I am so glad you took out the time to speak on and critique this movie, Allie Beth. Movies such as this when poorly made, end up causing more confusion and problems with people that won't necessarily pick up the Bible and read it for themselves (which is VERY IMPORTANT TO DO!), but instead, they tune in and watch a movie, just ASSUMING it's going to tell them the truth of what transpired in the Gospels. Ugh...Poor Mary as the servant of God has really gotten a bum rap for the last 2,000 years, and has been very misunderstood as a person and her role that the LORD God had her play while living her life in Nazareth, as a JEWISH woman, in a JEWISH neighborhood, betrothed to a JEWISH man, hoping to have many children and looking forward to her life with him. Biblically, we KNOW what happened. Some of man's traditions have gotten in the way of everything, and it has made it harder for people to know the truth from fiction when it comes to people like the Lord Jesus, Joseph, and Mary, and the way they had to live their lives out once these prophecies of the Son of God being born to man started to come to pass during Mary and Joseph's lifetime. Many people do not understand Mary's role in the Bible. She is the fulfillment of Isaiah 7:14--the LORD God CHOSE her to be the mother of His Son. In order for her to carry Him in her womb, GRACE had to be placed upon her so that her inherent sinful human self would be made "pure" so that she could carry the sinless Savior of the World. IF the LORD God did NOT do that (hence the reason why Gabriel came to her and said, "Hail Mary, FULL OF GRACE") to and for her, she would NOT have been able to carry the sinless Word of God and birth Him. Growing up as a Catholic, they did not explain well enough biblically, what Mary's role was to us. The Holy Spirit took over that for me about four years ago, when He knew I was ready to receive the truth about her, and respect her more than I ever did before (I left the CC over thirty years ago, and only went back recently to attend the TLM; I love to attend non-denom biblical churches and messianic congregations as well). I heard of this movie, but had no idea Joel was behind it. There would be no reason to have all these so called "theological" and unbiblical "experts" like Muslims, Mormons, etc. having any say whatsoever in a movie about Mary, Jesus, etc. to begin with. Both of those are cults anyway, and there was no such person as a "Muslim" back then. There were those who definitely prayed to the demonic entity "Allah", but again, it was 600 years later when Mohammed came on the scene, with his false claims of Gabriel meeting up with him, etc. Anyone who knows the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word, and has a solid relationship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit dwelling within them, will know when a movie such as this is not worth watching after a few minutes or so of it being on. The Holy Spirit will usually let us know not to even waste our time, especially since (and sorry, no offense, but...) it has a connection with Joel Osteen.

In the words of Pope Pius IX: "The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin." CCC 491 Protestants and Catholics may disagree on the Immaculate Conception but we are definitely in agreement that the grace Mary was full of was wholly from God and not of herself. We agree that she was favored by God and the favor he blessed her with is what is so special about her. She is a humble servant of the Lord and an example for every Christian to also say "Behold, I am a servant of the Lord. Be it unto me according to His will." You misunderstand what is meant by mediation, and prayer. We are called to pray for one another, and are united with all the saints in heaven. The Communion of Saints is not possible by our power, or the power of the saints, it is possible because of the Will of God. Asking the saints to pray with us, and for us, is no different than asking friends and loved ones to pray with us, and for us, except they are not distracted, and tempted, by the stress and evil of this world. They are face to face with Jesus. I urge you go read Revelation. The prayers of the saints are poured onto the alter as incense. Mary is described as Queen of Heaven. She said her soul magnifies the Lord, she points us to her Son, and teaches us how to follow Him. She asked Jesus to perform His first miracle at the wedding of Cana. On the Cross, Jesus said “Behold your mother.” He wasn’t only asking John to take care of His mother, but everything Jesus said, while dying on the cross, was for all humanity, for all time. When you ask your friends and family to pray for you, they are mediating for you. When we ask the Saints, and especially Mary, they are mediating for us in the same way, but they’ve already been cleansed of their sins, and don’t have all the distractions of this world.

I will never condone murder and yet it’s interesting to see the way established, higher-than-average-income commentators talk about this, as if what the culprit did was unique. Insurance companies also walk past thousands of people as they die, and deny people who have been working and paying into that system for years, and profit from that denial. They celebrate with the riches they make from that model. And most of the richer conservative commentators are no longer in touch with what it feels like to watch that, to watch people go bankrupt while sick, for a denial to change someone’s life, or contribute to the end of it. The thousands of people wronged by insurance is the footnote instead of the story. The story that established media commentators are most appalled by is ultimately about when the elite suffer. (Which again, I do not approve of.)

I’m a lifelong, devout, Catholic. The previews of this film looked suspicious to me. All the reviews I’ve seen, have been extremely troubling. There was no reason to change Scripture, and portray Mary’s personality as bold and rebellious. That said, the way Allie explains Catholic doctrine on Mary, is not completely accurate. It comes across as obtuse, or an intentional misrepresentation. No, most of your Catholic friends (at least the actual, practicing Catholics, who understand Scripture and theology) do not recommend this movie. All of the Catholic commentators and theologians are speaking out against this movie. It’s very sad, to me, not only, that a man who claims to be Catholic, has directed it, but that unsuspecting people will see such a false portrayal of Scripture and Apostolic Tradition.

Allie your doctrine about Mary was so good and we loved hearing it but when you said God gives and takes away that isn’t, that was what Job said Jesus came to give us life and give it more abundantly. The devil came to steal, kill and destroy, but you’re doing a great job and love to listen to you

Allie - have you heard of the book: "The 5 Habits for Being Good News"? My church Community Bible Church in San Antonio does classes based on great Christian books and this was one I stumbled into. One of the 5 habits is hospitality. It's a very short read and I highly recommend!

Mother Mary was the most humble servant of God- her YES was the grace God allowed to start the salvation of the world caused by Eve's NO that Adam caused in the great fall. She loves all humans as her own children, and God wants us to love his momma just as he does. Love is not worship. Worship means sacrifice. Keep studying and walking your journey to learn more of what Catholics actually believe Allie. It is truly beautiful and a gift from God. Her motherhood is a gift.

Mary is not our mother. She was the earthly mother of Jesus. God used her just like He used Moses, David, the apostles, etc. Not one single writer of the scriptures ever elevates Mary or suggests she was sinless. Yet the CC does both. Mary would be horrified at the adoration. She knew better.

These Bible verses show that even Jesus did not elevate Mary to superior status. “While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”” Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he pointed to his disciples and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!” Matthew 12:46-50

Even with the “wrong” of this movie…this is still better than most of the trash available to viewers. Hopefully it will get secular people to take a look at the roots of the movie, and crack open a bible. Let the Holy Spirit move and see what happens. As a Catholic, I can tell you, Jesus is the one mediator, always and forever. “Through Him, with Him, and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.” My favorite words to hear on Sundays.

Poor people get the best insurance. My daughter was on Medicaid for a little while and she had Cadillac insurance it covered everything. I on the other hand am lower middle class and chose to let a broken finger heal on its own because I cannot afford my deductible. But would I EVER condone murdering the CEO of an insurance company ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I am sickened by people who celebrate the murder of a man because they don’t let agree with his business practices.

Mike Winger did a video showing how the movie and some Catholic beliefs about Mary are based on the false Gospel of James. He reads and comments on the entire book, and it becomes pretty clear.

Not it’s not. Marian dogmas come from Sacred Tradition. The fake James document contains BOTH truth and error ( like most spurious “gospels”) which is why the Holy Catholic Church REJECTED it.

The Church as a whole has fed a lukewarm message about God and preached a devil with so much power! When Jesus's own words said Luke 10: 19.Behold, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you. 20. Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the evil spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” 21. At that time Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. .

Haven’t seen this but I do feel like Journey to Bethlehem did the same thing. It changed a lot of stuff that didn’t need to be changed. It really bothers me how it ended . It shows Harold’s son showing up and the wise men telling Mary and Joseph to leave. It doesn’t show Joseph being told in a dream to take Mary and Jesus to leave to Egypt in a dream. I wanted to like the Journey to Bethlehem movie but it makes me cringe.

I did watch that movie but it was a year ago and would need to watch it again to comment properly but I do recall possibly thinking along your lines. . As a Christian I can watch something and think that they have used a lot of “poetic license “ in that show. My concern is for people who don’t know the Bible well enough and so they end up believing the narrative to be the Bible when it isn’t.
@arlenemartinez406710 сағат бұрын
So I’m not gonna see the movie, and mainly it’s because I just don’t support Netflix. Nor do I think that Mary is any more special than we all are to God. I do believe that she was a vessel that God used just like we can all be used. I think it might be a way of showing what God can do when we are obedient. I understand that you would like for the movie to be more Christ centered, but the creators were clearly focusing on her obedience. I do think like you said that it should have stayed biblical and not make her out to be like this goddess, however, we do have to understand that the movie is not merely about Jesus, ..clearly. I don’t think that that’s what they were aiming for but the “possible experience” that Mary had. Again I haven’t seen the movie to have a concrete opinion about it just going based off of commentary, but I would think that it’s centered around Mary because it’s precisely from “her point of view”or what she “might have lived.” It’s important to know that it’s entertainment. I think that the danger lies when someone doesn’t know the gospel, when all they know, is religion and not relationship, it can cause them to believe that these movies are reality or the real depiction of the Bible specially because a lot of so-called Christians are not actually reading their word or studying it.

1:01:13 i assume you dont believe in the communion of saints then?Do protestants not say the apostles creed? You should have Keith nester on your show and have him explain Mary and why he converted to catholicism from protestantism despite his initial beliefs about Mary which are similar to yours and why he changed his mind. It would be a good conversation that i would definitely watch. I find it interesting how Protestants think catholics are so wrong yet us Catholics think protestants are wrong and completely misunderstand our beliefs.
