Pro tips: Wake up earlier than reveille. If you can keep a watch somewhere with an alarm, set it 15 min before. A guy in my flight bought a cheesy digital watch that played “Yellow Rose of Texas.” Spend the time getting dressed, making your bed, and I guess, fill your canteen. You are now ready to head out for breakfast. When at attention or parade rest: DO NOT LOCk YOUR KNEES. If you pass out, you’ll fall face first or straight back. Learn to stand with your knees slightly bent. If you do pass out, the knees will fold and you’ll go down vertically. Make it a lifelong habit and you won’t need to replace your knees and hips when you hit 60. On Sundays, go to church. It’s like a mini-vacation away from the dorm and other stressors. Learn from your mistakes and don’t repeat the same mistake twice. Always have a pen with either blue or black ink. Always have a 341 filled in and ready to be pulled (in my day, we had to have 3 in our left breast pocket). Finally, remember that you are there to learn the Air Force way of life. You made the best decision to join the Air Force. Once you finish tech school, you’ll be in the big, blue Air Force. Regardless of where you’re sent, whether it’s an ACC base in Germany or some bare base in the middle of nowhere, your life will be far better than if you had joined one of our sister services. Good luck, Godspeed, and Aim High.

"When at attention or parade rest: DO NOT LOCk YOUR KNEES." Maybe it's country/culture differences... But in SG, not locking your knee can get you FK'd... As at times, they (DI) can randomly test such loose knee by knee'ing your legs from the back.

I graduated in December 2021. We didn’t do anything on Sunday. Our MTI only checked in on us one time the entire day. I spent my time studying, folding clothes, and getting to know people better. It was soooo good to catch a break. They also let us make BX runs during the weekend. We always stocked up on cough drops lol

I’ve enjoyed the videos. Graduated BMT in 1987, and it’s very interesting to see how much has changed, and what hasn’t. On weekends we had opportunities to visit what was called the Chapparel where we could listen to music, get pizza, and just hang out with friends. We also had a break area below the bays where there were pay phones and snack machines. Yeah, no cell phones back then, and making calls home wasn’t a guarantee. Good luck Airmen!

I graduated in 1992, the only difference between Sunday and any other day was going to Chapel. IF you went to Chapel, you would face the ire of the flight when you returned because they were stripping and waxing floors while you were away. Not happy. We didn't do PT because we were doing a deep clean. No long showers because the latrine queen would have been super pissed.

Amazing on the church services. They just had two in the 1970's, Catholic and what they just called Protestant, which was probably closest to Baptist I would say. That was it. We had no cool PT gear and always did PT and ran in combat boots. There were no tennis shoes. Also black leather boots, so on weekends, we all spent a long time polishing them.

So apparently, when I went to Lackland in Jan-Feb 1978, it was a six week spa vacation! I don't remember anything like what I've seen in these videos! Yes, the first week was a bit hectic, but it settled down after and was a breeze. Our A-hole TI disappeared after the third day, leaving us with the "nice guy" TI and as series of TI trainees. And we made Honor Flight as well.

youtube will share a video less with a lower percentage of video watched. By having someone watch 100% of the video, youtube will reward the video more than someone watching 95% of the video because the last 10-15 seconds is us "wrapping up" the video and people click on another video. So that's the reason for doing videos like this now. If we want to continue doing this as a job, we have to adapt to KZbins rules to help promote our videos. Hope you can understand that! Thank you!

Like the little cute nylon shorts and tennis shoes. When I was there you had boots and fatigues. You ran in them you did pushups in them and then you went on laundry detail and you washed them.
