For anyone reading this, if you have a dream but you're worried that you might not have that security or that stability if you chase that dream and it fails, forget about all that shit. Bite the bullet and leave everything behind, chase that dream. That security, that office job and that normal life isn't going to save you in the end. Nobody makes it out of this alive, we all die. Make this life a good one and if you fail, fuck it, you tried. And that's more than most people can say. If you fail, you won't regret trying and if you succeed, your dreams become reality.

I tell my friends everytime we have a few drinks and we open up to each other, to always appreciate what they have. I grew up in 4 different foster homes before I was 16. Mother a drug addict, father in jail. I had to figure a lot of shit out for myself. When I see kids freaking out at their mother or father over something trivial, it always bothers me. What I see, is a caring parent. A roof over their heads. Food in their stomach. Unconditional love. I envy that. I don't know what it's like to love a parent, but I know those who haven't had that opportunity wish that they had. As the old saying goes, "You don't know what you have until you lose it". Trust me, you don't want to lose it to know what you had. There's a lot of things I wish I had, but I wouldn't be the guy I am today if I did. Struggle produces some of the most strong characteristics in a person. You either learn the hard way, or you don't learn at all. Much love Uncle Joey!

Joey's incredibly quotable in the most unexpected moments, because he will say it so passively. Ex. "They didn't want to sacrifice the most important things for the most important thing". It's so true: You have to be willing to give up everything you have, to get everything you want.

i dont normally disagree with Joey but yeah i have to here. I am a millanial (born in the 90s) im currently studying full time engineering degree at university and i work 38hours a week in a warehouse. Im not special in this either i personally know atleast a 100 other people my age in this same situation. Our generation has no social life if we want to make it in life. We never had the luxury of having an outdoorsy childhood like people of Joeys era. Im not saying we have the toughest generation as that would easily go to the wwi/wwii crowd who went through hell. what i am saying is that we millanials get thrown under the bus by delusional baby boomers who really had the easiest swing through life out of all the other generations of the 20th century.

Joey said it amazes him that people think they're going to get ahead without sacrifice. That's not the same as saying sacrifice automatically = good results. I understand your point though - there are aspects to being a young adult which are much more difficult than what Joey's generation went through.
@Meow_Ag476 жыл бұрын
I agree with Joey here to an extent There are a lot of kids today that have no idea what sacrifice is. I was born in the 90s and there are quite a few people that I know with 25-30-40k in student loan debt (entitled little shits who party/have fun every weekend/and act like people owe them for their poor decision making). Then on the other end of the spectrum you've got those with parents that essentially pay for everything! For example, I have a friend who went to Norte Dame University (4yrs tuition and dorms) thats easily near 200k. And this chick just finished a 1yr masters degree at some university in Washington DC another 100k easily. Her parents are loaded she's 24-25 now has never worked a day in her life!! On the other hand there are people like you and I; working full-time while study at university full-time (often more than full time because 18-units cost the same as 12-units so might theoretically be cheaper). For the past 8 years I've woken up at 5-6am five days per-week, worked every weekend (because would always need at least 2 weekdays off). This May I graduated with a masters degree, zero debt, zero student loans, and A LOT of sacrifice. There are quite a few kids putting in the blood/sweat/tears as well. Two of my closest friends are in the same boat. Just finished their BA degrees and have no debt! The majority, I feel don't know what sacrifice is!

@tundrabear017 жыл бұрын
Diaz, your not talking about sacrifice your speaking self discipline. You sacrificed nothing other than your daughter for your personal gain and her pain. Sorry Chico, that isn't a sacrifice. You did something to better yourself at the expense of her losing her father because he couldn't man up and face the problem and do what needed to be done. Sacrifice is to put yourself in front to the betterment of others. Having to be away from your kids over Christmas to pay the mortgage so your family isn't homeless, not eating for a day or 2 so your kids can eat and have lunch, that is sacrifice. Passing up a party to do some comedy shit isn't sacrifice. Yours is a criminal mind. Your thinking is that doing something like, "if I do this right thing, I sacrificed". Nah man, you did shit. Sacrifice is your pain for others happiness.

@s4mp_founder4 жыл бұрын
Its not just work you sacrifice in order to become whom you really seek to be in life. This also falls in line with relationship, career, family, hobbies, social life, etc. All areas depending the individual can be sacrificed to gear a person to the bigger picture. And many of those obstacles or sacrifices are namely the things we as a people most have issues with starting out since our early childhood.

I need help with this. I sacrificed from 18yrs old to 24 yrs old. I worked at a construction warehouse my whole college career and went to school full-time. Studied on the weekends and when I had some time. Sacrificed a lot of time with friends and family and activities on myself. Now I am 25 yrs old and in the bummer, I have Saturdays and Sundays off. I have gotten lazier, I dont feel like doing anything and I am on the verge of losing my job. I feel like crap and dont feel like doing anything . I have even picked up on drinking everyday. I am so lost and dont know what to do. I do work out every other day and do dumbbells other than that just youtube, booze, t.v. video games and lazy.
@Lishkabro5 жыл бұрын
Rants/Tips you’re not alone man , I spent my early 20s doing construction work , I’m now a journeyman carpenter , but I’m not entirely sure I want to continue doing this as it’s difficult to make easy money, but you can make hard money , good money , but you have to bust your ass . There is no salary. So yea , life is full of twists and turns and that Instagram , family wealth we see being passed down to kids , you can’t compete with that, in the long run our struggle will improve our lives .

restrict youtube to bare minimum (only subscribe to things that are useful and maybe few stupid/funny videos like pranks and ultimate fails) but bear in mind that youtube is like a drug/sugar, it's addictive and once you start watching you'll find yourself at 1am still watching the videos so don't really spend that much time on it. Lay off the video games. I played a shit ton of video games when I was 8 up to about 17 and even though I have some really good childhood memories of those games and times I would do absolutely anything to go back and try again in football and training because video games are cool but having a healthy sports life is way better and who knows maybe you can make it in pros. Lay off the booze and drink it occasionally if there is some special moment and try to develop a strong mentality.

I was a three time cancer survivor before I graduated high school. I never really had a high school experience and I never really had a college experience. During my first journey with cancer I lost 60 ibs and felt on top of the world. I thought I was in love but it was fake nice bs. You deal with that being a cancer patient. People always tell you kind words online but when it comes to reciprocating that in person the actions don't meet the words they expressed. My ego was distraught I never trusted my self having that much ego and confidence. I was mad and angry at the world so I started smoking and drinking and I tormented that poor girl. The weed and the booze made me paranoid. I was always anxious it just amplified all those emotions for me. After my second relapse with cancer I finally decided to get sober. I'm six years sober because every time I would continue to smoke weed after chemo I always relapsed. Wither it was bad juju or whatever I finally gave up weed and booze. ten years later I'm finally deciding to get my shit together and become healthier. My goal is to live out to see my retirement and have kids and family. Keep chasing that dream. I honestly believe that everything is inspiration people who say they are wasting time in life aren't looking at time as an growth opportunity even if your on the couch. Keep up your drive and always use your initial ideals to guide you through your storm. Keep Fighting!

I think his opinion on what sacrifice is, is pretty far off.. justifying being a dead beat dad as 'sacrifice', or being a selfish coke head and missing weddings is not a sacrifice. If he sacrificed being a comedian to be a father, working a dead end job to make sure she has everything that's sacrifice. Love Joey, but I think he's trying to justifying his mistakes with the word 'sacrifice'

I love Joey, but he hangs out with people like Lee, Redban, Iliza, Schaub, Ari, and Bert.....not a fucking work ethic between those guys. Plenty of people in the real world are hustling for that envelope everyday, but dont get your world view from the green room of the Comedy Store. The fact remains that MOST people will never know what sacrifice is until they have a child of their own....until then, they can go from state to state and job to job without worrying about much. Joey has sacrificed, and he knows that is the key. Joey DOES have a good work ethic (the best in Deathsquad probably) and he's trying to help Lee so that Lee doesnt find this shit out at 45 like Joey did. We give the advice we most needed ourselves....and Joey is no different. The advice he gives to Lee (that Lee has refused to follow for years now) IS good advice. You can get away with Lizard Meat, blackjack losses, and a controlling unemployed girlfriend when you are in your 20s.....BUT....if you DONT put up with that, you will have a much better foundation to build your Church upon. Redban could be a millionaire by now if he would have just kept his eye on the prize....instead, the guy has lost ground, gained weight, and lives with a mail order bride. Imagine Lee's life off of the Church gravy train.....hard to pay for the LA/Vegas lifestyle when you're being paid for YOUR wit instead of Joey Diaz'.

I forgot to add Duncan and Esther Ku to the list. Hey, I dig Bert, Ari, and Duncan...but these arent the "go getters" that wake up with their dicks hard looking for an envelope. Ari is LAZY....by his definition and those of his friends. He is currently not working or answering phone calls for the 3rd month in a row. Duncan has never put out a special. Ever. You cant name your favorite Duncan bit unless you've seen him live. The guy is unemployed more than your lazy cousin. Bert has 2 fucking kids and he spends most of his time on the road, doing Reality TV, or drinking out in his Man Cave. Besides Joey, there isnt a single Deathsquad type whose podcasts have INCREASED since they got the JRE bump. MAYBE 1 a week from these guys. If you arent outworking somebody in a Mcdonald's drive thru....you dont get to talk about work ethic. Dont confuse "success" with "work ethic". If you were to take two medium comics and have one do the open-mic at Chuckle Hut and the other does 3 hours on JRE....which one is going to sell 5k t shirts the next day? That has NOTHING to do with work ethic. Talking in front of a mic is work....writing comedy isnt easy....but just shitcasting your thoughts while drinking with your friends? It's so easy, Lee can do it on 2k mg of THC. Not exactly the salt mines, comrade cocksucka.

I don't like Schaub, but the guy has two podcasts and an HBO show ik the works. He's definitely putting in the work to get where he is. Ari has albums and specials as well as an established show on comedy central. I don't know what him leaving the country and living his life disconnected from the rest of the world takes away from the work that he does when he is working. As far as Bert goes, you contradicted yourself about Bert. You just said he spends most of his time on the road DOING SHOWS or taping reality TV which is also WORK. I honestly don't understand what point you're trying to make with those three. I don't care what you say about the other people, I didn't bring them up...you decided to go on a Duncan rant yourself. I don't even consider Duncan a comedian he's a Podcaster that used to do comedy. I also don't know why you're complaining about the number of podcasts they put out on a weekly basis. You ever stop to think that they don't release more because they're WORKING so they can't record more? I'm sure fighter and the kid has numbers comparable to JRE and I'm sure Berts podcast is fine as well. Just because they don't record an episode on a daily basis doesn't mean they aren't working. That's just a silly thing to say.

Actually Esther Ku turned a MTV gig into a money making standup career quickly at a young age normally takes 15 plus years for them to make decent money. She has to deal with not developing as a comic for jumping a head so fast.

Again...you guys are confusing "success" with "hard work". Rogan FILLS up a day, but his labor consists of hiking up snowy hills and lifting up heavy objects or rolling with black belts. That isnt "hard work", although it certainly would be if those were his jobs and he showed up to them 40 hours a fucking week. His job where he made money consisted of describing fights (a job he initially did for no pay after flying out on his own dime) or feeding cockroaches to coeds. THAT isnt hard work. THAT is how Rogan got huge. Rogan being huge is what made the rest of them register on everybody's radar. "I made a million dollars because I designed an app that sorts your hats by color" IS NOT the kind of "hustling" that The Church of What's Happening Now is talking about. There is no "ballsack" needed for app design, there is no sacrifice to getting syndication checks for reality shows. Schaub DEFINITELY makes A TON more money by selling shirts to you momos than he did for getting brain damage from fighting the best fighters in the world. WHICH ONE WAS HARDER WORK? You people dont even know what it means....and that is why Joey is right. Podcasting is a way of making money....but are you really going to call it "hard work"? Like I said...if Lee can do it on 2k MGs of THC, it cant be that taking mentally or physically CAN IT??? "b-b-but he's making money, so it's work"......what the fuck ever.

there have always been people that were born with silver spoon and the rest of the people that had to make sacrifices, and from the stories joe has told it honestly sounds a lot like he had silver spoon in the ass too, i dont think he understands the pressures poor kids get thru at all, sorry to say you are wrong this time joe. you were born in the 5% richest familys in the world and lived selfish addict life
@ExploitMage7 жыл бұрын
no joke i simply cant disagree... just bcuz, joey has from the sounds of it, lived as a substance-abuser in functional society since he was age 12.. or 11.. Not sure. The age he began smoking weed and doing PCP weekly... but over time, he seems to think Xanax + high dose cannabis is being ''clean'' unlike if he does cocaine, he only considers being not-clean if someone/he's doing Heroin / Coke, pills and shit basically he looks at like harmless.... He definitely could use a reality check purely regarding daily life on drugs.... even if weed is percieved to do nothing via 40 years tolerance immunity, and seems as though it only has a very mild effect, its still not being clean from drugs even on its own....

So what dude. I guess I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth in the 2nd safest country on earth. Still tried to off myself at 12, 16 and 21. I was pretty much suicidal from 12-21. I was always rich and safe and yet, my life was a torture. I am highly intelligent to the point where I got special treatment in school (skipping classes) and everything. I was fluent in English at the highest level at 16 (I am German) and all for what man. I am unhappy and bored with life.

You're right, I love Joey when he rants about things on JRE, but he tries to give too much advice to young people as if he is a great example.

Jim Lahey I absolutely love Joey to hahaha I just know he would bust his own balls of he heard himself. It's all love and I know he means well with his advice.

I think you're probably discrediting how much of a powerful motivator it can be to see you're life falling to pieces right before your eyes. There's a good chance Joey's gone through that.
@SlugDropsonheads7 жыл бұрын
David I absolutely agree, I could be discrediting him in the exact way he is discrediting young hard-working men who probably didn't need to rob and steal to learn a lesson such as that. Again, nothing personal, just thought it was a funny assumption on his part.
@jre49077 жыл бұрын
Its easy for people who have not put themselfs through hell to get them out to critise people who have as if they have they understand the mindset change , what you leave behind , what you have to let go and make your life better id say its alot harder as everyone is judging you over the past

It's great that Joey's writing and all, but his standup is trash. He's a great storyteller. That stuff is hilarious, but as comedian he's not worth a damn.

Says the guy that kidnapped somebody, I know that isn't going to go down well with DeathsquadForLife morons, but if Joey Diaz is your moral compass you are a danger to everyone around you. He might be funny but he is also a terrible human being who is also massively overweight, breathes heavily if he has to adjust a nut and sweats if he's forced to speak, so forgive me if I don't live by his life standards.
