I think the key is actually understanding that breakups hurt, understanding that it's normal, and it's ok. I'm 4 months after the biggest heartbreake of my life, and a lot of the problem was about me wanting to prove some point, to be 'better' or 'stronger', everyone was telling me to forget, to cut off the past. But I'm still thinking about that person every day, it still hurts, but a lot less. I'm finding out there's hope, I can be happy, even by myself. It's okey to miss someone, to think about them, it's okey to go through photos and think of nice moments, as long as you understand, and truly belive, that it's going to be all right. It will hurt, but time really fixes a lot, just be patient.

'You deserve better' is such a hurting statement really. It makes us question our own decisions and makes us feel that we might never be able to know who's the right person for us! I loved this video so much. Every sentence you said is so meaningful and comforting to hear. Please make more conversation videos! You're such a great conversationalist!❤️

I also don't understand the statement - Somebody told me about a girl I lost but still love (and that's why I couldn't accept her friend offer) that I could do better than her. She was a great person and I don't know what they mean by better - Better looking? money? person? There are many women out there but there will only be one of her. I may end up dating somebody different, but they won't be better - Just a new person and experience.

the advice that i'd probly give someone going through a breakup is to try to look for the good in the now, take care of themselves and to stop looking for advice in others (as contradicting as that is to this). any of your friends could tell you that you'll be okay and that it just takes time, but it means nothing until you realize that yourself. there's going to be days were you feel like absolute garbage, and then there'll be days when you think; shit, i'm okay. if you're a friend of the person going through the breakup i'd just be there for them, check on them, remind them of the people they still have and the good in life, and be there for when they need either someone to talk to, or jusr a good distraction. this comment might not make much sense but i'd still like to put it out there.

i really needed this video. you basically put into a 14 minute video what ran through my mind the last couple months. i just got out of a relationship of nearly 6 years and was so lost with myself because i was invested on living and changing for the other person. and when i lost her thats when i lost my direction in life. i was blessed to have my friend group because they aren't like other friends. they tell me what i need to know and not what i want to hear. they put me on a direction for self growth instead of selfishly trying to replace the missing void. ngl i have fun talking and meeting other girls but i know that i still have more to invest in myself first before i can coexist with someone else again. i know that if i just hop into a relationship without taking my time then someone gets hurt and i repeat the cycle. its all in the process of growing i guess. either way, this video is exactly what i was scared to accept about my relationship and myself and it really helped with my healing process.

Just got out of a 2 year relationship, and I have been feeling devastated for about 4 months now and your video really helped me a lot. Our relationship went horribly nearing the end of it because she wanted a lot of attention and so she wanted to devote too much of herself to me too early when we're still too busy with our daily life and job. I couldn't handle her overwhelming love as I was too busy but I still loved her. I'm heartbroken because she found someone new after just 4 months of breaking up but it's fine, I've got to learn to love myself first and figure out who I am first instead of putting all my feelings for my partner.

This is meaningful. It's been almost two months ever since my first girlfriend broke up with me and, it reset me to fabric mode. We study at the same boarding and that doesn't make it easier. We are close to graduating and start new lives in less then a month and, I still miss her even though I see her daily. But indeed, I was living for her rather than living for me. I became too dependent, more than what she ever felt with me. I don't feel anything whatsoever now, I spend my time mostly studying for finals. I am 19, and, sure, there is plenty of life ahead. Just feels like the closest person in the world became a stranger from one day to another. Let's see what the future awaits. Maybe it was destiny, but feels like perfect timing for this video to be upload and me seeing it today.

@@surbhisharma8674 It's crazy to look back at this, I even forgot that I wrote it in the first place. As an update, I have done plenty of progress ever since. I have became someone with whom I am feeling happier to be as rather than the person who wrote this a year ago. I have decided to pursue my dreams and that makes me proud of myself. I have taken decisions that at first I thought were "childish", such as erasing her from my social media. However, once I did it, I finally felt that I was able to breath without complications. At the end of the day, you must do what feels right to you. I no longer talk to her and that is alright. You aren't forced to be friends with your ex after a breakup. Sometimes I remember her. It's inevitable, she was my first girlfriend. However, I remember the experience from the good moments, at least there were some good memories. I switched my mindset from "Without you I couldn't live" to "Without you I could live great as well" and from "Let it be for forever" to "It will last as long as it takes". My apologies if I went too long with the answer. Nevertheless, change is the only constant. Sometimes you do it alone and sometimes next to someone else. @Surbhi, thanks for the follow-up. It was a nice feeling to realize about the long distance I have walked since the beginning of this journey. I wish you the best if you are undergoing something similar. Time is always the best ally and the best healer. And hey, if you need someone to talk to, I am here...Life is a bitch but that doesn't mean you are gonna let it make you its bitch.

So I don’t know about everyone else but I struggle when the word love is brought up. Love to me is something sacred, important, reserved for a person who you’d tell anything to, do anything with, etc. But my thing is every relationship I’ve been in whenever the guy has said “I love you” it doesn’t feel right. In one it felt manipulative, the other it felt too fast, and the last when he said it ik I didn’t feel the same. Now, because of my experiences, and stuff I feel like I just don’t even like the word anymore. I use it with family but when it comes from anyone else the little voice in my head is questioning the motive behind them telling me they love me. Which maybe that’s fine. To take a moment to really think why they say I love you but idk ig I’m wondering how you guys feel about the topic and the word “love”?

Very insightful! I'm currently experiencing a loved one jumping into a relationship with the wrong person, they've changed themselves dramatically almost overnight it seems. It's hard to watch, I've tried voicing concerns but it's somewhat of a lost cause. I feel I may lose this person over this, but I have to accept that it's beyond my control and prioritize my inner peace. Modern dating culture has a very selfish tone. Far too many people are seeking attention, validation, an ego boost, etc. at the expense of others' feelings. I wish we would all be more mindful and date with clear intentions 😊

Joey, I think a lot of people undervalue self-development and instead look for someone else to complete them. They tend to abdicate responsibility of self in their pursuit for love. We often forget that we determine what gives our lives meaning and purpose. And it’s never a good idea to place the weight of our worth on being with someone. It’s empowering when we are able to fill our on cup; when we do it for us. 💖

Thank you! 🙏 Ive been through a breakup this winter. We met when were around 18, now beginning of our 30's. So much change during those years! So I think its hard for me to remember who I am deep down without the relationship. It will be a big self discovery journey!

Resonates I am living for me. I am 2 almost 3 months out of a relationship that I was over months before. I recently met someone new and I instantly told her about my ex not because I am not over it because my ex is crazy she has contacted multiple people since our breakup and spread lies about me. I only mentioned my ex once to my friend as we are not dating. She said she understood. I just wanted to explain it first before spending time with her more and then her suddenly getting a message from a stranger. Looking back my friends and family said I changed for my ex. That was a mistake. I need self love and to focus on myself while having someone else in my life that can COMPLIMENT me not CHANGE me. My goal is not to break and anyones heart but to take things slow just mingle. If things happen it happens. However I will proceed slow as far as moving in etc. I also do not believe in ever taking exs back. People do NOT change. They came into your life for a reason and for that reason only.

Thank you so much! I hope that I can someday in the near future, close the chapter of my last break up.. she left me and there is no anger, just sadness, that there was no second chance.. In the end I know deep in my heart, that there might have been a billion second chances but I have been blind.. At the time were I realized that somethings wrong, it was already to late and beyond repair.. Now getting up again seems like the hardest thing.. So often I am dreaming the dream of getting back together, but wake up to being alone.. I want to take your advice and really try to focus on myself and my own well-being. Thank you for these kind and vulnerable words. This really helps in dark times like these right now. Take my subscription:)

I fell in love with my best friend and then I lost myself in them. She broke up with me in the beginning of the year and it’s been so incredibly hard. We have known each other for 16 years and dated for 5. We also haven’t seen each other for almost 2 years. Yes we were long distance she was in NZ while I was back home where we grew up.

I like this format! Was already thinking about commenting how I liked it even before I saw the end of the video. subbed! I'm currently near the end of the stages of a break-up, it was tough but I'm actually thankful that it happened. I was stubborn and I have friends told me that I was living for my partner, and I didn't listen. Only at the end I understood what they meant. Don't stop being you. Thanks for the video Joey!

especially the last part, thinking about what you want to do and finding the person to share those activities with was eye-opening for me. At least the way you put it made me realize that I do think too early about all those big plans and kinda lose myself while loving the person so much. it's just so difficult to control oneself in these early stages when one's brain is mainly emotionally active..

I thought I was the only one that felt the same way about relationships. I never dated anyone growing up in grade school. Even tho some of my friends did. I'm super glad I wasn't like that back then. I think I gave myself time to get to know me better. I know I don't ever want kids, but (especially lately) I've always wanted a best friend to trust & share my deepest secrets w/. I'm scared to start dating & have shard some stuff thinking they might "be the one". To find that our relationship didn't last. Idk if it would work out this way but I hope I can just meet that "one" person w/ out having to date other people first.

Just went through my first break up after being together for 6 years and I was a wreck. The break up was mutual and on good terms, but it didn't make it any less painful because we still loved each other and were best friends, we just grew apart and were incompatible at this stage of life. But the WORST things people have said to me are "You deserve better", "I never understood why you were with him", "You'll find someone better", "At least you'll be skinny!"(because I was sick to my stomache over the break up for a month), "You have that post break-up glow!". All from people who never even met my ex. They mean well but it just was NOT what I needed to hear. To tell someone they deserve better or that their ex didn't deserve them is, I'm sure, helpful if you're spiteful and hate your ex. But when you shared a loving and great 6 YEARS together, hearing people put down your ex feels like a personal attack. Not to mention it's just extremely shallow and immature, because everyone deserves love and nobody knows what's truly at the core of another person's relationship. To say someone's ex was not good enough for them is just a very shallow view. It's okay to say that a person isn't right for you. But it's entirely different to put down another person simply because the relationship ended. When you have a deeply committed relationship with someone and love them unconditionally, that person becomes like family, or even almost like an extension of you. And to hear other people tell you that they weren't good enough is an insult to everyone involved. I don't know, maybe those types of people just don't love deeply or have a shallow world veiw, and they mean well, but what they say is really shitty.

i just went through the "omg i think this is the person for me" last month. I went and told all my girlfriends, and one month later, I found out he had a gf. and its disappointing because you had such high hopes for it to work out, and i started creating scenarios in my head, and now to see them walk out of my life, i have to tell my friends that it didnt work. It sucks a lot, but he did impact my life and im glad I was able to meet him. I do wish things didnt go like this, but it is life.

I really needed this, and I have a mind to share. Do not be with someone if you are not 100 percent you. Dont make yourself 80 and this person 20 percent. No. If you feel like a hundred percent, then go and enjoy. And it is totally normal, if you meet someone you drop these 100 to 90 or 80 or whatever. But please, dont stop being you. get this back to a hundred, otherwise it hurts so much more. Peace.

Nice video ! Loved the pencil effect on the corner I would like to add something it’s okay to wait what is considered a « long time » before you date again because it’s better to grieve and heal from the breakup before you start something new and sometimes it takes a few weeks, a few months and somethings it’s a few years to truly move on and it’s really okay to go at your own pace 🤍 there’s no rules, do what feel good for you

at first i was so inspired by what you said in this video, and than i realized that my main problem wasn't really that I am going through a break up , and honestly it is the person i wanted to spend my life with, i wanna live all the experiences im going to go through with them. but the timing made it kind of wrong the place too, the society and even if im 20 i need to grow up according to our society which is kind of complicated here, and grow up through the eyes of my parents , and i cant do that in a week, it needs alot of time , and they couldnt wait for it maybe, they couldnt live with the idea of not having all possible experiences right away, and I kind of understand that thats what it takes them to know if it is worth it or not . and I am still attached to them the idea of coming back together (knowing that we meet kind of alot for exes, we are still friends and kind of work together and study together) even tho I know it wont happen; that hope is still here somehow I so want to live my life with THAT person , spent only few months in a relationship with them and i felt like i grew up so much, I hope they felt the same way

hey joey, it's been two months since i broke up with her and last saturday i sent her a letter talking about all the love i felt you know but not about relationships and the like, just love. That took a huge weight off my back, it relieved me, everything I needed to tell her was there, absolutely everything. It's really sad to acknowledge the anger in her that I'm done, sad also not to know how she's doing and if there's been any personal growth that was something I've always tried to convey when it's all over. I agree with absolutely everything said in the video and I wanted her to watch it, but that doesn't matter. A hug from Brazil! (Sorry if something wasn't clear, the translator makes mistakes too :)

You truly have the most pure mindset about life that I’ve seen and I admire that so much. I take so much of your words into heart, and even use them as advice to my friends when they come to me with their relationship issues and at the end of the day, your words are the words that made them see what they need to do and what they deserve. Thank you so muchhh Joey for talking about these things because it's not just about the another person or breakup it's about the impact that has left on you. You're left with guilt, insecurities and too much. You just forgot your real self before that relationship/ friendship. Even friendship can hurt you too much but everyone take these things like it doesn't matter, you deserve better but something has stuck in our heart, that hole and nobody could see it except yourself so you just sit always and think about that hole and many many things crosses in our mind. Great to hear these words from you❤️. . . . . . . . . . I'm sorry if my english isn't that good:-)

I was in a 4 month relationship, still sitting here crying 2 months later. I think a big part of moving on is (and im still working on this) learning that even someone who makes me so happy doesn't really belong in a relationship with me. He was in a bad emotional state and it just didn't work out, it wasn't some big dramatic thing. Its hard to believe I can be that happy again but I'm holding on and giving it time. Life's a journey.

what really helped me move on is my tenacity to let my mind roam around the whole scenario and dynamic of the relationship. you couldnt let it all go unless theres certain realizations and learnings i extract from it. to be aware of the patterning and move beyond past those stale behaviors. and... ofcourse you need to compromise..you need to calibrate yourself in order to 'fit' or blend with someone. well... you all knew this already. internet is not replete with all myriad infos

I feel like I could sit and have coffee with you and talk for hours about so many things, thank you for what you are doing! I really enjoyed this video, I just went through a break up and so many points you made really helped! For me, I've been trying to redirect my focus to what God's will and plan is for me, and to really take care of myself and my needs and not to "give it all away" for someone as you said. I planned for 2022 to be a year where I start focusing on me and stop worrying about other people and their opinions. Then 20 days into the year was when my breakup happened, but the goal still hasn't changed, and I see it helping so much and my heart hurts less now that I'm not worrying about if I was enough for my ex or if I made a bad decision by starting a relationship. I look forward to watching more of your videos and I really like how you want feedback and responses from your watchers, it means a lot!

Im really happy yt recommended me this video at the perfect time. Im going through a terrible breakup right now. Watching this made me realize that I stopped being ME. I became exactly like him, his twin. I surrounded my life around him, I gave all my time and effort TO HIM. I laid out my whole future with him in my mind, so certain we’d stay together forever. I really believed he was “the one” for me, my soulmate. I prioritized him over my own self. And because of all that, when he left me, I felt like half of me went missing. I feel like he took a big chunk out of me, and I feel incomplete. I depended on him, I relied on him. Big mistake. But that’s the beauty of a relationship that doesn’t work out, you learn from them. It’s harsh and it makes me feel lost and confused, but i’m starting yo learn and realize my mistakes. Thank you for this video ♥️

I remember having my first boyfriend those three years I’ve been with him, then I eventually found out that he lives with his parents and doesn’t have a job. Especially realizing that he has severe insecurities. Plus, he doesn’t take things seriously all the time and I feel like I’m doing the most work in the relationship. That’s when I told him We need to let go and move on. He was sad at first, but he accepted it, and shook my hand and left. It was the most peaceful breakup I’ve ever experienced. And for him being timid, that’s not really a good partner to have. So being single for nine years, I never felt so happy because finding yourself is truly the best relationship that you’ll have. And at age 39 Working on yourself is Better than being with a person for the sake of being there. I don’t really mind being single forever, I don’t have the desire to date at all anyway. And that’s not as bad as people think it is.
