I live in California (a couple of hours away, near Sacramento), and I hadn't heard about the news involving those kindergarten boys until now! I'm so thankful to hear they survived-thank God . This story is truly heartbreaking. My husband and I have two young boys, ages 4 (almost 5) and 6, so this really hits close to home. Sending heartfelt prayers for those precious boys and their family, as well as for their classmates and the school staff. 🙏

Allie - I wish Christian film makers would make a film about George Muller and the orphan houses he began in 1800's England. He never asked for money for the orphan houses but brought EVERY need to the Lord in prayer and EVERY need was met. I encourage everyone to read his autobiography. This is the kind of faith needed today in the church.

The Mary movie was an abomination from start to finish. The only reason I kept watching was morbid curiosity to see what crazy thing was going to happen next. It’s like they took multiple Bible stories from the Old & New Testaments, added some fictional stuff that never happened and put that all in a blender and mixed it up and dumped it out in movie form. This takes away one of my favorite things about Mary…her role as wife and mother & also Joseph’s role as husband to a young woman he’s betrothed to (I studied this & found the betrothal at the time meant basically to be married for one year but not consummated.) If anyone else has studied to find out differently, please let me know! My point is, think about being 14 & telling the world you’re pregnant but you haven’t had sex! Even people who love us are still going to be thrown by this! And she had to be a bit nervous to wonder what Joseph would think, even just right at first!😮

Pam: we are all PARTS of the Body of Christ, some more beautiful than others, some not quite so pretty, for examples butt holes, to be frank! But they are all necessary for the proper functioning of the body. Hence, Joel Osteen may be the A-hole of the Christian body, stinky and brown… but necessary to reach a few thousand unbelievers who otherwise would not have gone to any church at all, but find comfort and uplifting words for their healing hearts. Whenever a loved one dies, or a beloved pet, I find myself watching Christian programming at 3 am in order to finally fall asleep due to a hurting heart and brain 😢. Whether those 3am pastors with a low tv budget proclaim the pure gospel or explain miraculous stories, or talk about the second coming or the rapture, etc. it doesn’t matter to me; at that point I just want to hear that God YHWH lives and knows that we are hurting but will somehow help us to get through our grief like we’ve done so many times before, and hearing his promises is encouraging. It is not always good in the light of a very unhealthy insurance society that we rely completely on that. And it can really help. So for those who can have a health savings account any or even just start a savings account for those health issues that might arise. I was raised catholic... about 21 years ago I was delivered from that. There is such emphasis placed on Mary. Even that she is a"co-redeemer"with Christ, and the angel said Hail and that she was full of grace. That greeting would have been common then, and certainly there was grace, but Mary herself knew she needed a savior. She also had children after Jesus. She was a married woman being fruitful as God said in the garden. There is such great deception in the whole subject of Mary.

CCC 491 Protestants and Catholics may disagree on the Immaculate Conception but we are definitely in agreement that the grace Mary was full of was wholly from God and not of herself. We agree that she was favored by God and the favor he blessed her with is what is so special about her. She is a humble servant of the Lord and an example for every Christian to also say "Behold, I am a servant of the Lord. Be it unto me according to His will." I am so glad you took out the time to speak on and critique this movie, Allie Beth. Movies such as this when poorly made, end up causing more confusion and problems with people that won't necessarily pick up the Bible and read it for themselves (which is VERY IMPORTANT TO DO!), but instead, they tune in and watch a movie, just ASSUMING it's going to tell them the truth of what transpired in the Gospels. Ugh...Poor Mary as the servant of God has really gotten a bum rap for the last 2,000 years, and has been very misunderstood as a person and her role that the LORD God had her play while living her life in Nazareth, as a JEWISH woman, in a JEWISH neighborhood, betrothed to a JEWISH man, hoping to have many children and looking forward to her life with him. Biblically, we KNOW what happened. Some of man's traditions have gotten in the way of everything, and it has made it harder for people to know the truth from fiction when it comes to people like the Lord Jesus, Joseph, and Mary, and the way they had to live their lives out once these prophecies of the Son of God being born to man started to come to pass during Mary and Joseph's lifetime. Many people do not understand Mary's role in the Bible. She is the fulfillment of Isaiah 7:14--the LORD God CHOSE her to be the mother of His Son. In order for her to carry Him in her womb, GRACE had to be placed upon her so that her inherent sinful human self would be made "pure" so that she could carry the sinless Savior of the World. IF the LORD God did NOT do that (hence the reason why Gabriel came to her and said, "Hail Mary, FULL OF GRACE") to and for her, she would NOT have been able to carry the sinless Word of God and birth Him. Growing up as a Catholic, they did not explain well enough biblically, what Mary's role was to us. The Holy Spirit took over that for me about four years ago, when He knew I was ready to receive the truth about her, and respect her more than I ever did before (I left the CC over thirty years ago, and only went back recently to attend the TLM; I love to attend non-denom biblical churches and messianic congregations as well). I heard of this movie, but had no idea Joel was behind it. There would be no reason to have all these so called "theological" and unbiblical "experts" like Muslims, Mormons, etc. having any say whatsoever in a movie about Mary, Jesus, etc. to begin with. Both of those are cults anyway, and there was no such person as a "Muslim" back then. There were those who definitely prayed to the demonic entity "Allah", but again, it was 600 years later when Mohammed came on the scene, with his false claims of Gabriel meeting up with him, etc. Anyone who knows the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word, and has a solid relationship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit dwelling within them, will know when a movie such as this is not worth watching after a few minutes or so of it being on. The Holy Spirit will usually let us know not to even waste our time, especially since (and sorry, no offense, but...) it has a connection with Joel Osteen.

Even with the “wrong” of this movie…this is still better than most of the trash available to viewers. Hopefully it will get secular people to take a look at the roots of the movie, and crack open a bible. Let the Holy Spirit move and see what happens. As a Catholic, I can tell you, Jesus is the one mediator, always and forever. “Through Him, with Him, and in Him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.” My favorite words to hear on Sundays.

Have you seen The Nativity???? My favorite Christmas movie for the past 10 years or so. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! It is not perfect, but pretty close and gives beautiful visuals of SO MANY biblical accounts; like Zechariah's angelic encounter, Elizabeth's joy, Mary's youth and betrothal and her and Joseph's angelic dreams and all the travel and portrayals of Harrod and his household. The visuals of the "wise men" are stunning although they may be problematic to sticklers as there is some biblical story there, but may not be accurate to scholars. An overall stunning movie. Just love how Joseph is portrayed. Check it out.

The Communion of Saints is not possible by our power, or the power of the saints, it is possible because of the Will of God. Asking the saints to pray with us, and for us, is no different than asking friends and loved ones to pray with us, and for us, except they are not distracted, and tempted, by the stress and evil of this world. They are face to face with Jesus. I urge you go read Revelation. The prayers of the saints are poured onto the alter as incense. Mary is described as Queen of Heaven. She said her soul magnifies the Lord, she points us to her Son, and teaches us how to follow Him. She asked Jesus to perform His first miracle at the wedding of Cana. On the Cross, Jesus said “Behold your mother.” He wasn’t only asking John to take care of His mother, but everything Jesus said, while dying on the cross, was for all humanity, for all time. When you ask your friends and family to pray for you, they are mediating for you. When we ask the Saints, and especially Mary, they are mediating for us in the same way, but they’ve already been cleansed of their sins, and don’t have all the distractions of this world.

I will never condone murder and yet it’s interesting to see the way established, higher-than-average-income commentators talk about this, as if what the culprit did was unique. Insurance companies also walk past thousands of people as they die, and deny people who have been working and paying into that system for years, and profit from that denial. They celebrate with the riches they make from that model. And most of the richer conservative commentators are no longer in touch with what it feels like to watch that, to watch people go bankrupt while sick, for a denial to change someone’s life, or contribute to the end of it. The thousands of people wronged by insurance is the footnote instead of the story. The story that established media commentators are most appalled by is ultimately about when the elite suffer. (Which again, I do not approve of.)

Whoa this review of the Netflix film, Mary. I’m glad you put Bree on for a more informed review. First, I’m not sure if you have ever viewed or attended a service at Lakewood Church, where Joel Osteen pastors. He very much believes in repentance and has an alter call at the end of preaching. They regularly take communion and do baptisms as well. Second, at no point did I even remotely see Mary being portrayed as a feminist! Example, the character was heartbroken to think how her situation and obedience would look to others and bring shame to her father. Feminist do not give a hoot about men’s feelings or respect them . Third, Mary is the only woman mentioned in the Quran at least 70 times, and in the Bible 54 times. So glad Bree brought up The Chosen there were many things, not specifically from the Bible in that series, artistic license. However, it’s been so popular. It has sparked several conversations where I was able to teach with the Bible really does say. In the book of Daniel it says the wise will instruct many. aren’t you glad films referring to the Bible are becoming more popular? Especially considering there are so many films that are so immoral and/or violent available to see. The information about Mary’s parents comes from the book called the Proto Evangelion of James, suspected to be written by James, the brother of Jesus, but not canonized. So the film producer did not just make it up. But for those who might want Mary (Netflix) or The Chosen to be biblically accurate in detail they are not. It has been Hollywood’s tradition to study the furniture, the history, the people, etc. of a proposed film, so that’s what they did. It might do as well to consider that by consulting different authorities, Caruso and Hayes from Hollywood, thought they were giving a more clear perspective, much like Matthew, Mark and Luke recounting the same events to us from their viewpoint. Joseph had a lot of family in Bethlehem, but Jesus was to be born at the place where they raised the sacrificial lambs for the temple in Bethlehem (Beitlehem) means “house of bread.” The Last Supper was the first communion. He is the bread of life. Of course Jesus was Jewish. The first mention of love in the Bible is where Abraham agreed to offer up his son so the blood covenant could happen, so Jesus would come Genesis 22:8. My son God will provide for himself a lamb. Also consider Abraham is the father of three of the main religions on earth: Islam, Judaism and Christianity. For any who want to know, I am on team. Poor people get the best insurance. My daughter was on Medicaid for a little while and she had Cadillac insurance it covered everything. I on the other hand am lower middle class and chose to let a broken finger heal on its own because I cannot afford my deductible.
