in or out and by far the best condition out there. Am a Wrestling coach for are club and we have 10yr boys and girls that can out condition high school football players it's. Don't get me wrong I respect all sports out and the players that do them. My advice if you want better conditioning get on the mat and train with wrestlers. #Wrestlingforlife
